I'm sorry, I stopped listening right around the time you called the writer of the article a 'dumbass' just because he doesn't share your point of view. Ad hominems being thrown...recent join date...flurry of personal insults...if it quacks like a duck...

Also, at least four people in this thread think that you're trolling. I'm not alone in thinking that by any stretch of the imagination. Make of that what you will.
My point of view? The author [of the article] is a dumbass because just like the rest of you imbeciles

[snipped stream of 'you're wrong because you're wrong' ad hominems]

As for me being a troll, that might offend me if I actually had any respect for you or your seriously flawed point of view.
But clearly, I'm the troll here. And the four other people who agreed with me are all wrong. All hail Fox News!

Grow up, your little Internet Tough Guy [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/InternetToughGuy] shenanigans aren't impressing anyone.
You are aware that I actually do think you are a moron, based solely on your complete inability to comprehend the point of the FOX broadcast, and my subsequent commentary into the foolishness of bashing something just because that's what everyone else is doing.

[...]

You on the other hand called me a troll and joined the ranks of the "can't walk and chew gum at the same time"

[...]

So please believe me when I say that I am in no way posturing for the internet

and I would have no issue calling you a complete, straight down to the core, can barely tie your own shoes, moron, right to your face, over and over and over again.

Those are 'facts'. Argue with that.
No. I don't argue with hardcore conservatives. I'm not dragging myself down to your level just to make a point, it's not worth it.

And you've already expressed hatred for everyone on the Escapist. The writers included. We're all biased idiots in your eyes. So even if I made my point, you'd reject it because of my 'liberal bias' or whatever you people call it these days.

Go argue with someone else.

Fox scares the crap out of me with the stuff they get away with. Also, I'm pretty sure I saw somewhere that they get more viewers than any other news network in the states by quite a lot. It's unbelievable really.

Well really...Y-y-y-y-y-you are given the o-o-o-o-o-option to skip the c-c-c-c-c-controversial l-l-l-l-l-l-levels on the g-g-g-g-game if you find it o-o-o-offensive.

I have to say, I read this argument with growing amusement; the main reason being that Theapoc is clearly a troll (which is nicer then the alternative, which is a complete idiot). My reasoning for this?

TheApoc, although you do indeed raise several strong points to support your opinion that Fox News Network is more then a den of incompetent douche bags (I personally offer no opinion on this particular matter as this is not the point of my post and I am not trying to start a flamewar), you either fail, refuse, or pretend to see the point of this entire article.

theApoc said:
- FOX presented a piece about MW2.
- They asked the question if the game went to far.
- They suggested that letting children play the game where you can participate in a massacre might be bad.
- The placed almost ALL of the onus on the parent.
- The did not attack the game makers directly.

Those are facts. Argue with that.
ok, fine, this is mostly true... except that the "Fair debate" was an obvious ruse. Jon, who debated that the violence was too much for kids, and who obviously has experience with this kind of debate, simply spouts the same lines over and over again, about how violent videogames are "Without a doubt" related to violence in children; the kind of stuff that anybody with half a brain knows that ultraconservative parents love to hear. (and, if I remember correctly, you yourself have condemned such misconceptions).

Jim, on the other hand, who seems to have far less experience in this kind of debate, is again and again led into traps and interrupted by the host, whose bias opinion is clearly the same as Jon's.

If this entire charade isn't an attempt by fox to debase and devalue a piece of popular art through bias misinformation, then I'll eat my hat.

And this, my angry friend, is where the Fox News hate comes from, and why your own arguments (that everyone here is a moron who can't tie there own shoes because they fail to see that you are right because they are wrong because they haven't raised any good points to argue that you are wrong yada yada yada) are unfounded, simply because you missed the entire point! Instead of proving why this particular debate is NOT an example of underhanded, intentionally misinformed slander (which Fox seems to have developed quite a reputation for), you throw insults around to support your obviously circular logic.

Because your level of speech (as in you don't sound stupid) and your apparent intellect (despite your strangely childish arguments) Combined with your constant hate filled bashing of Escapists members, I deduce that you, sir, are a troll. I believe that you entered this argument with every intention of causing a ruckus, to make as many people as angry as possible. Or your a well spoken idiot. Either way, have you ever heard of /B/?

That is all. I will respond no further to this particular thread. My intention is not to start a flame war, only to make a point through a logical informed process. Have a good day.

I find Fox taking this line a little funny because they're the network that makes and airs 24.

We've seen Jack Bauer and Tony Almeida do some pretty terrible stuff to achieve their ends which is basically what that level depicts, no?

That aside I didn't think that segment was *that* unfair tbh. We just got a very camera shy talking head talking our side who chose a particularly bad point to argue.

Really? Personally I always shot a witness in a criminal case, saw his head off with a hack saw and deliver it in a bag to a terrorist cell in order to get them to trust me...don't you?

Now if you excuse me I'm holding a suspect's family hostage in a country outside of Western human rights laws and I'm going to tell some other guys to pretend to execute them one by one via video link-up in front of a suspect in order to get him to talk...

I love how they talk about how the game itself portrays this mission as a bad and immoral act.

the guy from /gamer or whatever the hell is a RETARD.

why not tell the guy from CSM that the M rating on the box is there for a REASON, that there is a DISCLAIMER BEFORE THAT MISSION that flatout says that the visuals will be disturbing/offesnive and gives you to option to SKIP IT.

nah, instead, you give them the scenario and explain that you aren't actually a terrorist, just undercover and you have to kill so that your cover isn't blown... again, MORON.

what's to stop an 8 year old? um, the fucking parent? hiding the game? a ton of things actually

it's not real, playing it will not make you a terrorist and if you're stupid enough to try ANYTHING that appears in a videogame, YOU DO NOT DESERVE TO LIVE

god I hate FOX.

Does any one else think, that the so-called 'gamer' that FOX obviously hired probably didn't play the game at all?

I could easily picture the executives at FOX hiring someone, showing them footahe of the game, and then telling him to think of ways on how to defend it?

My god, are people still bitching about this?

Fox hasn't brought it up since. Why, then, do people focus on this one segment where they didn't say the game was good nor bad?

The problem with the world is no one ever wants to take responsibility for their own actions.

In my opinion though, the shit we see on the news is probably more likely to push someone over the edge than a fucking video game.

At least Fox News stays true to form by essentially ignoring the other side of the argument. And way to get the biggest blubbering idiot available to speak on behalf of millions of people. Millions of people who play video games and DON'T go out on murderous rampages afterwards, I might add.

I don't think the game went "too far". I think it's just "too real".

That was so bad for our side. He didnt mention that the ingame mission gives you the option to skip that and says it is offensive. Wait a second, Ive never heard of our spokesman. Maybe fox just made some guy from their studio do it.

Who actually caught this. I thought that no one watched fox anymore.

People think this is one sided but it wasn't.
the main problem was that Mr. Christensen was bringing up the wrong points.
Its doesn't matter if you are a terrorist or uh a a uh CIA operative, you are still murdering innocent people.
He should have brought up that the story tries to bring real issues of modern warfare into the game, one of them being terrorism, and espionage.
No one banned Rambo for turning human beings into bloody hamburger meat, so why should we condemn this game?
Violence is violence, I agree with that.
people say we have free speech until we do something that someone doesn't like.

remember this debate?

I do, its what made me want to get into gaming journalism.
