They gave Bastion exactly the same score for having a boring plot, annoying narrator and being too linear. I don't think their opinion is worth a lot.

What equates a 4/5 for one reviewer is not the same as what equates a 4/5 for another reviewer. Adam and Morgan don't do all of the reviews, but people tend to attack them because they have to give the audio for the video reviews.

2 things.

1 - IGN is notoriously unreliable, so any score that they give is really meaningless.

2 - G4 is notoriously unreliable in reviewing PS3 games. I mean, in the review for Resistance 3 the reviewers basically asked the question "does anyone even care about shooters on the PS3?" All of their professionalism went out the window with that, so I only trust them as far as I can throw them (and that ain't far).

Those 2 things having been said, I honestly think that all of the bitching about a review score is stupid. A 4 out of 5 is a GREAT score. All that the score implies is that the game is less than perfect in some regard. It does not mean that the game sucks, it does not mean that it's not worth getting, and the review in question does not imply either of those things.

Quite honestly, I would consider myself a pretty big Uncharted fanboy, uncharted 2 being one of my favorite games of all time, but I still won't begrudge anyone their opinion that a game I love is less than perfect, just like I wouldn't want anyone scrutinizing me when I say something along the lines of "I do not enjoy the final fantasy games."

i dont think perfect score should be handed out so easy. The games has to be entertaining and amazing in all fields it goes in (Arkahm City). Now i know theres the issue of personal preference, but preference isn't a critique.

And personally i think the whole series is over rated because it's a fucking boring game!

Eurogamer also gave the game 8/10 [http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-10-21-uncharted-3-drakes-deception-review], similar uproar ensues. No wonder games reviewing is in such a mess.

Numerical scores are absolutely meaningless. The sooner the public realizes that the sooner we can have better and more complete reviews and less arbitrary afterthoughts tacked onto an equally arbitrary number.

But then people would have to read words, and words are confusing and long and stuff.

And you wouldn't be able to say that my 8.8 game is better than your 8.7 game (even though it's functionally impossible to justify the difference between any two close points on scale longer than 10 points anyway, and so any site/publication which attempts to use one is clearly just making shit up)

Morons make me giggle.

I look at reviews as exactly what they are...opinions, a certain site giving a perfect score means someone there thought the game they were playing was really good! Doesn't mean anyone else on the planet has to feel the same at all. I liked Killzone 2 a lot, would I say it's perfect? No. Do I get mad because someone thinks it's better than I do? definitely not.

Sometimes I don't understand other opinons or even think that praise/criticism can be undeserved but at the end of the day they're all opinions that don't effect me personally, I don't play COD anymore, I think they're boring games. But when someone like my brother says "Oh but I think it's really good and there's a lot of fun to be had" etc I don't bite his head off about the review, I just think he wants different things from a game that I do.

Don't take reviews personally, don't get riled up at high or low scores, just try the game, if you like it great, if you don't like it oh well there's plenty more out there.

Ahhh, this reminds me of CliffyB whining about Gears 3 getting an 8/10, or should I say "hate out of 10?" Cliffy is truly a big baby.
This is just nonsense, it's not even a bad score and reviews are made up of a lot more than the number at the end. Also if you're in ANY kind of creative medium be it music, art, dance, films, videogames, you have to take criticism, from the lowliest independent no budget film maker to the richest most extravagant blockbuster production there will be divided opinons, whining about it makes you look like a moron.

It's like if you tell someone "Wow, I really liked this", and the guy (CliffyB, for instance) reponds "Why didn't you love it! Why!?"

man...people really are butthurt about this huh?

I mean, I can't say that 4/5 is all that bad, even if it was a game I loved (unless they're doing the math and seeing it as 8/10...omg wuaaat). think Sessler was being pretty fair.

I mean like I enjoyed Gears 3 but I won't say I'd disagree with the points people made for/against it, be it a 10/10 or 8/10 scoring. ain't nothing is perfect lol

But then again, its kind of a "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" type thing. I will never play Uncharted, most likely, and while I have no doubt its a good game from what some of my friends say, I wont be able to get a review from the most important critic in my world... ME.

I will tell you that the oh so important critic I just mentioned thinks Gears 3 is a 10 out of 10. It improved on everything, went out with a bang, and the multiplayer is far better than two. Also, there are medals that will have people like me playing for a LONG time. Cliffy B's words did not influence that score, his work did.

The bottom line, people shouldnt put so much weight into ANY reviewer except for the most important one... their own selves.
