Well the perfect score did come from IGN, so I don't see why anyone would listen to that in the first place. However, fan rage, as always, is freaking hilarious to watch, so thank you for that.
From what I've seen, Uncharted looks like some mix of Indiana Jones James Bond, and while that sounds awesome, I don't have a PS3.
But seriously, IGN gave Deadly Premonition a 2/10 score. That's a crime punishable by harsh words and a nasty kick to the balls in my book.

this is why i only really watch zero punctuation reviews lol

who cares what the rating is? if a review says it should be worth playing, try it and rate it yourself. everyone's game tastes are different

100% scores are so unnecessary, its like undermining your own scores, no game is perfect.

and if it is perfect, it will be on the pc hahahaha

Ahhh, this reminds me of CliffyB whining about Gears 3 getting an 8/10, or should I say "hate out of 10?" Cliffy is truly a big baby.
But then again, its kind of a "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" type thing. I will never play Uncharted, most likely, and while I have no doubt its a good game from what some of my friends say, I wont be able to get a review from the most important critic in my world... ME.

I will tell you that the oh so important critic I just mentioned thinks Gears 3 is a 10 out of 10. It improved on everything, went out with a bang, and the multiplayer is far better than two. Also, there are medals that will have people like me playing for a LONG time. Cliffy B's words did not influence that score, his work did.

The bottom line, people shouldnt put so much weight into ANY reviewer except for the most important one... their own selves.
You're missing the point, a reviewer thought Gears 3 was a great game, gave it a great score, 8/10, and CliffyB started to whine about how an 8/10 isn't good enough. Or maybe you're not missing the point, maybe you're one of those people who think that an 8/10 is bad.

I'm hoping he does another Soupbox for Uncharted 3 like he did for Killzone 2 because that was some hilarious ranting happening in that video.

I read some of them comments when he gave that review and they were incredibly stupid from the ones that were bitching about the score. I was like they just saw the number and didn't even bother to read why the game the score that it did and went to flame Adam for it. And I would love to know when did 4/5 become a bad score because to me it still means it's a good game and worth my time in getting it.

Also, I would be very suspicious of a reviewer that gives any game a perfect score. When I see a perfect score I read the review and see if that score justifies what was written, and with IGN, it's not really the case all the time.

Honestly, I'm sick of it as well. You have people like the Battlefield fanboys getting so competitive and bent out of shape that IGN dared to give Battlefield 3 a 9 out of 10.

I think people take this video to heart when a game is reviewed.

Literally jizzing everywhere? Oh dear, that must be quite a mess. I hope they clean up after themselves.

in my books any game that gives a 10/10 losses all credibility for me, this is due to a 10 meaning perfection, the strange thing is a 5/5 does not mean perfection for many. for me personally and others I think, feel that a 5/5 always means a 9, this removes the possibly of the game being described as perfect.

In short 10/10 perfect
5/5 a really good game

Edit: thought about it some more, it may be due to the reduced scale that you can apply less exaggerated scores.
such as
1= really bad
2= bad
3= average (this tends to be more accurate)
4= good game
5 very good game

but the main issue is with 1/10 scores as they also have their average messed up

5= crap
6= not very good
7= meh
8= average
9= good
10= mass rage and confusing over what it means :D

in short scores out of 10 don't work anymore as people are crazy :p
I'm not a fan of scores (it creates the illusion of objectivity over what is really just an opinion), but they aren't going anywhere. This is my made-up-off-the-top-of-my-head view on a ten point scale:

1-3: A mess in every aspect. The flaws are everywhere, from the technical aspects to the gameplay to the story. For 1's, there is seemingly no redeeming aspect of the game. For 2's and 3's, some aspects may be functional but do little to save the experience. These are as universally unappealing as games can be.

4-5: Still a heavily flawed game, but it can still please enough of an audience so that it's not negligible. There might be only one strong characteristic in the game, and the rest might be awful. For some, that one strong characteristic makes it a worthwhile play.

6-7: As average a game as you will see released. It could be a good game that is dragged down by poor polish (bugs, bad visuals, etc). It could simply be a thoroughly unspectacular game in any way (a game that won't annoy, won't thrill, but will probably bore you and make you wish you were playing something else). It could be a very shallow game that does something well, but won't maintain your interest long.

8: A good game that has definite flaws that can't be overlooked. Maybe the core experience is fantastic but gets dull and repetitive over extended sittings. Maybe it has a few bugs that will annoy you during an otherwise highly enjoyable playthrough. This is the kind of game that you want to come back to, but want to give it a good bit of time so its flaws won't irritate you so much.

9: An all around great experience that stands out above the rest in its genre. There are flaws, but they are negligible. These are polished games with thoroughly enjoyable gameplay. It's also probably a game you can play again and again.

10: An instant classic. A perfect score doesn't imply a perfect game, as there still may be a few issues. The difference between a 9 and a 10 to me is that a 10 is much more memorable. It's an unforgettable experience that raises the bar for its genre.

Now why do scores in the 1-3 range tend to not be seen so much? Because they die before they hit the market. They would do more damage to a company's reputation than is worth the few measly sales they might accumulate. They are truly failed games.

And even in the 4-6 range, we don't see that much in gaming media. Or we don't see it being reviewed. This, to me, accounts for a lot of the shovelware and shallow kid's games that are being released. There are a ton of them, but gaming outlets generally don't waste the time talking about them. Their target audience isn't likely to be reading even the most popular gaming magazine or website. They get their recommendations for parenting magazines or something similar.

Reviews are by their very nature subjective, and the score somehow allows you to change this into a way of comparing "objectively".
Personally, I think reading the full review is important, as is knowing the background of the reviewer.

Getting a harsh review from a harsh reviewer is the same as getting a good review from an easy-to-please reviewer. Of course, a glowing review from a harsh reviewer will translate to "Buy now", and a bad review from the more amicable one means it must really suck. So a erview someone's linked you to may not tell you the full story. Also, it's good to find a reviewer who's tastes match yours, as "What Makes A Game Good" varies.

I don't see any good that can come of flaming at a reviewer for giving a score that is less than you think a game is worth. Don't like it? Read the work of other reviewers. And if they ALL say the same thing, write your own review, and read that.

Reviews would be so much better if they did away with the utterly useless numerical value and just went purely by the written opinion of the reviewer.

I often debate with myself and my obnoxiously loud conscience over what rating scale is truly correct; currently I've yet to figure out how to make a proper scale.

But...

When generic shooter that is Uncharted gets a higher score than Batman: Arkham City, SOMETHING is wrong here. DEAD WRONG.

Considering how often ive seen a perfect score used for a game that really isnt worth it, i feel they get used far too much. If its a perfect score, why is it not widely known as the greatest thing ever that anyone can pick up and love?
But then that might be why i prefer percentages as i dont think ive ever seen a game get 100%, except on personal reviews by clearly obssessed fanboys/girls.
But really i dont know why people care about the score a game gets, if you like it, then why care what others think of it?
Heck i love borderlands and that got average to good reviews from what ive seen, but im not fussed, considering its one of my favourite games of this generation.
Heck im more inclined to trust reviews who dont give a game a perfect score, cause i doubt there will be anything made that really deserves one.

I can only believe a perfect score if they point out any flaws or discomforts that the game might include. Besides, a perfect score doesn't translate to a perfect game. You could give the next CoD a perfect score and I wouldn't think too much about it. That is not because I'm an FPS hater, but I don't generally play FPSs so I wouldn't know what makes a good FPS other than it looks pretty, the controls work, and multiplayer is exciting to play.

It all comes down to fun factor; even games that you can't wait to play will not prevent people form playing it because a reviewer says that it is less than perfect. You will stop playing this game because you yourself do not find it as enjoyable as you might want to expect it to be.

What I don't get is why the criticism for uncharted 3 on G4 is "It's living in it's formers shadow," When EVERY GOD DAMNED YEAR COD GETS A 5! Even Gears 3 (which is fun) got a 5/5 from G4, but the same sort of series for ps3 gets a 4. Yes, I Rage, but I would also Rage if it was a deserving xbox 360 series. I think Gears 3 deserves a 5 for all they put in to it. I also believe that Uncharted 3 deserves a 5 because it is one of those great singleplayer games with an entertaining multi. I hate that it was knocked a point because they were comparing it to someone else.

That would be like giving Battlefield 3 points off because the reviewer didn't think it was as good as Black ops. That would be like giving Modern Warfare 3 points off because it wasn't Battlefield.

I don't particularly LIKE any of the reviewers over at G4, except for Adam, and now it just annoys me that he is doing this to a game that in all likelihood deserves a 5 if it weren't compared to the 2nd game

Numerical scores are absolutely meaningless. The sooner the public realizes that the sooner we can have better and more complete reviews and less arbitrary afterthoughts tacked onto an equally arbitrary number.
But then people would have to read words, and words are confusing and long and stuff.

And you wouldn't be able to say that my 8.8 game is better than your 8.7 game (even though it's functionally impossible to justify the difference between any two close points on scale longer than 10 points anyway, and so any site/publication which attempts to use one is clearly just making shit up)
Well, MY game got 8.80412! So SUCK IT! AH!

...Yeah, numerical ratings seem to serve little purpose outside of pandering to the illiterate and fueling fanboy wars.

Not really. They're there because the bosses demand scores, and people don't read texts.
I'm pretty sure that's included in "pandering to the illiterate".
