I concur with those who've said BioShock. Just thinking about seeing those visuals on the big screen... Wow.

Also, Portal. More Glados would be fantastic.

Legend. Of. Zelda. (If it was done exactly like that April Fool's joke a couple of years ago:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kKGehSw5ht8&feature=PlayList&p=BC2066E93DC8F989&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=20

EXACTLY like this)

the new Prince of Persia movie looks like it might do all right. I think between the games and the books the Halo universe would be a great way to go. The Hitman movie was meh.

My personal opinion, I think the god of war trilogy would make a great movie. (Theres only enough story between the 3 games for 1 movie)

Well for a video game film to work, you need to find the perfect film that can work without being able to control the action. Any game that basically has a plot that rips from films (MW, Resident Evil, Dead Space, so on) will not work because it simply feel weaker versian. An heavy gameplay, low story relieant game (Mario, Street Fighter, Sonic, Doom, Megaman, so on) is out because the stories have no weight that can be used to any degree and they would have to make their own, which has yet to end in a good film (case in point, Super Mario Bros.). So we need a game with a good story that is not a film ripoff, so lets say Bioshock. Next, we need to give it to people that have talent in this sort of thing. No Uwel Bowl, Michel Baye, or these other hacks then been dropping these out by the truck loads. Once we get all those conditions met, we can have a good video game film.

For a good Game-based Movie, either stick with the source material to a fault (and as such, only take games where the story is pretty detached from the gameplay anyways) or really just take the concept and create an entirely new story (as to not piss fans out by dumbing down the story or failing to recreate the stuff fans liked about the story). And of course, in both cases, make sure the game HAS enough in terms of story and universe to work with.

Oh, and first and foremost, make the movie itself GOOD.

As others said before, a Borderlands Movie could work well, given the game is more a template of a world than anything. I was skeptical if an Assassins Creed Movie would work, but i liked the "Linage" short...
Oh, and we NEED to have a Movie set in the "Vampire: The Masquerade" World. A sort of Thriller based on the "politics" of the modern vampire society would rock (And keep actual Horror to a minimum), especially since the "Masquerade" World is already a clusterfuck of any typical sort of vampire and manages to do interesting stuff with it.

Uncharted could probably work.

And maybe Assassin's Creed... though I think that some of the aspects of it, such as discovering the codex pages in the second one, will be lost if they try and film them.

I know it's been kinda sorta done, then canceled, then made into something else, but I really do think a Halo movie could work. If they went into the origins of the SPARTAN II program and the spartan-to-be's training and such it could be...interesting. Though they'd need to give us as little back story on the covenant as possible, and keep the focus on the spartans' backstory.

And I really don't think a movie based on Indigo Prophecy or Heavy Rain would work, at all. The actual plot to those games is decent, but it's the the fact that player is in control and experiencing those moments that make them good. Make it a movie and it may not be bad, but it will certainly be "meh". Same for mass effect, btw.

I'd like to see a Bioshock film. Just to soak in the brilliant atmosphere.
They are making one.
You know that, right?

OT: Well, the Bioshock movie.
I hope it's good, at least.

I hope they don't balls this up, I had a good idea for a Bioshock movie set during the creation, peak and destruction mainly focusing on a very character driven piece around Ryan Adams, played by Daniel Day-Lewis, this would be my perfect game to film adaptation.

I think either Deus Ex or Bioshock would, but only using the setting and basic plot. Any movie game needs to be heavily rewritten. Don't try to make it like the game, the two types of media don't get along. A game is a long immersive adventure with one character, which is interesting and fun because you _are_ them. Thats boring in a movie. If they take the basics and get a good writing team who goes out to make a good movie with the material instead of trying to please the gamer fanbase alone, there'd be some possibility there.

The exception to this rule has already been made. It's called Advent Children. Now, Hollywood producers, could you please stop injecting molten agony to my eyes with the craptastic movies you make based on games?

Also, this
I reckon any war game could, there aren't enough War flicks these days.
gave me the laugh of the week.
No no no no. You can't say that. Movies based on games COULD work if the appropriate talent was given the project. The problem is, they never are. Video games have all the elements that a good movie would have, plot, characters, action, suspense... you name it. They just need to put someone competent in charge.

Imagine if Martin Scorsese directed a GTA IV movie, or if Ridley Scott directed a Ghost Recon film, thoe would be fantastic. The simple problem here is that Hollywood doesn't respect video game properties and would never put a film legend in charge of one... yet. this will change just as comic book movies changed.

That said, Mass Effect would make an awesome movie.
