The Lord of the Rings: The Third Age

Granted, the whole story was a bunch of poop, but the ending takes the cake. You are in the middle of fighting your way through the Pelanor Fields when you are all of a sudden plopped right in front of THE EYE OF SAURON ITSELF! No explanation as to what just happened; it comes out of nowhere! The whole field is divided into subsections and after crossing into the final subsection, you are on top of Barad-dur attacking the Eye of Sauron!

Big Lipped Alligator moment aside, they don't even make it cool! It is just an annoying grind followed by a generic epilogue of how the Fourth Age has begun.

What a load of shit.

Wet- Press 5 buttons and win.

Alone in the dark- 1 minute ending. That made no difference however you ended it.

Fear- Yes flame attack time I know. I am prepared for it.

Final Fantasy 13- Didn't care enough to pay attention.

Best one- MSG4- just because it was sooooooo epic

Borderlands was kind of disappointing.
No vault full of weapons, power, money and women. Just a prison that holds the lovechild of Cthulhu and a Shoggoth. Although admittedly, I did laugh when CL4P-TP is revealed to be an Interplanetary Ninja Assassin.
Still. Disappointing ending for a great game.

Bordelans but that was saved cuz i had the knox dlc it was still cheap but it was a better ending.

I have to say rainbow six i was about halfway through the game they get a choper boss fight which was bs as they had to "lock ono its radio signal" my ass todays military can do it by stalite and laser guided technology.

Then i find the guy who betrayed me who was way not convincing and i didnt know what hed done apart from betraying me (i played the 1st one to)
and bang you kill him i was like wtf.

Bloody brilliant game though

Metro 2033...a rather lacklustre ending (both of em) considering the intensity/ atmosphere of the game.
Disagree metro 2033 had one of the most epic endings ever!

The Getaway Black Monday. After all that build up about either Eddie or Mitch shooting one another, they both end up not shooting one another. Talk about teasing something that ain't gonna happen.

Assassin's Creed Two: <spoiler=Spoilaaarrz>It was totally fine when it was just Past and Future generations fighting past and future Templars, but then they introduced all this sci-fi-religious-complete-bollocks-y-shit and then there's this ALIEN (I shit you not) telling you that Humans are based off a race that came before them or some pointless shit, and that the world's going to end. THE FUCK?!! Way to pointlessly skullfuck something to the point I refuse to play Asslicker's Creed again.[/spoiler]
They're not aliens.

I swear that bloody sentence is going to rewritten on my gravestone. And I hope you're just trying to add a bit of hyperbole to your post because the game explains what's going on. It annoys me no end that a game that attempts what is actually a fairly high-brow story is berated because people can't pay attention.

Has there ever been a game that seemed fun (or not) up until the ending where it just made you really disappointed in the developers?
I personally hated (off the top of my head) the ending of
Gears of War, where they never actually explained what the hell was going on throughout the entire thing.
It was just a Dethroning Moment of Suck to me.
Have any of you ever encountered the same problem?
i agree gears of war one never made sense to me, throughout the game i was like "dunno why im doing it but its fun" then it ended and i was left thinking "what? thats it?"

Worst: any God of War game in particular but frankly most other games as well
Best: MGS4 (go ahead and flame me, I loved every moment of MGS4's cutscenes)
I'm going to stand in solidarity here. You NEVER hear of someone liking those, which surprises me immensely. Mentioning MGS4 as good usually results in a flame war...
Now for MGS Rising!

Brütal Legend.

I know, I know. Everything in the story was fantastic (I was expecting Lord Devicilous to be Eddy's father, though. Since they pulled some "He never returned/left.".

Anyway, the story was great, but the ending was meh.
Not bad, just meh. Disappointing after being locked in for an epitome ending.

Well, obviously Mafia 2. What a stupid ending. Might as well have ended with the screen going black and "To Be Continued..."

Anyway, after that I finally finished the last few levels of Crysis Warhead. It too had a stupid ending. The first one's ending was far far better. This one it was just like... ok... so what was the point of any of that??

Those are two more recent ones. God of War 3's ending sucked too. Actually that whole game was kinda shitty beyond the ultra violent gameplay.

Assassin's Creed 2... well, it was a stupid ending to be sure but not exactly disapointing.

Oh, right, Penumbra Overture had a good ending, but Black Plague had a stupid one. I mean, wtf. It's in the same bag as Cryostasis... good game that ends with an almighty "WTF??". Way more "wtf" that AC2.

Thanks for saving me the post mate.

On topic Advent Rising, you get a bloody clifhanger with "to be continued" only to have the second game get cancelled.

The whole series is a giant clusterfuck of Illuminati conspiracy theories, from Christianity being a Templar front, to Templars abducting and interrogating people, to the Templars trying to rule the world, to the Templars NOT getting wiped out, to the Templars trying to hide the real origins of humanity, to (I think bbased on Bloodlines) being subtly hinted that Jesus has decendants being raised by the Templars, to the Templars trying to contact aliens. Then there's aan anti-Templar leaving hints all over the place and in paintings as to what the Templars are up to. Everything out of these games, I've already heard a dozen times on Coast to Coast with George Noory.

Don't get me wrong, I love the games, but you have to admit most of their premise is bull. Which plants this squarely in the realm of a Historical Fantasy game, not a Sci-fi game. Nevermind the Genetic Memes theme and the Animus, or the eminent death of the Earth anyway because of the sun about to go bonkers. That's just plausibility fluff.

Fallout 3 made no sense whatsoever. Completely arbitrary ending. (The same as the suicide of the father. He didn't have to do it. I had more hardware than the entire wasteland, and the guy can't wait 10 minutes for me to waste the Enclave.)
Bioshock... two stupid endings, again, with really not much substance after all that philosophy. (The whole "moral choice" thing was a joke, too...)

Ok, well please explain it to me captain clever.
I was paying attention, it was the climax of a good game, why would I not be? And all I heard was that the digital woman was some ancient thing or some bollocks. And then she said something about the world exploding or earthquaking itself to death or something.
EDIT: Watched the ending again, OK she isn't an Alien, but a God. Well, that still ruins the ending. She and others created the humans... for some reason. Then they had a war. For some other reason. Then some stuff happened... and then suddenly the world is going to 'become geologically unstable... very unstable', and from that I interpreted it as: World ends.
I quote Desmond and Ezio's confusing; "I don't understand! I have so many questions!" and "What... the... fuck?!".
I payed attention, it makes no sense. Please enlighten me, because I'm confused.

Either way, Gods or Aliens, I'm pissed off that they had to needlessly add in some otherworldly beings that predict the geological cocking-up of the world, when I was perfectly happy with good old Templars vs Assassins in various time periods.

An ending I really hated? Halo 3. Why? Because of the Legendary ending.
Master Chief lives but is frozen in cryosleep and Cortana is watching over him. Meanwhile, the ship half floats by an ominous-looking planet that looks mechanized. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yygn_vlH5a4
What's wrong with this ending? Well, maybe it's because, I don't know, BUNGIE ISN'T GOING TO MAKE HALO 4!!! THAT ENDING WAS POINTLESS! Are we supposed to be content that he survived, or do we want to actually know what happened? What adventures he may face? The regular ending wraps up the series nicely, with closure, but then the Legendary ennding goes ahead and says "LOL JK we didn't REALLY mean the series is over. Buy our games!"

I guess I'm the only one who liked Assassin's Creed 2's and Fallout 3's endings...

OT:
So you go through this huge "epic" quest to stop the world's most powerful evil, and then finally, after you cut through hordes and hordes of the same god damned enemies over and over, you get an actual climactic boss fight with a giant dragon. And then, after killing a fucking dragon, the game decides the best way to reward you is with text screens. That's right, they reward you with reading, no cutscenes or voice overs or anything, just... reading.

She's not a god either (unless your definition of xis god simply a superior being)z, just part of an extinct and superior race.

Working from memory here:
They created the humans to use as slaves (unlock the Truth video) and when Adam and Eve escaped they rebelled. Then a catastrophe happened which left both races with small numbers, and somehow they know it's going to happen again. Oh, and my bet is on them creating humans through the use of genetic alterations; since they created humans "in their own image".

How? We don't know yet, but that's a perfectly acceptable thing to do in a story that's split into 3 parts. And considering Desmond's entire bloodline are resistant to the pieces of Eden (just like Adam and Eve...) and the pieces of Eden will presumably play a role in stopping whatever the catastrophe may be it was important to take the story back, to rveal just how long this has been going on. Not to mention that it adds to the poignancy of Ezio and Altair being fairly unimportant when it gets down to it (reading the codex is actually pretty sad). Plus, we get an origin for the pieces of Eden.
