Wow, really? Now you're some kind of transcended being in my sight, as it's impossible for me to enjoy these games. It's like playing a minigame of epic proportions and unending creativity to hinder the player to come to terms with the interface.

FPS's. They're fun to play, and despite what my friends say I'm no good at them (they're noobs that touch themselves and ask how to shot web). Just the concept of a FPS makes my fingers hurt with it's twitchy reflexes and evil people spawning right behind me to blow my brains out with a Desert Cobra.

Hello Escapist's, after watching the Starcraft preview here on our humble site, i got thinking about how much i love the RTS, however it also got me thinking about how much i suck at them as around 90% of the time i play online i get dominated.

So escapsit's, what's a game genre you love to play but aren't very good at.
I'm basically the same as you. I love RTS', especially games like Company of Heroes, but 9/10 I get raped when I play with others or ever slightly harder computers.

MMORPGs, and then I mean creating a character that is of any help. I tend to follow guides to get a decent character, but have big troubles making up a build myself. I'm still proud of my Guild Wars warrior build though; that was almost entirely designed by me. The fact that in Guild Wars you can change your build in the blink of an eye, contrary to WoW where it costs you lots of money, stimulates creativity a lot.

Just for the heck of it, here's my Guild Wars Warrior/Monk build:
Lion's Comfort, Barbaric Slash, Gash, Dragon Slash, Enraging Charge, Whirlwind Attack, Radiation Field, Resurrect. Mix with 13 points in Swordsmanship and 16 in Strength, add a good sword and shield, and voilà! You got yourself an adrenaline-driven maniac who charges into every mob he sees and is the bane of any healer you might have in your team.

So yeah, another reason I'm not all that good at MMOs is because I tend to give the healers on my own team a hard time. The health bar is my biggest opponent, a boss I cannot defeat.

I love first person shooters, but I suck at them on consoles, I'm a bit better on PCs.

Survival Horror.
I love watching people play them, but I freeze up and scream and act like a wuss when I try. It's so bad I wasn't allowed to play RE4 at night cause of the screaming thing(but got through the whole game n_n).

A genre, I also find your use of words disrespectful.

OT: Stealth. Boy do I love stealth, but I'm AWFUL at it!
god forbid I offend anyone, oh no, not that
I was taking the michael, mate. Don't worry. You haven't offended anyone as I'm sure you were very worried.

I love RPGs, but I suck at them because I lack patience to finish them. I might have more patience if I could actually role play and say stuff I want to say rather than be fed certain lines of dialogue that depict me being a saint, plain good, normal, a dick, or a bastard. It really sucks when none of them really sound like something I would particularly say either.

Aside from that, I'd say strategy games. I can be good at them, but I have to play through a chapter of Fire Emblem (for example) several times because I have a desire to keep all my characters alive so I don't miss recruitment of anyone who could be useful.

Competitive RTS. I love how the single player campaigns set out either use a small, set amount of units to do a lot of damage or something that is a slow slog against an opposing side that has in-numerous bases.

Online it's usually the enemy builds a few units and rushes my base, fair enough that is a tactic that is easily countered but I just prefer the context of the SP campaigns. I can't really specify the difference as I suppose there are online players who are similarly minded and thus trench in.

Edit:
Oh and Western RPGs, it annoys me how in trying to do one quest I inadvertently unlock about 10 more and I feel obliged to start quests as and when I'm first asked. Take Fallout 3 for example, I sat down one day to play it on my housemate's xbox360 and when he got home a couple of hours later I was at Rivet City because a the main quest sent me on a tangent quest that sent me on a tangent quest. After literally running through Washington (as I was such a low level I had no chance against the super mutants) I got there.

I stumbled across the scientist who knows your father just by accident and *finished* a load of quests instantaneously. My housemate came back and all he could say was 'How the hell have you already gotten here?' - I honestly couldn't answer it. Either way I feel as though I've missed out on a lot of subtle story progression on the basis of being too curious.

all of them ;_;
seriously though my second- or third-favorite part of FPSs is sniping and after a break of several months from 3D FPSs I'm not very good at it any more; also if you think you're good at puzzle games you should check out First-Person Tetris; if and when I get back to it and play for a few days I might consider myself good at puzzle games

Maybe its just that i'm OKAY at first person shooters and everyone else plays them WAYYYY TOO MUCH, so i get killed a lot.

Either one.

This, totally second'd (or third'd, forth'd, whatever its on by this point). I totally totally suck at RTS's, yet I own almost all of them, from Rome thru Homeworld past C&C3 via Company of Heroes by Supreme Commander.

But not TBS's, they suck! (Except Civ4, only because all my friends play it)...
