Metroid other M. yea if the fanbase had just shut up and decided to like samus as she is that thing would have not came into existence. fanbase can ruin a game in its entirety, as long as the developer is just going off of the hardcore base and not going "huh would anyone like samus submitting her self to a man and making a sub par game to go along with it?"

but rant aside i don't play multiplayer simply because all i get from most other people is that i suck because i don't spend all day every day playing the same game. i have given up most shooters simply because i play too many different games to be good enough at shooters competitively. i didn't work an 8 hour day at a crappy job just to come home to listen to some 12 year olds (physically and mentally ) as they whine about how I'm not a master at what game they are playing. id like them to play devil may cry just once so their ears hurt for once.

...and while I'm at it, most RTS games as well. Remember folks: using a strategy your opponent does not know how to counter means you are a cheap, lousy player and you deserve that slew of meaningless cuss words and/or death threats.

It's not my reasoning at all... but it's a common view from the player base. The perspective above is exactly what bothers me about the player base.

I'm absolutely in love with the original Fallout 1 and 2. Tactics to a lesser extent. I eventually had to stop going to No Mutants Allowed simply because of the amount of hate directed to Fallout 3 and New Vegas.

WoW really has as well, it seems if you play during weekdays all you get is the retards how go "gawd your dps is shit uninstall the game naows plx"... then they die because they stand in a boss' area of effect spell which has "BOSS IS CASTING X SPELL, MOVE" on the screen... then blame the healer. Also seems the game has shifted to speed > over social interaction too

You know what? Your post reminded me of something WoW has "contributed" to the world that I would just as well they hadnt... Grammar is horrible everywhere on the internet, we all know this, but the whole "plox" thing really gets under my fingernails with feces speckled ruty nails. How in the wide world of football did it become "cool" to not hyphenate, not condense, but to completely and incorrectly RE-SPELL a word for which there was no alteration neccesary?
Seeing players type "Step up the dps plox" and then its natural de-evolution to "moar heals plx" just makes me want to blow my own head off.

I dont so much get the idea that the developers wanted, or heard any of the fanbase say, that they wanted to see Samus "submitting" herself to a man, but it was definitely a weird direction to take the game in. New is not always good.

Either no one was really thinking, or they deviously thought seeing previews wherein our girl Samus wrecks Mother Brain in 3D would compel gamers to give it a shot. I know thats what did it for me. Shame about, you know... the whole rest of the game.

Portal. "The Cake is a Lie" was intended to portray a previous test subject's descent into madness after realizing the truth about the aperture science facility. As a contextless response to anything and everything involving cake it doesn't have the same effect and after hearing it a few thousand times it doesn't even SOUND funny anymore.

Not to forget that the actual joke here is that during the test course that is all you get promised as a reward, wich in itself comes off as slightly surreal and highly suspicious. Not to mention that it becomes pretty obvious that you inevitably walk into a deathtrap ("You will be baked *bbzt* and then there will be Cake").

So the joke, imo at least, is that "The Cake is a lie" is a jab at all those cryptic messages seen in lots and lots of games, tv shows, movies and books. And it's funny because it's just so very obvious (and of course because in the End, the cake is just about the only thing that ISN'T a lie).

...Of course, many people did not reach further than "weird combination of words is funny" and as such, a pointless meme was born.

But the Kingdom Hearts fanbase does have some very trying people. Even if you like Kingdom Hearts. Even if you like Kingdom Hearts a lot. Even if you yaoi. Even if you like shotacon yaoi. Because the main unappeal of Kingdom Hearts today, is not shotacon yaoi for shotacats. It is often unbelievably loud, obnoxious, and ignorant people. Every bit as annoying as the worst of the Naruto fanbase..

Erm not to sound like an ignorant prat but what is Yaoi, Shotacon or Shotacats? Not heard these words before though the sound pretty negative. I though Shotacon was Shotokan at first .

I too like Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy series. However I tend to pay a whole lot less attention to the Kingdom Hearts fanbase and just enjoy the game. Thankfully its much easier to do than the Final Fantasy fanbase. (see below for reasons)

Single player games can't really be ruined by their fanbase. No matter how annoying they are, it doesn't make the game any worse.

Multiplayer are a different story though.

Can't we just like Final Fantasy? Yeah you've got gripes with one of the games, have them... I'm not bothered about that but its when you start insulting the people playing them.

Its one of the most split fanbases out there. I'd like to ignore it if I can however the Final Fantasy fanbase ends up everywhere including these forums.

None i can think of apart from COD games, but mostly because they never change. Fans love the games they love, but that doesnt mean you shouldnt want change. Yeah, sometimes that change can suck but also some changes can improve the game and make it a new experience again.
