most of the people i know dont think much of me being a gamer....

but when they found out i play Dungeons and Dragons, i couldn't get people off my doorstep. they kept trying to "save my soul from satan"

they dont care about video games, but play a game that encourages you to be creative and read that so happens to have a rule set for deities and your branded a "lost soul" or "devil worshipper"

if they had even looked at a DnD book or sat down at a DnD game, theyd be bored to tears....

The only time I have ever verbally used the phrase "fuck you" was when an egotistical friend of mind tried to use gaming to call me an (in too-advanced-for-his-intelligence phrasing) unsociable uncool nerdy being that is inferior to his dickheadedness. Of course the argument had gotten somewhat heated.

What's said is that he's probably not going to college, even though he's half-black and half-Native American. The system is totally set up for him, yet he's too stupid to take his opportunities.

So, yes, I have encountered gaming being used as an insult.

Hehe, all the time. Same case with nerd and social reject, I've dawned these insults as titles and wear them like a badge of honor... they still haven't figured it out yet.. imbeciles all of them. Oh well, 14 year old stereotypical jocks can't be expected to figure much out can they. (most of them anyway)

My sister equates "Gamer" with "Lazy sonuvabitch who can't do anything right because I'm perfect and you're not and you suck because you are not me."

I have, in the town i am living in now. But in my old town, all my friends were gamers, but in my new town, i have yet to meet one real gamer, and most of the kids think of gaming as a sort of sickness(which is very annoying!) So i have been called a gamer as an insult a couple of times.
It's the exact opposite for me. Everyone of my friends up in Jefferson City are gamers. Now I'm back in Eufaula.

God I hate this town.

Sorry about the double post, I thought someone would have posted by now.

Nothing wrong with being a gamer. I've been a gamer all my life, have plenty of friends, gaming doesn't come in the way of them, or my work. And a lot of my uni friends enjoy gaming.

So, why it should be a problem or an insult alludes me.

Never had it applied to me although I do wish I lived in America sometimes to get a taste of the

"Games are a gateway to Satans realm"

That you don't really get in the UK since I would just love to hand them my Satanic bible and say no this is Satanic

I have been told that I have no life because of a result of games, but I told them I care of her opinion about as much as the opinion of piss in a bucket.

According to my school's standards, the only "cool" games to play are sports games and sometimes Gears Of War.
AND THAT IS HOW IT SHOULD BE.

I don't get ticked off when they call me a gamer but rather when they mock me using gaming sterotypes. "Hey hes playing a PSP. He must wear a retainer and live in his mom's basement and-" you get the idea. Obviously I know things to be untrue and a minor show of intellgence usally gets these people to back off.

Yes I am, most people I know will spit out the word 'gamer' with an air of disgust and ridiculousness. Ofcourse I am a gamer, and I'm proud of that, but I feel annoyed about what people think it means. Same with nerd really, I am a nerd and again I'm proud of that, but if I would say that most people would snicker at me. I hate stereotypes.

Usually only my friends will say it as an insult if they nothing else to throw at me. It never seems to be used as a wholehearted insult anyway.

I enjoy video games and my partner likes to think I'm some kind of gamer, but I don't think he's had it thrown as an insult at him. I think his reaction would be to acknowledge that it's truth, that he is a gamer.

Nope, but I have been called a reader like it was an insult from a gamer friend of mine, he saw me reading a book and he looked me straight in the eye and said "Oh, you're a reader." and then walked off before I could reply. I'm still not sure if he was being serious or not...

Edit: I do play video games, but I like reading too...
