Well, I like stoner metal like Electric Wizard and Kyuss, but thats so slow and heavy that it isn't great for playing anything.

I consider my gaming and musical tastes separate.
I have nothing to add to this, I just felt like quoting you because you sir, are AWESOME!

Metal is quite a juvenile genre on the whole, and a significant proportion of gamers are teenage and/or 'young at heart'.

Personally, I listen to Opeth, Unexpect and Cradle of Filth, but that's as far as my forays go. They rest is stuff like Radiohead, Slowdive, Squirrelnutzippers, Philip Glass and so forth. Diversity is good. All that matters is the musicianship.
MODERN metal is juvenile, you mean.

And although metal might be far more popular genre than you think, music taste and gaming have nothing to do with each other and I know lots of gamers who have very different tastes in music. Myself, I love metal and classic rock most of all.

I used to fucking love metal but recently I've found that most songs seem to sound the same and now I just like a few metal songs which I enjoy listening to.

Though occasionally I'l end up in "one of those moods" and listen to nothing other than metal.

I reckon that by the time I'm 20 I will have idolised every genre of music on the planet for a few months each. ^_^

Their certinaly could be a correlation, judging from forums I've posted on. I'm not sure why it is, I think metal is quite an escapist(ahh, the pun, it hurts) form of music and I think games are often quite escapist things, so they appeal to the same audience looking for that type of thing I suppose.

Suprisingly enough, out of the gamers I know in real life, a very small majority my age seem to be metalheads. I know a fair few metal heads and the most they play is GTA and CoD MW 2. I have a friend a few years older than me though and his older crowd of friends who are now in their early 20s or there abouts, from what I've seen of them, are all massive metal heads and gamers.

So yea, no conclusions can be drawn as of yet.

It's actually kind of sad that to the average non-special interests listener, Metal = a bunch of guys with long hair screaming incoherently while noisily thrashing away at their instruments as if they hate them so much they need to inflict their rage upon us in the form of a sonic onslaught.
With this in mind, take a guess as to why the Rap fans on here aren't as vocal about their music as metalheads are? It's the same problem with our music, people hear the name of the genre and think of the pissy, watered down, publicised songs instead of hearing the majority of better stuff.

Seriously though, OT: rap.

I'm not a big fan of metal music at all though i will listen to almost anything, oh and i just can't get along with a lot of hard core metal fans, most of them seem to look down on you if you mention you like anything other than some kind of metal usually prefixed with something like death, black, gore, grind, pain, core etc

I'm so stereotypical, well, not really anymore since I'm going for more post-rock/metal stuff like Neurosis and Isis now, but I still loved metal,I loved it way before I started playing games too. Maybe it's just the aggressive nature of non-casual games? Beats me but I know I won't ever stop liking Metal, underground rap and alt rock.

I would say I am more a fan of ROCK and most of its children... including Metal... Metal is the most powerful of Rocks children. :D

That isn't remotely true in the broader sense, from my experiences on this site though the majority do enjoy metal. Personally I'm like a bit of D&B, and lately Will Young, when I play - if the game music isn't important for the experience of course.

Why do I seem to be the only gamer who doesn't like it at all? I like 60's Rock, fully Alternative Rock (basically Radiohead) and Old School Hip Hop. What's up with most Gamers being metal lovers.

EDIT: I was more questioning the fact that alot of gamers like metal, like 70% on this site would probably say that their chosen Music would be metal, and yet there aren't THAT many metal lovers around, I know about 3... And none of them play games, maybe it's just the Gamers that go on forums like metal.
Do you like it? No
Why bother then? Don't think too hard, especially over something you simply do not like.
Why does it have to matter what others like or how many others like it and how big that group is relative to some other group?
Its not like pop music or rap, nobody is trying to force it on you.

I worked in a rock bar for years, and it really got me into the music AND gaming... before that, all I'd really played was Simcity on my PC... nowdays, virtually all our customers (which, really, are more of a community than anything else) meet up and play online.
Somewhat guiltily, I have to admit, it also introduced me to P&P games and roleplaying... playing Vampire:TM at three in the morning after we'd closed was a regular occurence, and some of the most fun times we had together.

Yay I fit into a sterotype because I love Death Metal and video games. Huzzah expectations.
OT: I don't know why the sterotype is metal music and video games. Maybe because metal music was just as controversial in the way back when as video games are now.
