I think it's gamers/anime/manga readers type of people who like metal. Seriously all those bloody AMVs of games/anime with a metal sound track, it pisses me off sometimes. Tbh my preffered music is hip hop.

metal just fits, you can never see a rap music video involving a video game, only metal, or hard rock could do that. it's the fast pace and heavy kick ass feel of metal that just makes it like peanut and jelly.

I'd imagine not all of them are. I'm going off metal somewhat, though I used to love it.
Then my friend you are no metalhead. Metal fans are most known for suporting "their" band in a lifetime, while fans of popular music only likes their songs a little while.

Gamers often like metal, why? cause we are awesome, thats why.
and all in all, its good music! it's the real deal, you cannot compare it to rich spoiled billionare heirs who gets auto-tuned. Pop is shit, basically. (<- my opinion)

Personaly im not all that into metal, I enjoy punk rock such as Rise Against. Alternative rap such as Flobots. New retro such as Gorillaz. Or hell even classical, the one thing that gets under my skin music wise is metal or the new crap "not quite rap not quite alternative" stuff like 3Oh3. Or gangsta rap cause that is just annoying to me

But you didnt ask for my opinion so back on topic, its just what fits. You don't get a good adrenalin rush from rap or hip hop (ok maybe from hip hop if its the old dance kind) and when people listen to the music that pumps them up it grows on them ie metal becomes more popular with gamers

But I say we need to unify against the real threat to music... Disney

My hate for metal cannot be quantified.

I'd rather get chlamydia, chicken pox and be impaled by a pineapple on the same day than have to listen to some people scream like they are suffering from a botfly infection (do NOT google that shit) or experience the variations in the metal genre.

Still, the human race is diverse. People are entitled to love things beyond the norm and I have no problem with it. I don't necessarily agree with metal music but I won't burn anyone at the stake for listening to it either.

Live and let live, eh?.
Another one who thinks death and black metal cover the whole of the metal genre. Well done I guess? You're helping keep the stereotype of "LOL metal suckz, it's just guys shoutin Jonas Bros are way better stupid nerds," alive.

I think if you ask most people who listen to metal they will tell you they don't ONLY listen to metal. I may be wrong but I for one fall into that category. I listen to all genres of music but prefer metal. Not all metal. I can't stand goddamn blast beats for the entire song over the whole album. I also don't like falsetto vocals i.e. king diamond, dragon force, etc. There has to be some musical value to it. Bands like Between the buried and me, Septic Flesh, Opeth, Every time I die, etc.

Why do I seem to be the only gamer who doesn't like it at all? I like 60's Rock, fully Alternative Rock (basically Radiohead) and Old School Hip Hop. What's up with most Gamers being metal lovers.

EDIT: I was more questioning the fact that alot of gamers like metal, like 70% on this site would probably say that their chosen Music would be metal, and yet there aren't THAT many metal lovers around, I know about 3... And none of them play games, maybe it's just the Gamers that go on forums like metal.
i think the reason for this is because on a gaming forum you will mainly find the hardcore gamers. and hardcore gamers tend to listen to hardcore music. and it doesnt get louder, faster, harder, better, bigger than metal. now please understand none of those are compliments to metal music, im just saying, metal is hardcore. game forum visitors are hardcore gamers, it would only make sense for them to listen to metal.

I like the music in metal... as in, the instrumental bits.

However, I hate the vocals of most metal bands.

Ok then I'll have to change what I put then, but the thing is its nearly impossible to find instrumentals of metal songs

I'ma gammer, have been since I was little, and even then I listened to indie, alt, brit pop ( Pulp, Blur, not 'pop music' as it is now. ), some grunge like Alice In Chains and Nirvana, also country in the form of Johnny Cash, I listen to very very little metal and even then people say it's not metal as it's not some obscure swedish or finish band. *Shrug.* Depends on what you like, no?

I'm a metalhead and a gamer. Doesn't stop me from loving multiple other genres, but metal gets my blood pumping. Over my 35 years though, I've watched metal go in all directions, from hiphop to noise. And my opinion of what was once "metal" has changed a lot. I find that much of what the teens listen to these days isn't metal at all, but just rock tossed into the wrong category.

And the "right" music depends on the games.
Fantasy games: Classical. No metal belongs here.
Sci-fi games: Ambient metal.
War games: Who gives a shit? I hate war games.

Wow. That really is awesome to the max. Thank you for posting.

On topic: Yes, I do listen to a lot of metal. But I listen to A LOOOOOOT of other stuff too. So I guess I can't really be described as a metalhead. Besides metal and it's bazillion sub-genres, I listen to a lot of classic rock, indie alternative, electronica, folk, whatever Gorillaz is, music from games, music from anime, music from internet videos, Adult Swim bumps, lots of Weezer and lots of Tenacious D. And since the glory of System of a Down can't be held down by a genre, I'll just say System of a Down. Plus a bunch of other stuff.

But none of my friends, gamers or otherwise, listen to metal. It's mainstream crap and some singles from Guitar Hero. It angers me.

The only metal I like is Powerman 5000 but I like to think it's more punk..
Powerman 5000 is nowhere near punk dude, I think the correct term for their genre is industrial metal. If you're interested in punk though I'd highly recommend The Bouncing Souls or The Dead Kennedy's or something along those lines.

OT: I'm in no way, shape, or form a fan of the metal I'm sure you are talking about (Metallica and such), but I am a fan of 2 bands that would be considered metal albeit a bit strange but metal. Converge and another band called Coalesce, they are fucking kick ass, Oh headshotcatcher you might like Converge if you like Powerman 5000.

One more thing, I fucking hate Disturbed.

I used to love metal and was an avid gamer. Now I'm a bit more casual and I listen to such a wide spread of music I couldn't call myself a metal lover. I see what you mean though, it's because a lot of gamers start out at 13, and 13 year olds like to think they're outcasts, so they embrace being "Nerds" and Metal and pasty white faces and not liking sports.

You know, just like when we all were 13 ;D
