I'm more metalhead than gamer I think. I love going to concerts and metal/rock clubs and wearing darker shades and all that stuff. That's not to say I dislike other genres however. I would happily listen to jazz, blues, and most other things (draw the line at R'n'B and folk though) if I've heard its good.

Like many though, most of the so-called metal generated today just leaves me cold, as does its supposed associated imagery (I hated Brutal Legend, but that's mostly because I hate Jack Black...tosser). All this screamy, homogenous, emo lovin crap that clogs the diminuitive metal sections in most stores makes me wonder where it all went wrong. Whoever thought singing like someone cut your vocal chords was a good idea needs to executed, buried, exhumed and executed again, just to be sure.

But, I find you get similar problems in all genres. Sifting through the mainstream, processed shit is hard work, but eventually finding what you like makes it worth the effort at least.

I like basically everything.

Well, except for most stuff released recently.

Weell, except for almost anything released recently.
Your avatar tells me that you like old school like Rainbow and Purple. You have a nice taste. I was once at a Rainbow gig, but it was free, so there were thousands of grannies bringing the kids to see. It was REALLY crowded with people who have never heard of Rainbow. Damn, I even looked for 15 mins. to find a place I could see Rainbow from.

I never really liked metal, per se, but I like rock in general, and sometimes I come across metal I like (alice in chains, some random seether songs). I like most of the music from the Grunge movement and 90's alt rock (third eye blind, eve 6), and 60-70's rock (Beatles, Led Zeppelin)

I prefer listening to metal music, but also I listen to a lot of rock genres, jazz and funk.

But now to the point, I am the ONLY ONE in my entire gaming community listening to metal, the rest is listening, and LIKING, Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga, Ke$ha and random techno o_O

Why? WHYYYYY?

It all depends on what people consider metal, most of the gamers i know i would consider emo though they say they listen to metal, though i dont consider the music they listen to metal at all.

i think its most popular with gamers because it fits with most games that are played, shoot em ups, beat em ups, large scale wars just general fighting games. i can't really see me playing MW2 for example to james blunt's you're beautiful.

I like to think I'm a metalhead, but I listen to more than just metal, I'm also quite the fan of Muse (Alt-Rock), David Bowie (Space-Rock), Pink Floyd (Prog-Rock), Alter Bridge (Grunge-Rock) and Powderfinger (Classic-Rock), so a few different genres there, but thats not to say I don't like Karnivool, Dream Theater, Tool and Stone Sour, I listen to them a lot too.

As with Furburt, my musical tastes are different from my gaming tastes

I can only stand some a metal, for the most part it's classic rock/classic punk for me (The clash hell ya.) But I can sort of understand liking metal considering now you can play music while playing games and while I don't like metal I'd rather listen to Korn while playing Golden eye then the actual in game music.

To me, video games and rock music seem to go together like PB & J. I'm not sure why but the raw power and energy motivates me when i play games like 'Doom','Street Fighter' or even 'Asteroids'.

though it is most likely that in this current day and age, the people who like games such as 'CoD: MW2' just think Metal is badass, so they listen to it.

music taste gushing:
I LOVE AC/DC!

but other than that i also enjoy;
Guns n Roses
Ozzy Osbourne
Motley Crue
Tenacious D
Judas Priest
Dio

and a little bit of Alice Cooper.

I try too keep my music and my gaming apart, my music usually doesn't correspond with the game and it feels out of context. I try to appreciate the soundtrack of the game itself, for it was made and triggered at certain moments to be theme specific;my constantly playing music does not.
Though, I guess I'm a metal-head; I listen to Metallica and Iron Maiden, but I also listen to Disturbed, Dethklok,Rise Against,The Who,Muse, and Avenged Sevenfold
Edit: forgot Tenacious D to brighten up my day with some Rock-Humor

Maybe metal fits the stereotype of introverted friendless nerd?

Ahem sorry had to, no offense :)

The only metal I like is Powerman 5000 but I like to think it's more punk..
Are you kidding me back in mty country i had tons of metal friends and i tell ya this:
Metals are friendly as a MAAFAKA and every chance they get will go to the park with 20,000 bottles of beer and have a blast.
Now its completely un-true that all gamers are metals. But i would kinda agree that most of the gamers on forums are metals. At least from what i saw on Escapism Sydney.

I have never been able to explain why I love metal, I just do. I love Death Metal (Melodic Death Metal as well), Power Metal, Folk Metal, Progressive Metal and Viking Metal. But I really dislike metalcore stuff, or usually anything-core stuff. It just doesn't sound good to me.
