Gamers and Metal Music

I like metal, but some screaming just kinda kills the guitar, and ruins the awesome riff/melody that's playing. There are some songs where I think screaming actually fits with the song rather than just being an appendage, but for the most part I stick to metal rather than screamo.

Yeah, my musical tastes are pretty limited. It's rare that I go out looking for new music... In fact, every single band listed except for Muse and Man on Earth, I started listening to in the latter months of this past year.

I don't listen to music while playing games, but I still think that metal is what God listens to. I love most of it, especially melo-death. Me like some In Flames and Children of Bodom. I'd imagine not all of them are. I'm going off metal somewhat, though I used to love it.

Then my friend you are no metalhead. Metal fans are most known for suporting "their" band in a lifetime, while fans of popular music only likes their songs a little while.

Nor do I claim to be.
My taste in music changes every so often, but there are always three constants: Biffy Clyro, The Kooks, and Trivium.

I'm almost certain that I will never stop loving those three bands, no matter how much my tastes change. =]

I'm a metalhead and a gamer. Doesn't stop me from loving multiple other genres, but metal gets my blood pumping. Over my 35 years though, I've watched metal go in all directions, from hiphop to noise. And my opinion of what was once "metal" has changed a lot. I find that much of what the teens listen to these days isn't metal at all, but just rock tossed into the wrong category.

And the "right" music depends on the games.
Fantasy games: Classical. No metal belongs here.
Sci-fi games: Ambient metal.
War games: Who gives a shit? I hate war games.

I almost went metal in high-school I just stayed punk and went a bit grungie and now am going alternative. But I agree that alot of gamers listen to metal, I wouldn't say 70% but more like 40%. of course my best friend is a techno whore.

CBA to read all the posts, thought i'd add my input, i would probably say the music i listen to while gaming is mainly metal, i also like a lot of drum n bass, rap, hip/hop and dance music

Point is I don't like it, the songs don't make sense. 3/4 of the music is white noise of a resonating guitar or someone banging on the drums like a 2yr old with a bunch of saucepans. It isn't pleasent to the ears, the lyrics are either mumbles or screams. There is no middle ground. Even the few that have a melody like SOAD have a nice quite moment that I like and then all of a sudden it goes spirals into a chaotic screaming mosh pit.

BYOB is a perfect example. I love the chorus but then inevitably someone screams and then I want to kill a kitten.

Arrgh there is so much wrong with that blanket and inaccurate generalization you just made that my brain is having spasms.

You are listening to the wrong kind of metal!

Black, Death, Thrash, horrible [insert word here]-core, or (shudder) Nu metal bands are not representative of metal as a whole. I love metal and I bloody hate those sub-genres!

Notice how there are no bursts of white noise, mumbling, or incoherent screams to be found? Funny how that works.

I don't expect you to love that stuff, or even to like it, but if you're going to hate it, do so for valid reasons, not because you've heard a bunch of terrible hybrid metal bands and/or the loud screaming ones and then blithely assumed all metal is like that, because it most certainly is not.

Back on topic,I listen to a lot of music,techno,punk,electro,and yes,metal,but i have no favorite genre,i just like good music

Except i never really got rap....rhyming with simple beats in the background...

I guess I'm the odd duck on these forums because my favorite genre of music is Country/Western followed closely by Ska. I never really liked the whole Metal thing, it just never really flowed with me.

Are you kidding me back in mty country i had tons of metal friends and i tell ya this:
Metals are friendly as a MAAFAKA and every chance they get will go to the park with 20,000 bottles of beer and have a blast.
Now its completely un-true that all gamers are metals. But i would kinda agree that most of the gamers on forums are metals. At least from what i saw on Escapism Sydney.

Powerman 5000 is nowhere near punk dude, I think the correct term for their genre is industrial metal. If you're interested in punk though I'd highly recommend The Bouncing Souls or The Dead Kennedy's or something along those lines.

Technically, yes. However I don't think it resembles metal all that much, especially because it's like the only metal band I like.. As I said, I like to think they're more of a punk band

Ok, there's a game that came out recently that can pretty much explain why everyone in the gaming community is enamored with Heavy Metal.

It's called Brutal Legend.

I feel Metal attracts the same kind of people who are into flights of fantasy that would play Devil May Cry or Soul Calibur. The themes of frustration and fantasy are ones that mix with video games all too often. Metal's actually a pretty geeky genre. (Considering one of the first Metal songs was called 'The Wizard')

Of course, with gaming becoming more and more mainstream, I really doubt most gamers listen to a dying (in America at least) genre of music. The CoD and Halo fans probably listen to a completely different genre.

I'm not metalhead. Whilst I've found the odd metal band that I'm fine with I wouldn't ever say that's what my music taste was. I'm more into noise and indie and pop.

Then again I'm female, rather than male. And I'm not an angsty fuck or into loads of technical stuff. Or particularly geeky in the way metal fans are.

Radiohead isnt exactly what I would consider as Alternative, unless your talking about strictly 20th century Radiohead stuff.
