I like all types of rock, from screamo to alternative, but I also know gamers who like rap, others who like pop, and some who like classical. I don't know about having bad taste.

Music is honestly so subjective there could never be a stereotype. If a person said that some bands is awesome, and 10 people agreed with him they would think he has a great taste in music. If 10 different people disagree they would believe they have bad taste. I don't think someone can judge another person's taste.

I'm pretty sure that Autotune (or at leas something close to it) has only ever been used well in a game (portal 1 and 2) so I'm going to say that game music is better than most to all "popular music" .... Not that anyone needs my opinion or anything.... (I think I just reinforced the stereotype)......

I've never even heard this. It's a new one to me.

I for one have had tonnes of great conversations with other gamers about great music, but since it IS subjective it's actually impossible to even test the theory that gamers have bad taste.

I don't recall I ever said that you meant the word fag as in homosexual, nor do I recall chastising you for using that specific word. What I meant was that you obviously meant it as a negative label, so it could have been replaced with douchebag, git, etc. and it still would not have made your post, as far as I'm concerned, any more tolerant to other types of music. All I'm saying is (give peace a chance!) that if we accept that people have different tastes in music, we could stop petty arguments about which music is the best and rather work together on the evolution of music to create even better songs. ^.^

Well my musical taste doesn't really have alot to do with games. I like VNV Nation, but also listen to a large variety of stuff (duke ellington, the chordettes, passion pit, aphex twins, etc..) have I looked up a song that I liked from a game? yes, thus why I now like cage the elephant, so to an extent, games help promote music, music i've discovered due to games: the ink spots (fallout 1) cage the elephant (borderlands) passion pit (little big planet 2) i'm sure there are others, are they all considered the greatest of music? no.

If anything, maybe you could defend some of the music by pointing out that some bands (cage the elephant especially) wouldn't be as widespread without the tie in to gamers...

and if I'm making no sense and rambling, I apologize, just pulled 2 8 hour shifts at 2 different jobs, so coherency isn't at the top of my list.

Art is culturally based. There is no absolute notion of "good" and "bad" in an art form like music. Therefor no group can have bad or good taste in music. All taste is equally valid.

Haven't heard of this before... most people I know who are deeply involved in any kind of music scene are gamers, and listen to everything from Fleetwood Mac to Seether, Led Zeppelin to the Black Daliah Murder, the Sugar Hill Gang to Bus Driver...

I guess it must be a pretty exclusive group of music snobs that hold this view...
Then again, I'm talking about Generation X folks for the most part. When I say gamer, I mean a person raised on the Atari 2600, NES and Sega Master system... and usually only into retro games or PC strategy games.

But to me, A bad taste in music, isn't what you like or don't like, its how much you like.

I find Metalheads to have a bad taste in music because they for some reason find other types of music to be "inferior" and close off there music pallet. A lack of variety to me, is a the closest you can have to a bad taste in music.

Not true at all. Im a metalhead myself and I listen to all kinds of different music, from techno to ambient to experimental to video game music (even though that's not techinically a genre of music). I also know plenty of other metalheads who also have a very broad musical taste.

I do agree with your statement though. However, applying it to an entire group of people, no matter if its based on your own personal opinion, is a gross generalization.

I don't mean to be rude by what I wrote or what I'm about to write. Just aheads up, I by no means hate metalheads.

Its easy to say Metalheads hate every other genre because the term Metalhead is the first, if not only term for a Group that implys they like a certain type of music. Admittedly you can say Gangstas like Rap and "Cowboys" like country and Punks listen to punk, but there are certain other aspects to the name engulfs more then the type of music they listen to.

I listen to metal, and I don't call myself a Metalhead. Gangsta's live a lifestyle that would exist with out rap. "Cowboys" have a culture beyond country, and although it would not be as big as it is today, we would still have rodeos and other stuff associated with country. Punks are punks because of there political beliefs, this reason to band together for anarchy, although idiotic, lends some validity and respectability to the group.

Metalheads exist solely because Metal exists. There are no commonly fought for political opinions. There is no culture that is associated with Metalheads that wouldn't exist if it wasn't for metal. Why would anyone call themselves a metalhead just to gain notoriety as a Metalhead, what do you need to be a Metalhead besides liking metal.

but they've also probably never heard video game music. I could name at least fifty examples of great music from video games that sound much better than whatever is popular at my school, on the radio, and in the "top ten downloads" on itunes.
