I'm 21. I dread the day that I find myself too old to play games. I look around and see people not even 10 years older than me who seem to have "grown out of it" so to speak.

That said, I do have some hope. Most of the 30+ individuals didn't grow up in a time where gaming was as big as it is today (or at least so mainstream). The fact that I did grow up in this era might mean that it'll take a heck of a lot longer for me to loose interest and do something important with my life.

I'm 32. I love RPGs (but that hasn't changed since I was 12). Can't wait for the new FF, White Knight Chronicles and SO4:International. I haven't yet played Dragon Age (but my wife will probably buy that for me for X-Mas).

Aside from RPGs, I enjoy some fighting games, some action games (like God of War or DMC).

I absolutely HATE FPS games. They lack innovation and creativity and I personally find them boring and bland.

BTW, what a stupid comment about adults and gaming (though I guess I'll forgive the 16 year old, he's just a child).
I in no way said it was MY opinion, just that it was AN opinion. Which is very common, by the way. You can point out how it's stupid until you're blue in the face, and yet, it'll still exist.

As I said to my friend's son a few years ago (when he said it was disgusting that people over 30 still had sex) I'll talk to you about this when you are 30 ;-) He is in his early twenties now and is knows that he is going to be conceding defeat in that argument in a few years, so I will see all you much younger gamers in a few years time..........
If you are still playing, fine! If not, also fine we all walk our own path, I am married with 3 kids and have some good friends, socially adept and mostly happy (apart from the sad death of my own mum last month) I wish you all the best for your futures whatever it brings :)

i don't know why 30+ people even game.

there are so much greater things to do.
When you grow up you'll realise that adults like to have fun too.

I'm 29 and game most days. I hope I'm still doing it when I'm 80.
i know. but i'd try fun in a different place other then my living room for hours.

that is when i have transportation.(neccesity)
Believe me, some of the best fun available to humans can be had in living rooms.

but not being allowed to go long distances without involving my mom or the train, really bothersome.
You can smoke weed and game. Where the hell do you want to travel anyway?
anywhere i feel like.

i get these really spontanious ideas. (3-4 times a week) and my friends share in that. but were all to young to do such things, and the one that's over 18 is to responsible.

31 year old, here.

I hate a minor "should i stop gaming moment?" when i hit 30, but then i discovered that it's my release from the stress of everyday life..

Currently focus my efforts on "WoW", though i also like turn-based and real-time strategy games, and the occassional LEFT 4 DEAD game.

I just started playing the Torchlight DEMO, and kinda dig it.

I'm 30 and I am turning into a right grumpy old man in regard to games. The stuff the kids are into these days.......

Doom >>>>>>>>>>>> MW2

What I want is twitch gaming, zero plot and fucking HIGH SCORES.

I remember when games just wanted to give you immediate fun, you didn't get pishy tutorials, cut scenes, regenerating health (!) and multiplayer meant playing with people you liked on a sofa and not bastards......I remember when games were games and not shitty interactive movies.

Genuinely the game I've played most on my 360 is Doom and the game I've played most in the last year is Quake Live.

Favourite console since the dreamcast is the DS.

32 here and been gaming forever. Text adventures on my Tandy Color Computer. Ah the memories. Why do threads like this exist? We game, kids think we're lame for gaming, so now we're just easier targets. Yeah I play MW2, and I'm pretty good at it with another team of adults. Not just 5 year olds running around calling everyone fags, casting racial slurs, owning(sorry I refuse to spell it like a dyslexic 3 year old from Slovakia), and teabagging the dead. Wow, wait there's a major distinction between 30 somethings(and older) and the children of this world. We bought the game with our own money and want to enjoy it.

Oh, the folly of youth. You'll come to rue, RUE, doing all of that when you see the price one day.

Sorry about derailing the thread a bit here, I hope no-one minds.
That's OK...once the dementia kicks in, I won't remember what my original post was anyway...

Uh, because gaming is a lot of fun? What, I can drive, so suddenly I should stop enjoying games? That makes no sense.
no, but i would.

it's just my personal view, when i'm 18 i wanna go places not stay in my livingroom for hours playing whatever game.

doesn't go up for everyone though.
To each their own. Problem is you are looking down on those that can do differently then you have imagined, but don't. I really, really doubt you are suddenly going to find yourself traveling around everywhere, toiling day in and day out at a job and not play some games, but hey if you manage to find yourself a social life that occupies every moment of your non sleep, non work (or school) time then more power to you. I have a fairly active social life, but I don't go out to the bars every night. I play games to unwind.

Edit: Oh I am 27 by the way. That is eleven years now since I was able to get a license. Nine years since I bought my first car.

I don't think I was talking about you. I was talking about rokkolpo. But if I hit a nerve with you, maybe you should just take a little inward trip to examine your true feelings on the matter.

I'm just on the brink o' three-oh. 29 1/2 ^_^
What I'm currently playing is: WAY TOO MUCH Dragon Age! Damn you Zevran and your elusive four-way pirate action!!

Also, I've been playing Half-Minute Hero on the PSP. S'great.
And recently I went through Bullet Witch again. What with Bayonetta comming out soon, i thought it just made sense.....

The games that I'm into are mostly RPGs, Puzzle, and especially Horror games. Looking forward to the new Silent Hill on the Wii. From the first day that I heard about the Wii, I have been praying for this game. Wheeeeeee!

As the latest numbers put the average age of gamers somewhere around the mid-30s, I was just curious about a couple of points.

First off, as one of the 'older set' myself, I'm wondering how many of the over-30 crowd hang out here ....

And I'm also very curious as to which games the over-30 gamers are really into.

I'm 36 ... and got into video games through an unhealthy obsession with table-top gaming. So, it's not surprising that my heart belongs to RPGs - most especially BioWare's offerings. My brain is currently being eaten by Dragon Age.

Anyone else? Or am I the lone oldie in a sea of whippersnappers.

*Shakes fist* Get off my lawn, you punks!
I'm 29. RPG seems to be a super-expansive term now. Any game where you can buy your guns before deathmatching the Hell out of your enemies (Borderlands) is now an RPG.

I play quite a bit of retro games. I love FPS's if it's one of those years that only happens once or twice a decade wherein they don't all suck. And I love love love a good stealth game. Unfortunately by good stealth game I only mean one of the 1st 3 Splinter Cell's.

I'll be 30 in a couple months. I've been gaming since the early 80s starting with my ColecoVision and Commodore 64, moving ever onward to tabletop RPGs, CCGs, next gen PCs/consoles, etc.

I may be a few years behind the original poster, but I shake my fist and grumble about kids on lawns with the best of them...
