Anything to do with modern "meme" culture, including things like

Lolumad
roflcopter
Arro2knee
dovahkin (spelled in a million different ways, I've seen four people with this name today)
Trolol
Rageface

Also anything to do with pot, nobody cares that you like pot, making a username like that just makes you look bloody juvenile because nobody over the age of 16 who does pot thinks they're 'hardcore' for doing so.

And people who use popular anime characters for their names, I mean, I like anime, but I don't see why anyone would want to be referred to as "Ichigo" for the entire duration they spend using that game/website.
Agreed it can look stupid, I prefer to use titles, like The Hero of Time and shit... without actually ever referring to the character. You'd be amazed by the amount of Super Saiyans out there.

And now I'm feeling all smug when looking through this thread, and seeing that none apply to my username.

:D Me too! I was thinking the same thing!

Back when Bluetooth was popular (that brief period with phones) I changed my phone name to:
-xXx-SeXi-BlOnDe-HoTTi-xXx-

I used to get hilarious messages from blokes in pubs trying to chat me up, and one disturbing cock photo...

When they asked were I was in the pub to 'chat', I used to just direct them to random blondes in the bar and watch the hilarity... Lots of confused faces!

But that is the only time I have ever even considered a name like that!

I used to be on live with a guy who named himself PooeyHoop, that always made me chuckle!

I hate any username that is impossible to pronounce. Just imagine playing a multiplayer game with several other players and you want to talk specifically to the user Xtlkrrrtlksrptt. You can't say his name but other players have to understand you're not talking to them. You could say "guy whose name I can't pronounce" but that only works if there's only one of those guys in the game.

HOW VERY DARE YOU!, my mother named me like this at birth! ...
oh wait... damn tricksy hobbit, YOU TRICKED ME!

Any name with "69" at the end of it, chances are that player will be a)very offensive and rude and b) about 13 years old and a virgin, on KillZone you get a few users with Japanese writing as there names, they are guaranteed to be cheaters/glitchers/lag switching players because try fucking typing there names to report their asses.

I get called a Noob all the time on PSN when I use my "NewClear92" profile, got called a 20 year old ****** the other day, I told him I take it he assumed that 92 was my birth year when in fact I'd chosen the 92 because its the atomic number of uranium which is needed for Nuclear fusion.. get it, NewClear?, I then noobtubed ProPiped him into oblivion.

I'm kind of blase about usernames but it does irk me when people get precious about them. I think I was playing Rift and grouping with somebody called LordAxoltedManceRaiser or something and he kept getting all bent out of shape when I called him Lard Axe.

I mean really.

That's actually quite ingenious. Terrible, of course, but ingenious.

Most people already said most of it. But I hate random numbers after your name, or the year you were born. Like carl04859....WHY?! What does that number possibly signify?! IT'S TOO LONG TO BE YOUR FAVORITE NUMBER WHAT IS IT?!?!

Anything that cannot be comfortably read aloud or typed without having to refer back to the source material is so very annoying. While playing WoW, if your name met either of these conditions, the guild would vote on how you would be addressed.

Noobslayer, noobpwner, noobkillah, and any variations of such.
Seriously, where's the achievement in killing noobs?
The meaning of those names are the equivalent of boasting that you are better than newborn babies or handicapped people.

Oh yeah, anything to do with MLP as well; I usually put those people on ignore.

I'm happy to say that none of my usernames anywhere qualify for this. I've always refused to use numbers or leetspeak of any kind when choosing a username. I usually stick with DaftTechno or Technomancer, but if those are taken I have a few others. If none of my usual handles are available, I've been known to sit for upwards of half an hour trying to come up with something original.

I usually don't let this kind of thing bother me, but I'd have to say any thing crude or vulgar and/or bookended with a fuckton of X's.

Names like XxNaRu70UzUm4k1xX, even just NarutoUzumaki would make me want to punch a kitten but the added leet speak and x's make me want to dropkick an angel.

I'm also not a fan of names with numbers at the end because I think if the original name is taken you should think up a new one.

Well, to be honest I think sometimes myself that the nick is stupid. I somehow came up with it when I needed a username for an online game and every name I tried was already used. I still use it most of the time because over the time I kind of associate myself with that nick and I'm to lazy to think of a new one.

My username is MeChaNiZ3D.

Just...sayin'.

but to address the question, while my name is actually a parody, I still couldn't bring myself to either put underscores on both sides, or any variation of X-X, xX-Xx, or xXx-xXx, because I hate seeing it that much. How the f*** am I supposed to pronounce that? kssssks lonewolfsniper ksssks? Also, it just begs the question, did you just miss out on your username because it's generic as hell, or do you actually bother with and want to be represented by those superfluous X's?

Numbers instead of letters is a bit silly too, but I like a tasteful replacement here and there. Hence why I am not called M3Ch4N1Z3D.

EDIT: Also almost anything with noob in it (especially the somehow more common n00b) and anything that is the full name of an anime character when not reflected in in-game actions.

I mean, what is it with the obsession with the letter X?

Every time I log on I see XX-Insert name here-XX Or weird letters placed in the word.
And the abundance of the following:
Toxic
Sniper
Magik
Assasin
Boi
Alucard

As a full innuendo, we all see names like 'Xx I ToxIIczz v xX' or some shit like that. It really annoys me.
I've been saying that for years *sigh* Still nobody understands how plainly unoriginal, uninspiring and to be blunt, lame, you look with a gamertag or account name like that. You might like it, but you're just another fish in the stupefied sea.
[hr]
Second guy down in my recent players list is called "backjuiced", not bad. Some other good ones were "BondableUrchin", "Corrupted Ewok" and "CornishJoker".

Beneath them is "KoG UnKnOwN" and "DiGiTaLDElIrIuM"; two decent names, but ruined by the silly alternating letters. GT's like "Bryce waz here" and "CAPT RYAN" are on the line of brain-dead imagination, barely tolerable, but not facepalm-worthy.

Names like those ones are what you expect to see online. Instead, referring back to my recent player list, you get "SPARTAN II UNSC", "MLG x PR3DATORZ", "solid898", "Xxo0OKEVINO0oxX", "UxcanTxtouchxMe", "Z3n0x II R4W II" and "UrbanNinja1670"... I take it "UrbanNinja1669" was already taken then...

Mines nothing to shout about in the originality department, but it was the first account name I used for stuff that's inspired more original creations with time. I'm not going to share them as I've said on this website before, in case someone nicks them before I get a chance to do so (assuming someone else likes it for their own), but thinking up an awesome original name can be really fun so I'm surprised not many people actually spend time to do it.

There's nothing wrong with showing your passion for a certain film, game, book, or whatever in your account names - but do so in a way that doesn't make you look stupid... unless that's your intent. You have an imagination so use it.

As others have stated, I hate names with numbers on the end or a bunch of x's and o's strung before and after it. Also, simply as an admin on a server, I hate names which you cannot physically say or names made up of strange characters (makes them harder to keep track of and ban and whatnot).

Playing WoW, names drive me insane. I wonder wtf people are thinking when they make them.

The millions of rogues in the game with dark or silent or stab in their name, the other millions of deathknights with the word death in their name. The other people who think of a name, but it's taken, so instead of thinking of a new name they put those fucking retarded letters in it.
Oh come on, EVERYONE knows that the best rouge name is SiLeNtDaRkStAb.
Fact.

OT: Anything with unnecessary numbers. The only case i liked was a guy called Teatime42.
His second name was Teatime.
I have No idea where the Forty-two comes into it.
