Assassins Creed, very little blood, no nudity, no language (err actually I remember one of Desmonds lines being: "this is straight FUCKED" but it was still very minor in a 20+ hour game). I guess it was the whole concept of being an assassin that gave it the M rating.

StarCraft. There may be debate, but I do own a copy with a front cover that says "M" on it. It may have been reclassified "T", but I don't know.

I'd have to say the Dead or Alive games. Seriously, rated M for "partial nudity"? I saw a lot of cleavage, but that's it, and I used every character.

Mine's a 16+... where are you getting that from?
In the U.S. where I live M ratings are 17+
Oblivion used to be a T rating, which is 13+

I guess it depends what country you live in.
I own an old version of Oblivion that still has the T rating on it.
So do I actually.

I don't know why, but it makes me proud to own it.

Halo 3.

It could get by on an E rating. That would definitely be appropriate if you take the community into the equation.=p

Hmm. We go: 3+, 7+, 12+, 15+/16+ and 18.
Yeah, the U.S. goes:
E which is everyone 3+
E10+ which is, well, everyone 10+
T which is 13+
M which is 17+
AO which is adults only, 18+, which I believe is pointless.
Oh AO is not pointless at all, it has a very specific use. It's the "Stamp of Death" for gaming, since no major retailer will sell AO games. It gives the ESRB the power to censor any game that doesn't fit within their moral viewpoint.

I'll jump on the halo bandwagon, R16 in my country. I'll add SW: Battlefront as well. An M (recommended 15+ but only sometimes enforced) for nothing. Pretty much just because you have a weapon, there's no blood or swearing or anything else.

Halo 3 and Red Faction Guerilla come to mind when I think about this, but are there any other M rated games that you thought didn't deserve that rating?

EDIT: The "M" rating refers to the 17+ rating in America. I obviously didn't make this clear enough.
I personally think that fallout 3 and F.E.A.R. 2, and Dead Space should have been R18+...
Oh that's right, we don't have an R18.... Fucking Atkins...

In regard to the post above me, AO is useless, because then that would knock out the WHOLE of Australia as consumers, until the government get it through their thick heads that most gamers are above the age of 18 and let us stop playing edited version of the games everyone else in the world is enjoying in their entirety.

I guess, I just don't see the big differance from "17 and over can only play this' and "18 and over can only play this"

Its like movies rated "R" and "NC-17" I just don't see why a 1 year diffance is so significant.

Bah, the whole system confounds me.

Bioshock... Because a cut scene in which a man (splicer) gets stabbed through their stomach by a big daddy is not in the least bit gorey... :p

I just explained it to you. The R and M ratings exist to justify the systematic censorship of media by the MPAA and ESRB respectively.

Well in Australia No More Heroes had all the blood cut out and still got an M rating (15+) so I'm going with that.

Mad World got an MA 15+ rating (does anyone see a difference between M and MA?) and that was not cencored to my knowledge.

No, I understand that, I just don't understand why they need 2 seperate ratings, each are treated so differantly, when the age differance is only 1 year.

Thats what I don't get.

I don't know how to explain it any clearer than I already have, to be honest. The M and R ratings exist so that these rating agencies can pretend to be 'protecting the children' while using their position to censor media that they see as unfit for public consumption.

And the corpses that are all over the place in the planes of Oblivion added to it as well.

Its not the M and R ratings I'm confused about, its the AO and NC-17 ratings. They are basically the same damn thing as the M and R ratings. Mature games are said to only be played by people 17 and up, while AO games are said to only be played by people 18 and up. Why would they have another rating that is basically the same as the other, with the age differance being one year. It just seems redundant and pointless.

Well, the planes of Oblivion are basically Hell, in which case what do they expect from a place like Hell? Unicorns and gardens?
