STALKER. Yes, the games are very flawed. Yes, I only played SoC and CoP. Yes, I only finished CoP. They were both fucking awesome.
Also, Kotor.
And Planescape Torment. Though I've yet to find someone who dares rip on that game.

Baldur's Gate 2. It was damn good and nothing you say will diminish its greatness.
i second this, but i would also make the same argument for the first one

balurs gate 1 and 2 (and of course the expansions). those will go down in history to me as the best rpgs ever made.

i would also defend to the death, the greatness of beyond good and evil. but fortunately, no one would ever disrespect that game...right? *cracks knuckles*

Honestly, I don't have that many. I still have quite a bit of games that I love but I generally consider no game to be perfect and flawless that I will defend it no matter what.

Sure, I love Fallout 3, but I've also watched Shamus Young's Let's Play series on it (anyone who's seen it will know what I'm talking about) and I understand that the game has flaws and should be able to be made fun of through some good-nature ribbing.

Freespace 1 or 2. Especially 2. You insult the glorious Freespace games in my presence I'll bring down such a Shivan-class beating you'll experience nothing but Freespace as you lie in a coma the rest of your life. =P

Half Life 2, especially episode 2. Also both Left 4 Dead's. One friend said he didn't want to get them because they sounded generic and boring and just like any other FPS, (he hadn't actually played), I was trying to convince him otherwise, because they SOUND generic and boring whenever I describe them...

Had a quick scan through the first few pages and failed to my spot my own first, true love...

...Elite.

I'm guessing that a lot of you here aren't even old enough to know of its existence but believe me that giant handled joystick and wireframe graphics kept this kid occupied for ooh something like a billion hours. It's not even a case of having to defend it because everyone I've ever met that played it, loved it.

The first Homeworld. It was the first video game which I really got into, and the 3rd mission (you know the one I'm talking about), really defined what gaming could do as a sort of emotional medium. Plus, even though it's now ancient, the levels (well, the space backgrounds) are GORGEOUS

Mass Effect 2 and MGS3. Excellent stories, narrative and characters. Plus, some of the best gameplay out there to boot.
