What games really affected you emotionally?

The most recent one was World In Conflict. The game tries very hard to convey the shock of America being invaded. But what did it for me was that the initial invasion takes place in Seattle - my hometown.

There is the humorous side - I can attempt to use my knowledge of local geography to my advantage. But now that I shift to the suburbs where I grew up, I both hope and fear that I will recognize buildings and streets aside from the Kingdome or the Space Needle. I know for a fact that if I have my way, not a single Russian is going to make it out of Washington State alive.

Geez... Uhm... Well, the first game that really got me emotionally was Silent Hill. I was freaking out every few minutes. That's still one of my top 10 games all consolers should play.

Other games: FFT, Igot really attached to the story, and was pissed everytime Ramza was betrayed, every time an important story member died, etc.

And finally, the original Fatal Frame. Fuck. Just fuck. Silent Hill freakout times 10. A great game for anyone who loves a good creapy game.

First to say it here:

Torment.

Pretty much the whole game is about regret. That's very hard to do but I think the team pulled it off -- as you play you're exploring yourself and learning to hate your past actions.

Kotor, both the major plot twist (That threw me totally of balance, making me turly feel like i was the charcater.) and when i redeemed Bastilla, (she was the first video game character i truly sympathized with.)

Daikatana I have never felt so truely disgusted before. I got the game Sacrifice free with my motherboard, I'd never heard of it before but it sucked me right in and had me hooked right until the last moment.

If your looking for an incredibly emotional story with some of the most heartwrenching moments, check out Lost Odyssey. omg that part on disc 1 (you know which one) made me- er ummm- "nearly" made me cry. I dont cry though im too manly for that kind of thing.

Grim Fandango, the ending. I was so upset because i never wanted it to end.
Yeah, I felt the same. But that's the sign of a good story, and Grim Fandango has one of the best (in video gaming).

Final Fantasy VII is a no-brainer of course, and Chrono Trigger also gave me that feeling of not wanting to see it end.

Not gonna lie-- I teared up a bit at the end of Final Fantasy IX.

Also, in Grand Theft Auto IV, when Roman is kidnapped in that warehouse, I remember feeling genuinely pissed off.

KoTOR

When you are playing dark side, and the light side characters decide to take off. Then you order Zalbarr to kill Mission, and he totally sides with you and offs the twillik. Then later he realizes his actions, and you have to put him down like a rabid beast.

I felt so betrayed. He had a life debt to me. How dare that furrball turn on me.

Honestly, I teared up at the end of Final Fantasy X.
The only other games that really hit me were Lost Oddysey and Xenogears.

I've honestly never been "hit" by a game. I mean, I've noticed the parts in a game where it tried to "hit" me, but I never felt the impact.

BioShock. I came away from it thinking about Objectivism and fascism like I hadn't before. No one in BioShock is finger quotes evil. They're just well-intentioned people who were far less advanced than they thought they were, with horrible, horrible consequences do largely to their self-imposed isolation. Granted, the fact that they were arrogant enough to try Ryan's experiment in the first place speaks to their character flaws. But it wasn't like they knew how bad everything was going to get. They were just simple people and it got away from them.

I never felt this way about game characters before. These aren't run-of-the-mill bad guys for the player to kill - they're messed up people who must be stopped, but again, it's nobody's fault, the situation is just out of control. I've never played another game that left that kind of impact.
