Evony is merely annoying because of ad spam. I really would not even include it in this kind of discussion.

You all remember that nasty ol' perving game DOA volleyball. When it first came out my sister got it for her birthday because...well...it looked sort of like a girly game. It was actually fun and we used to play it a fair bit (We found the best parts to be just going to the casino, playing in the pool etc) it seemed pretty innocent to me back then. Years later looking back at it I realize it was nothing more than a sick, disgusting, perverted game made almost intentionally for greasy 14 year olds who love gaming and can't download teh pronz. The way it was marketed it looked like a game for girls to play, not just bouncing pixels for nerds to *Sigh* juggle their joysticks to.

Hey now just because a game has boobage does not mean we should find it offensive. I personally enjoy seeing a pair of HD jubblys bounce up and down on my television (but then again Im a mans man). Its when designers try to hide behind sex appeal I find it offensive, sex does not excuse bad gameplay mechanics, no exceptions.

Pretty much any game where the sex appeal is the main feature.
Or where the premise is just flat-out stupid.
You mean like the DOA series? It's just " Titties, titties, ass, ass, titties, ass, ass, titties," Ahem, sorry.

But yeah, games like DOA or any game that sells itself on the main thought that " Sex sells " makes me ashamed. Both to think that they think I might be a targeted audience and because sex doesn't always sell. Big boobs < awesome story, graphics, so on and so on.

Damn, I went into this thinking Ninja Gaiden. Um...

Resident Evil, 5! They changed Jill into a blonde bimbo for American audiences, and the whole fight with her is nothing but fanservice!
The entire game is nothing but fanservice! Poorly designed fan-service, at that. Why can't I stop playing it? *sobs*

Have you played Kingdom Hearts? Despite the retarded-on-paper concept, it's actually fun and well pulled off.

Seriously there are far more long running franchises that are more or less the same game repeated worse than Zelda. I will never ever understand this argument, even though I know it is an opinion.
I agree. That argument about Zelda always annoyed me too.

If I were japanese, I'd definately say JRPG's. I'd be embarrassed to say that my ethnicity is located within the achronism that represents such a terribly rotten genre. I have to say, I think JRPG's will someday be punishable to death, and death at the hands of a blue-haired, obnoxiously large sword-wielding, 12 year old boy.
You're using a pretty broad brush there. I'm sure there are some JRPGs out there that don't follow all the annoying trends.
As i'm sure there are first person shooters that don't have space marines, but the point is this. There are soooo many JRPG's with the same exact qualities that I wouldn't even know where to start if ever I did (by some miracle of God) get into them. Whenever a new one comes out, i feel the same old feeling of deja vu and realize that I've seen that same thing a billion times.
Dude, stop confusing "All JRPGs" with "Final Fantasy 7". It's actually a diverse genre. Ever heard of Valkyria Chronicles and Okami?

Yes actually I have played through the second kingdom hearts. It was very fun just really corny at times.

I would have to say, Leisure suit Larry?

I've never played any of them (they look stupid) and the whole point is to try and 'Score'. Mini-games (to try and score). Urinating on stuff. Etc.

The whole concept of it makes me ashamed to have a penis...

Its not really the violence that bothers me. I mean, its a simple logic - The company makes a bloody game where the sole purpose is to kill stuff, and it names the game properly (name must include : army, war, death, blood, kill). You get what you expect.

But seriously, fanservice really annoys me, especially in anime. Adding sex to enrich the story is ok (Indigo prophecy is the only game that comes to mind), but adding oversized jiggly tits is just ridiculous. Seriously, what kind of audience are they targeting?
In X-blades, the main character is practically nude. Ok, it was interesting for about 30 seconds, after which I stopped paying attention to it, and started killing enemies. After an hour I said to myself - this is just stupid.

Rofl. I'm never the target audience. Who, when making COD, thought, "Hey! Chicks would totally dig this!"

I searched Valkaria Chronicles on google images (go on and do it, I dare you) and I was actually shocked at what I saw.

Off the top of my head... Lesiure Suit Larry?

I can't really think of much else, I'm not really insulted by it. Gears of war and Halo, for being generic and dull, but I'd hardly say I'm insulted. I don't like JRPGs at all, I positively loathe them; they cause me to wonder why people would enjoy them, but I'm not really the core target audience and once again, I'm not really insulted.

I'm actually not a hater of JRPG's. At times, I've really wanted to give them a chance. I gave a go at Star Ocean a couple years ago and I wanted to get into it, but simply couldn't. I tried Radiata Stories or something like that, not long ago at a friends house. They don't appeal to me, though they may appeal to someone else quite easily.

My problems with JRPGs: They aren't inviting. Aside from the CG's which end up being huge disappointments, nothing draws me in. I don't know where to start. I probably didn't choose the best games to start playing, but that's because I didn't even know where to look. And last, I can't really see a difference between any of them. Really, once you've played one, you've played them all, which can also be said for FPS's I suppose.

If someone can tell me a JRPG with these qualities I will play it, no question:
-real-time combat (but not a button masher)
-great story, that's not conveluted or overboard.
-characters that break the Japanese archetypes and are original.
-Not impossibly complex to play, but hard enough to take practice.
-Challenging difficulty, but not frustrating.
-good action, strong emotion, and decent writing/translation.

Is there such a JRPG? Cause I'll play it.

Have you ever played, seen, or heard of a game that made you feel insulted to be the target audience? For example, Ninja Gaiden really pisses me off, because I feel like they think I'll buy the game simply because it full of blood, gore, and of course, ridiculously huge tits.
EDIT: Also, please state why. Don't just say the name of the game.
But you are a fan yes?
No.
