Yeah the stealth was well done... I loved how on that Nazi level if you explored the level you could find a way to get under the traintracks and skip all the shooting. Very cool.imperialreign said:Yeah, picked up Metro the day it was released . . . I had been watching that title for the last 4 years. It's good, in terms of story and such . . . a nice breath of fresh air amidst all the other FPSes that have come out this year. But, the AI is rather weak at times (although stealth works great).
Yep, between "Frontline" and "Black Station" - I really enjoyed playing a title where stealth was operable anf fun again. It's been ages.MiracleOfSound said:Yeah the stealth was well done... I'd guess people got confused because certain parts of the game were designed for stealth only and they weren't paying attention to when they should be going loud.imperialreign said:Yep, between "Frontline" and "Black Station" - I really enjoyed playing a title where stealth was operable anf fun again. But, at the same time, I've seen a lot of players complaining that stealth is broken in Metro (I've also seen a lot of people say the same about STALKER) . . . personally, I think it's too many people that aren't accustomed to how to properly play stealthy.
Don't worry, it wasn't MGS4 that ruined Alpha Protocol, it was Obsidian.DustyDrB said:I'm playing Alpha Protocol right now, and am trying to be stealthy.
A week ago I was playing Metal Gear Solid 4. I won't say the latter has ruined the former, but stealth feels super-limited in Alpha Protocol to me right now.
I agree, though I don't find fallout 3 to be THAT different to NV (but NV improved it in many many ways), Im just a little confused with the whole Obsidian Bethedesa thingSimuLord said:With everything plus the kitchen sink that Obsidian added into New Vegas, Fallout 3 really looks and plays like a dated game.
Which, oddly enough, is how I felt about Fallout 3 and Oblivion.
They're related very tangentially, as in Bethesda pretty much supplied Obsidian with the game engine and a whole pile of art assets left over from Fallout 3, sparing Obsidian a LOT of development time and their artists a lot of work, since so much of FO3's stuff could simply be recycled.Vault101 said:I agree, though I don't find fallout 3 to be THAT different to NV (but NV improved it in many many ways), Im just a little confused with the whole Obsidian Bethedesa thingSimuLord said:With everything plus the kitchen sink that Obsidian added into New Vegas, Fallout 3 really looks and plays like a dated game.

so Bethedesa did fallout 3 yes? but Obsidian did Fallout NV? are thease two companies related in any way?
ah ok thanks! also didn't obsidian do KOTOR 2? Im not sureSimuLord said:They're related very tangentially, as in Bethesda pretty much supplied Obsidian with the game engine and a whole pile of art assets left over from Fallout 3, sparing Obsidian a LOT of development time and their artists a lot of work, since so much of FO3's stuff could simply be recycled.Vault101 said:I agree, though I don't find fallout 3 to be THAT different to NV (but NV improved it in many many ways), Im just a little confused with the whole Obsidian Bethedesa thingSimuLord said:With everything plus the kitchen sink that Obsidian added into New Vegas, Fallout 3 really looks and plays like a dated game.

Bethesda, of course, published New Vegas, so there's that.
But beyond that, they're two different corporate animals, although Obsidian's comprised of a lot of the guys from Black Isle who created Fallout in the first place 13 years ago. Most of the New Vegas team worked on Fallout 1 and 2.
All of this and more is why the Timespitters series ruined FPS for the most partSoviet Heavy said:Nothing beats Shotgun wielding Monkeys fighting aliens and steampunk robots on custom made maps. THIS IS THE REASON MOST FPSES BORE ME. THIS IS WHY I CANT FIND COD THE MESSIAH THAT OTHERS DO.
imperialreign said:STALKER, FEAR and Thief have absolutely ruined FPSes for me. The only reason I really purchase new titles is for the multiplayer, and even then, I won't purchase them without my friends recommendations.
I love brilliant AI. I love fights to be more of a challenge because the AI are trying to "out smart" you. I'm sick of these run&gun FPSes that keep coming out, that are boringly easy even on the hardest difficulty setting.
