Fatal Frame 2 for sure. God I never wanna play that game again!
You should see some of the 4pp videos on that, they just about sh*t themselves and scream like little girls whenever they play it.

Fallout 3. Strange I know, but there's something creepy about hearing giant scorpions of crazed robots footsteps behind you. The game itself is only midly scary, the DLCs have some freaky shit. Those abominations in MS:Zeta have a look that is strangely, eerily human, but something less, something...more. And Point Lookout? It's just...too quiet, I still can't play the Punga part at night.
I totally agree with the Point Lookout part. When you're going on your crazy trip I was freaking out a little bit. Have yet to play MS: Zeta though; i was going to start it tonight.

Penumbra is probably the most recent game to scare me, or Minecraft as sad as that is. Spiders are scary, seriously.

Other good horror memories I've got? I'd say Ravenholm at about 15. The Remake of Resident Evil for game cube when a friend came over and we played it in the middle of the night with the lights off.

I hear ya there. There I am, strolling merrily along when i hear some distorted grunts and snaps, I turn around and *jumps* How the fuck did I miss that?!

This one is kinda esoteric, The Neverhood. The whole game has this weird creepy soundtrack to it, and you go through the whole game not seeing anyone. So the few monsters you encounter have that "Oh shit!" feel.

But those are just things that make me jump. Nothing from media (Games and Movies) has ever really scared me. At least not since i turned ten.

Fatal Frame 2. Watch the first couple of seconds. Funny:

For me it's Silent Hill 1. Silent Hill 2 is great and 3 and 4 aren't too bad.:

This is a 'scary' games thread and no one has mentioned Project Zero/Fatal Frame? For SHAME!

I still get freaked out playing Fatal Frame 2. The original has more jump-out scares but the second is the QUEEN of atmospheric games. (The king is still Silent Hill 2.)
There it is! I was wondering how long it would take for somebody to mention this.
I will tell you without shame, that the "peeping child" ghost in Fatal Frame 2 made it the only piece of media that ever made me scream like a ***** and run out of the room (but not before taking a sweet photo!)

Doom 3, first few five ten every time I've played it. I hate jumpy scares.

Also, F.E.A.R 2, that entire school level...

Silent hill 4 as a concept was terrifying. Imagine being trapped ina room and the only way to get out is to crawl through a random dark hole in the wall mind you this hole leads to a world filled with monsters. You also have to go back through the hole several times.

The Hospital Level in Codemned 2... Hospitals are creepy enough.
I went to a hospital once. It wasn't creepy until they pulled out the 5-foot long needle. Guess where they stabbed it. To solve the pain in my jaw. Hint: It wasn't my jaw. Thought I guess that would've been scary as all fuck by comparison...

On topic, the only time I've ever been scared by a game I was playing was... Monster Hunter Freedom Unite. Basically, there are boar like things called Bullfango. They charge at you and send you flying. I jump down, kill one with my giant doom sword.
"Huh. That was easy. Guess 760 attack is worth the damage. No minor enemy can beat me now, *****!.. Hold on, wasn't there another bullfango in this area--"
*Ninja Gaiden 2'd*
"HOLY SHIT OH MY GOD WHAT THE FU... Can't... Say I didn't deserve that. You win this round, Murphy. You win this round."

In fact, getting NG2'd in any game generally scares the shit out of me. I bet it does a lot of other people too. You see, this is why I don't play FPSs!

Come to think of it, there was a game I didn't play, but I watched a Let's Play, and that... Thing still scared the crap out of me.
Jimmy? Jimmy?! Where's my Jimmy?! [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WjGD7IzDN8E]
(Okay, well, the freak of awful writing crossed with no understanding of science doesn't show up until episode 4, but still... Banballow must work for the Spanish Inquisition.)

YES!
Penumbra is awesome. I have yet to finish because I'm terrible at the combat, but I'd recommend it to anyone. That F**king giant leech still makes me jump. I know it's there, but every time...

FEAR and FEAR 2 are two of my favorite shooters. Some bits startled me, but honestly I enjoyed every second of Alma screwing with my head.

The first time I played fallout 3 in the sewers, hearing the feral gouls trying to find you when you have no idea where they are.

1. Going through Ravenholm my first time at age 14. Sitting in a room in a lake house I had never been to before, alone, at night.
That shit scared the hell out of me and I really don't know why. Plus this. The first time I came across this cute little guy was my first time underground...which was scary enough in itself. I was near the very end of the tunnel to the exit, and I hear some weird sound behind me. I turn around and get pulled towards him...shooting (and screaming inside) I somehow made it out of there alive.

Me too, I'm kind of a sucker for those jump scares.
Ever played Doom 3? It's pretty much Jump Scare 3D Adventure.
What with you the fact that you have to almost always carry a flashlight around without duel wielding it with a pistol.
Doom 3 co op mod provides a fun way around that... One person shooting and the other doing lighting!

Games that scared me include Silent Hill 2, in the hospital basement, Forbidden Siren in, well all of it, and S.T.A.L.K.E.R, particularly the underground labs. And my special mention goes to Jurassic park on the SNES, for the T-Rex chase*. The music alone terrified me.

*Think the 'Rambi Rumble' level from DKC2 on steroids.

Half Life 2: Episode 2 in the ant-lion burrows. I'm terrible at shooters, and when you combine that lack of coordination with being chased by the Hive Guardian in cramped tunnels..
I just saved and turned the damn thing off.
