Paradise Falls in Fallout 3. It doesn't even really scare me, it just...disturbs me. I can't even approach it without feeling uneasy.

Metroid Fusion. Thinking of the SA-X lurking somewhere in that space station, waiting to attack me kind of creeped me out. It didn't help that my only contact was an unfeeling computer. Everything kept failing in the station. That game scared me.

In oblivion when ever you're woken up earlier by someone, or when an enemy sneaks up on you.

In Metroid Prime 3 when you first meet the metroids. [possible spoiler]

You have to deactivate the power supply after walking by at least 30 tanks of Metroids. Than they rush out and you can see them swarming on the other side of the glass walls, also when they grab onto you you can see their pinchers and your HUD turns to static. The music is scary too.
Aww I remember watching my brother run throught aht bit, it scared me too and I wasn't even playing. Things scare me much more when I'm actually playing.

The Mother Sheegoth in Metroid Prime made me stop playing the game for like a year or so. Then it was wimpy and I killed it without losing even a quarter of my health. I was annoyed to say the least.

I some how got really freaked out by this part of Luigi's mansion. The game builds the suspense just right and then startles you at just the right time.

Thief.

Cathedral. Return to.

When the building started talking to me, I turned the game OFF.

Dunno if it really scared me, but it definately creeped me out...

In Final Fantasy VII when you've infiltrated the Shinra Corporations headquarters there's a part after you've escaped from the cells where you follow a trail of blood from Jenovas "cell" that leads upwards through the building. This combined with all the dead bodies that litter every floor and the disturbingly creepy music actually had me genuinely creeped out!

(And I played it the first time when I was 18!)

Anyway, what really unnerved me in a game was Icarus from Deus Ex. Namely, 'his' voice. The first time you hear of him is when checking your e-mail. You'll notice a new message and it reads like this:

Code:
ICARUS IS LOOKING FOR YOU
__ICARUS IS LOOKING FOR YOU
____ICARUS IS LOOKING FOR YOU
______ICARUS IS LOOKING FOR YOU
________ICARUS IS LOOKING FOR YOU
__________ICARUS IS LOOKING FOR YOU
____________ICARUS IS LOOKING FOR YOU
______________ICARUS IS LOOKING FOR YOU
A good chunk of time later (1-2 hours) you hear him sending you a voice message saying "I now have full access to your systems" in one of the most horrifying voices I've ever heard. After that, you don't hear a peep from him. Not a single message after that, and nothing else for a while. 40 minutes or later or so, if you check your in-game email again, you'll see a message called "READ ME". The message reads:

Code:
ICARUS FOUND YOU!!!
 __ICARUS FOUND YOU!!!
 ____ICARUS FOUND YOU!!!
 ______ICARUS FOUND YOU!!!
 ________ICARUS FOUND YOU!!!
 __________ICARUS FOUND YOU!!!
 ____________ICARUS FOUND YOU!!!
 ______________ICARUS FOUND YOU!!!
 ________________ICARUS FOUND YOU!!!
_________________RUN WHILE YOU CAN!!!
_______________RUN WHILE YOU CAN!!!
_____________RUN WHILE YOU CAN!!!
___________RUN WHILE YOU CAN!!!
_________RUN WHILE YOU CAN!!!
_______RUN WHILE YOU CAN!!!
_____RUN WHILE YOU CAN!!!
___RUN WHILE YOU CAN!!!
__RUN WHILE YOU CAN!!!
RUN WHILE YOU CAN!!!
As incredible as Deus Ex is, I always hesitate before playing it just because of that voice..../shudder. As an aside, I guarantee that anybody who's played Deus Ex and is just skimming this thread will instantly know what my post is talking about just from the formatting of the e-mail messages.

The first time I heard that voice was at like 2 AM, and in the game you're crawling around in some sewers at night. It took a bit of willpower to not shit my pants.
In retrospect, Icarus kinda looks like Dog from HL2.

Mirror's Edge is the scariest game ever... No really, it is.

Get chased by the Runner-Cops is probably the scariest moment in any game, in my opinion.

I get really scared when travelling through Oblivion's caves, mines and forts. The first time Lucien Lachance from the Dark Brotherhood scared the crap out of me, too. I was too busy wondering why my character was waking up after only an hour's sleep, when the camera suddenly zoomed in on him, and I actually yelled.
whenever i play the game sneakily, it is quite chilling.
of course then i found the way to make weapons that kill anything and that kinda took away from the scariness...
Yeah, the problem with Oblivion is once you reach level 20, you can't die.
i managed it... i tried to rambo the mission where you infiltrate lake arrius... after they took away all my stuff X_X

My first encounter with a Deathclaw in Fallout 3 was a one I most likely will not forget...
i was level 5 fighting 3 raiders then all of the sudden they start shooting an angle away from me. I turn around and right there it stuck at me killing me. I heard the raiders shout victory cries and then well screams of pain

Giygas, the last boss from Earthbound definitely creeped me out.
The design was terrifying (embryo?!!), the music was pretty unnerving and he was hard to beat, too.
Glad, I don't have to go there again.

GAAAH!!! The horrible, horrible memories!!!

No, but that was just the first time, when I didn't know what to expect...

Now that I've finished that part and know that the only thing waiting for me on top is that pansy Rufus, it's not creepy anymore... Still an excellent piece of music though!

come the second mission you had to apprehend a serial killer after its believed he has a girl kept in his house, the briefing doesnt bode well for the mission as it describes in detail what he does to the girls he takes, on to the mission i decided to take the stealthy route and go through the garage the garage sets is a indication that the rest of this mission isnt going to be too pleasant for you, glass cages filled with dead rats were piled high in this room, i go through a door and break into his bedroom which is plastered with newspapers stating his killings and pictures of the ones he killed and to quote the black guy in the squad "holy shit man ive got a bad feeling about this", you then go into the room adjoined where there are more newspaper clipping s on the walls and theres mannequins and papier mache masks hanging from the cieling, and on a filthy bed is a woman restrained wearing what seems to be a porcelaine mask though it isnt the one your looking for, you then have to carry on into what seems like a makeshift tunnel into a iron box underground, as soon as you go through into the iron room you see the killer holding a shotgun to the head of the crying woman whos covered in blood and filth, i didnt kill the serial killer though i was doing shit by the books.

The only thing that made this worse was the fact his mother who was upstairs when the killings had happened kept repeating hes a good boy hed never hurt a fly. that mission scared me more than any horror game has in the last few years, probably cos murderers are real and monsters arent and that scenario has probably happened somewhere.

So what games that werent supposed to be scary scared the beslubber out of you.
I'm with you on that one, that level scared the shit out of me, no matter how many times I played it.

You are not the only person, Final Fantasy VII also scared the crap out of me. I hate the "Trail of Blood" part. I had trouble goin in the basemnet after that one. And the Part in Nibelheim when you think your town has burned down, and you go there, and there are all the creepy people in black capes. Like, HOLY SHIT. And then you go in the mansion. That was scary. Oh, and another thing that scared me is when my game would freeze up. I would get so scared that it was going to crash and that I would lose my progress.
I've also had some scary moments in Oblivion. ;)
