I'm really struggling with Alpha Protocol. I picked it up before Christmas because I missed it when it came out. Now, I normally love Obsidian's offerings, but after the poor tutorial section with clunky controls, the crappy character customisation and offensive background choices I gave up before even getting in to the actual game. It's still sitting on my desk, I suppose I might give it another go some day.

(I have a big office desk with my gaming PC on, cluttered with music stuff, sheet music books and game boxes. Lots of rooms for "I'll play it eventually" titles on there!)
It's definitely worth going at it again. Alpha Protocol is a really good game. I got it for $3 ages back, and is probably one of the most undercosted things I've ever bought.

Half-Life 2. I hear all the time about how fantastic it is and how innovative it is and how bloody good the writing is.

I got a half-baked dystopian plot with a health counter and those bloody cutscenes where you can move around.
I hate those cutscenes. Innovation is the addition of regenerating health instead of 'hey guys, you still have to sit through cutscenes, but now you can wander about and try to get the best camera angle'.
Seriously. Also. Super-accurate hipfire just made combat boring. I know aiming down the sights is a CoD thing, but don't let me headshot some guy from miles away without putting SOME effort into it.

Half-Life 2: Considering I loved the original, the second game bored me, especially having played Halo 3 years prior. It was a step backwards for FPSers as far as I was concerned and I was actually relieved that the old school designed FPSers pretty much died with that game.
You shut your lying whore mouth and you NEVER OPEN IT AGAIN! EVERYONE loves half life 2, and they RIGHTLY revere it as a CLASSIC! Anyone who DOESN'T is obviously a TERRORIST who has declared WAR on PEACE, LOVE, and HAPPINESS!

As for me, I'd have to say Sins of a Solar Empire. I thought I could win through culture and economics but... nope.avi

It always boiled down to spending all your cash on increasing fleet size>number of capital ships>Crashing the metal/crystal market before your enemy did.

but i dont like half life 2....at all..

OT: GTA 4, love the predecessors, loved the screen shots, loved the gameplay trailers...HATED the game

Skyrim. I was enjoying it at first but I got bored really quickly, now I can't even play it for more than 20 mins before I have to do something else.
So glad this is not just me.
I'm pretty sure once the novelty and the hype dies in, more people will feel this way about Skyrim. I know I do.

In theory this should've been the game that finally got me into the Elder Scrolls series, which I've never liked that much. It improves on Oblivion in just about every way. It's more user-friendly, looks nicer, gives you more stuff to make you feel like you're a regular citizen if that's what you want, has less bugs (apparently), everything about character customization is simple and elegant, and so on.

For a while I thought that what soured it for me was the lack of focus, the clichéd high fantasy setting, the terrible dialogues or the reliance on old design techniques to convey narrative (it's 2011 and I'm getting books to read on-screen if I want to know more about the gameworld? C'mon), but after some thought I know what really bothers me: gameplay, specially the combat. After playing Demon's/Dark Souls, the combat in Skyrim feels 10 years old and clunky as all hell. 10 hours in I couldn't endure it anymore.

Any of the modern day Battlefield games. I'm a big fan of shooters from the old to the new and from the realistic to the ridiculous, but I had to really force myself to finish Bad Company 2. BC and 3 I just cannot keep any interest in.

Half-Life 2 (and 1) for me. My friends are all big Half-Life fanboys, and I've played a fair amount of the campaigns, but its just not my thing. I don't know why, though: the story is really cool to me (especially the way its delivered), the Gravity Gun is wonderful, and the design is beautiful. But just the physical act of playing the game does not excite me. I don't know. Guess its the kind of thing I can respect as great game design without wanting to play myself.

Well games i should love but don't care about? Deus ex HR: comes imediately to mind. I played it and finished it , on hard mode no less for my first play through and found it lacking in so many aspects , i was actually curious to see why people loved it so much . The funny thing is , i loved alpha protocol and deus ex HR, is basically Alpha protocol in first person.

You just don't care about for some reason? Now, I don't mean super popular games that if you don't like people look at your like you're weird.

I mean games that have stuff in it that make it seem like on paper it's a game you would really enjoy, but when you actually play it you just can't get into it.

Like for me right now it's Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. On paper, I should be dancing with joy over this game. It's probably the only video game in the history of forever that has the uniqueness of having my favorite comic book character and my favorite video game character together in the same title (She-Hulk and Phoenix Wright for anyone who cares for additional details)

But for some reason I just can't bring myself to really care that much about UMvC3. I mean yeah, I'll probably get it used down the line (used only because I'm mad at Capcom for not bringing over AAI2 and I don't want to support what they've been doing with fighting games lately)

So what's a game that on paper has stuff that really appeals to you, but when it comes to the game itself you feel somewhat negatively towards?
Battlefield 3.

"Oh, it's so much more different than COD! It's a brand new experience for fps fans!"

I played through the campaign and got so frustrated at the stupidity of the story, characterization, and gameplay in general.

But, of course, none of it matters because of the mp (meaning 1/2 of my $60 just didn't matter apparently), which I found well-made, but not very fun at all.

Chrono Trigger...

Why? Well, the characters and story were uninteresting and the gameplay was... well, I just didn't like it. I LOVE JRPGs, yet I couldn't get into this, what is probably the most acclaimed one of all time.

The Witcher 2. It is an RPG with monsters and magic and all that good stuff, with an intriguing storyline. Or at least I think it has an intriguing storyline. Honestly I can`t figure it out, what with jumping back in time and everyone sounding the same and the game pushing me along like it really doesn`t want me to look around. I really liked the book, but the game leaves much to be desired.

Also Skyrim. It`s kind of a love-hate relationship. The ending of the main questline kind of came upon me suddenly, and after it was over I was all like "Uh... it's over?" You can still wander around and do stuff, but it kind of feels stale and uninteresting. And there's only so many times you can replay the game, since nothing ever changes. And when you are the Thieves Guild Master, the Dark Brotherhood Listener, the Arch-Mage, and the Dragonborn, listening to some guard threatening to cut off your hand if she finds it in your pocket really doesn't have the same impact it used to. Especially since you've already taken everything out of your pockets and she's walking around with no clothes or weapons because your Pickpocket is maxed out.

The Old Republic. Then again, I haven't actually played it yet. EA is currently investigating me for fraud because I mistyped my address. (Once, mind you. Not the standard three shots.) It looks like it'll be great but EA seems determined to keep me from it.

Not a good first impression in my books, Origin.

Edit: Oops, forgot to take the OT seriously. Hmmm probably Borderlands. I love shooters that are just... shooters. I loved my first couple hours of Borderlands too. The weapon customization, the crazy characters, the endless supply of baddies. I guess it's too slow for my taste. I don't really like grinding to get to the story. I don't mind grinding by any means. I love me some hours in Pokemon grass, knee deep in the brush with my machete and Charmander. But Borderlands grinding is just so... ish. It's not bad, per se. I like it way more that WoW, but it's just not as fulfilling. Oh well.

<font color=red> Ratchet and Clank - Future: Don't get me wrong, I loved these games. But that's the problem. I just loved them. It's unacceptable! After completing these games, I just felt no reason compelling me to spend any more time with them. There's no replay value. The precessing series (Ps2) didn't have any replay value either, but that was no obstacle while continuing to beat each game multiple times. I guess it sounds ungrateful to insist that something I love so much should be able to produce a feeling greater than what it gave me, but I felt that the older games were just better at conveying my interest away from everything else. Escapism, to say.
I was just thinking that yesterday as I played through Tools of Destruction. I mean, I remember buying the original R&C games (For the PS2) and loving them! I loved the way the bolts sounded when you collected them, I loved the mini-missions, the odd characters, the non-canon storyline and the thin plot. But now...as I play through ToD, I find myself not caring that much. Mind you, I finished the previous PS2 entries completely. But now...I just don't care. I'll play them just as a way to kill time.

Another game? Skyrim. I love RPGs. I love Dragon Age. People could argue Skyrim is a thousands times better than DA and that might be true. But I kinda find Skyrim/the Elder Scrolls series so boring. I;ll play it for a while just for kicks and then I'll quickly give up.

The Old Republic too. I love Star Wars and a MMO based off Star Wars sounds like a heaven send. But I just don't wanna get into it. It just seems too overwhelming and too unrelated to the story. Yeah, yeah, I know this might not be the case. But that's how *I* feel.

The majority of the Zelda games. I'll play the 64 ones and Skyward Sword. But other than that, I'm not interested in playing most of them, especially the NES and SNES ones. It's odd because I grew up with a NES and a SNES. But they just seem kinda boring.

Half Life 2. Honestly? Because everyone keeps raving about it. But then I played it and...it was alright. I'm playing it because I already started playing it. But it's kinda boring, for the most part.

To summarize some others:

-Super Mario RPG: It moved too slow for me. Bored me quite fast.
-Mass Effect: I just didn't fall in love with it as much as I did for Dragon Age. And I live FPS and RPGs and space.
-Dead Island: Like L4D with Dead Rising's weaponry. Sounds good. Doesn't play as good.
-Saints Row: I loved the PS2's GTAs. I heat those are better. Yet...eh. While we're at it...
-GTA4: It doesn't incite me to explore this sandbox game as much as, let's say, San Andreas did.
-Final Fantasy Tactics, Crystal Chronicles/Bearers and Online: I LOVE FF with a burning passion. I love it so much I can forgive FFXIII and I'm ready to buy FFXIII-2's Collector's Edition. But I just don't like the story/gameplay mechanics of those games. And I'm ashamed of it.

Age of Empires 3. I wish I could like it-it's like the same as AgeII, but with all races different and epic huge buildings that clog up your screen, with a UI that's either too big or too tiny to select.
And there's still no attack towards command. With everything clogging up space, it pisses me off. (I just tried the demo, so...)

Most Zelda Titles. I like Link, and I like the adventure and the items and the zip-zop-zuppidy-bop, but I just can't get myself playing them. I find the gameplay good, but I just never feel like playing them, even when I want to.

Also, Half-Life 2. It felt rather dull to me, as the enemies were a bit dull in the brain and I could just charge with my SMG or drive through another long vehicle section. I do find the characters and gravity gun good, though.

Splinter Cell Franchise, I don't know why but I could never get into the stealth in this game as much as I did with Hitman. Also, Fallout: New Vegas considering that Fallout 3 is one of my favorite games New Vegas was so much of a clone I actually ended up hating it.

Any Valve game. They get so much praise and I think I should feel the same way and, with the slight exception of Portal, I can't play them. Tf2 is actually one of my least favourite games ever made.

Skyrim and SW:TOR.

I tried Skyrim and quit after about ten minutes because feeling like I'm just flailing away and mashing buttons isn't my preferred play style. I know I'm supposed to think of it as the god of all gaming, but...meh.

As for TOR...I just don't give a damn about Star Wars and have enough MMOs to pay for, thankyouverymuch.

Knights in the Nightmare. I really enjoy the way the developers (who also made Riviera: The Promised Land, and Yggdra Union, two other games, you've likely never heard of) try to add something new to whatever they develop, and the game is well presented and interesting, but the unnecessarily restrictive movement of the characters combined with the almost necessity of a guide to make sure you don't miss anything ended up being a turn off.

Definitely Alpha Protocol. On paper, it looked like just the inventive dose of new IP the industry would truly benefit from.

And then I played it.

Titan Quest. I usually like dungeon crawl type games, and this one was pretty, but it turned out to be fill backpack, jump to town, sell junk, jump back to field, refill backpack...

X3. Love space conquest, but this wasn't really a time sink, not even a time waster, it was more of a Leave It Running and Come Back Later.

Master of Orion III. I like complexity. But it turned out to be a recursive But First Do This subroutine.
