As a Final Fantasy fan, I'd say our franchise pretty much wins this one. Not only due certain outcasts hate the mass, no, that's not even true, there are just factions. We all hate each other for one reason or the other. Thankfully, unless you're in the "The First Six Were Better" faction***, most of this has to do with gameplay and storytelling. For example, fans of the more Westernized FFXII have often outright despised the fact that my personal favorite is Final Fantasy VIII, which they regard as a repetitive piece of shit whose main objective is to bore the player, and then annoy them with the often-intentionally annoying characters (It's called deconstruction, folks). This is an accusation that I fly right back in their faces, since XII has about as much player pariticipation in it's nobattlethemeforyou (seriously, wtf) mock-up of WoW as a typical dungeon crawler, and characters with less development stretched over longer periods than Duke Nukem Forever.

I'm sorry, but this isn't even a debate: Final Fantasy wins.

***Also known as the "VI was the best" faction, but also often as the "IV was the best" faction, who typically acuse the fans of later titles to be easilly-impressed Japanophilic anime fanboys who love nothing more than a well-greased phallus inserted up their impossibly tight assholes. This is simply not the case.

All of them. I think the main probalem is for alot of people all their views are polarised between "B3sT G4ME EVAR!1!" or ragging on it. I figure these are the same sort of gamers who gloat obnoxiously when they're winning and chide newplayers, and scream like spoiled children when they lose. That and people who whine on developers message boards about some completely inconsequential thing that only matters to them and makes little or no sense for a competent developer to devote resources too.

Don't get me wrong I love the variety of the series and enjoy debating personal pros and cons of different mechanics and characters. It's the ones who take it too far, like only they could possibly have the correct idea.

Tidus might not be your thing, but I didn't mind him so much. Cause for me he redeemed himself by fulfilling a particular combat niche. All these issues are subjective and debatable.

EXCEPT VAAN. VAAN MUST DIE. PAINFULLY. TWICE. *ahem* though if you like him, that's cool too.
I agree with you! Although there are FF games I'm not fans of, at least they do TRY something new each time. I didn't mind Tidus either!

But yes, Vaan. Or if not kill him, make him put on a shirt or something. Cover up some of that tattooed-on looking musculature.
I was really annoyed in Duodecim that he's fun to play, but then I unlocked an outfit where he puts a shirt on and things were much better. He still doesn't hold a candle to Laguna though.

Final Fantasy. The Final Fantasy VII fanboys/girls are so fucking annoying. As a die-hard fan of Final Fantasy I can admit that Sephiroth wasn't that great, Cloud was boring, and VII as a whole wasn't as good as other middle-generation Final Fantasies, and those "OMG SEPHIROTH FTWWW <3<3<3" "OMG CLOUD ISH TEH SECKSH <3<3<3" and "OMG STFU SEPHIROTH HAS WAY MOER PERSUNALITY THAN ENNY OF YOR VILLUNS SO STFU OMG OMG OMG" people annoy the fucking hell out of me. To be perfectly honest, no offence to people who love VII (unless you're one of those people who love VII), I really don't get why VII is so hyped.
Don't get me wrong, I do like VII, just not as much as the other middle-generation ones. I can happily play it as long as I'm not reminded of those people.

This. These people are what's wrong with the Final Fantasy fanbase.

Not the people you were complaining about. You.
I relate the both the quoter, and the quoted, to my post.

YES. Jesus Christ in Heaven, if I hear a cake joke one more time...

FPS gamers are another problem. I'm sure COD and Halo would be hated a lot less if some of their fan base didn't consist of 13 year olds and FPS Dougs. 'Tis a sad predicament.

Yup. We get the cake joke. Now stop.
Y'know, I see way more people complaining about Portal jokes than actual Portal jokes, especially recently.

I understand that I'd get annoying for some people who played the game when it first came out, but I played it years ago and I'm really not that bothered, if it shows that someone is enjoying a great game, I don't see the problem.

Only exception I'll make it at a festival I went to a couple of years back, where they had a texting feature which was displayed on the sides of the stage...almost every ten minutes "THE CAKE IS A LIE" came up, even after 5 days. But then, people shouting 'BUTTSCRATCHER' was far more common, so I was busy being annoyed at that :p.

So yeah, feel free to call someone out on repeating the exact same line that has just been said, or just telling them its a bit old hat...but I don't get where all the hate is coming from for this, as I rarely see it.

Y'know, reading in this thread what FF fans think of each other makes me think it'd be a really good idea to start a Forum that is literally dedicated to having the factions duke it out with each other. THat'd be, if nothing else, fucking hillarious to watch, adn I'd gladly participate.

FFVIII IS DAMN GOOD.

COME AT ME, BRO.

Touhou, for the fans who love Flanderizing the characters. Other than that, I can't yell loudly, since I'm a major Touhou fan. [sub]major[/sub]

I hate sonic fans, they ***** and complain about every little nitpick. Sure they have some reason to be upset, Sonic hasn't exactly been on top of the world. But there have been some decent 3D Sonic games, Sonic Adventure 1 and 2, Sonic Heroes, Sonic Colors, and Sonic Generations looks promising but all Sonic fans keep loin is bitching that there favorite stage wasn't included.

I honestly can't really think of one, Minecrafters ***** and moan about updates and Notch and that, but it's pretty easy to avoid...Bethesda folks moan that game x doesn't match up to game y, usually morrowind, but maybe they're right. Mass Effecters worry about the RPG elements disappearing, but I think they've got good reason to, and that it'd be a damn shame to let those go when it creates a really fun experience. Valvers moan about hats or FTP, which are understandable, and EP3 -- which bugs me as well :p but in a good way.

I guess I'd go with Halo, as a great deal of the fanbase are either outright dicks, being racist or loud and obnoxious or just team killing...but then a lot are friendly and can even spark up some friendly rivalries. The people on this site in particular that like Halo have always seemed pleasant to me, not so much with the people who don't like it.

First of Portal. The Cake is a lie? Oh Really? That joke wasnt even funny when the game was new, it sure as hell hasnt gotten funny since then either, so shush it.

Final Fantasy..every Game. I like the Games, well except 9 and anything after 10 since i havent played those so i cant judge. But the Fanbase and more so the Fanfic Writers can go die somewhere, its like they are trained to be as annoying as possible.

Online Multiplayer Games, all of them. Chances are 99% that whenever you play any game online there is AT LEAST 1 giant asshole around who is simply just there to annoy you and specifically only you for some odd Reason. I think thats some kinda Law in physics or something.

Fallout fans can be absolute dickpistons at times. "BAAAWWW Fallout 3 isn't a true RPG! It's a first-person shooter!" "WAAAAHHH IT ISN'T A PROPER FALLOUT GAME!" "BLABLA BROKEN STEEL RUINED THE GAME" "BETHESDA SUCKS THEY RUINED THE ENTIRE FRANCHISE"

Geez. I'm glad Fallout games aren't multiplayer, I'd hate to be in a virtual room with these types for more than the time it takes to find the quit button...
agreed most definetly, Fallout 3 is not perfect but its an awsome game in its own right

broken steel ruined the game? no it FIXED the game and probably one of the worst endings ever particually if you were (like me) actually emotionally attachted to the events in the game (oh you were good? well heres a slap in the face!)

Lets see...
1. Portal
2. Anyone who plays a multiplayer FPS who is under 18, acts like a gangster, blames their death on something, and most MLG people.
3. People who spend most of their time playing MMORPGs, and then brag about it.
4. Casual Gamers, motion controlled, and people who still follow the 4 game franchises Nintendo has to offer.
5. Any Game Fans that goes to Fox news for their information.
I'm pretty sure that covers everything.

Yeah and on the flipside you have Bethesda fanboys who declare New Vegas to be a crap game solely on the fact that it wasn't made by Bethesda.

I wouldn't say that I love Halo Reach, it's a decent game, but the online community is filled with the most annoying batch of people I've ever met...ditto to COD communities. Stop crying when you die damn it!!

Brotherhood multiplayer has the same people, but there isn't as much crying since dying is just as much a part of the game as playing it.

I agree with the OP about most MegaTen fans. The fans I know like to think that the Persona games are only SMT titles out there and, of course, they like to assume that I'm just as into anime and replacing half your language with broken Japanese as they are.

However, I've always had a problem with obsessive Kingdom Hearts fans. For the most part, they're good games, but they definitely had flaws. Of course, that doesn't stop the fans from hailing the game as perfection, nor does it stop them from whining when Square announces anything that isn't Kingdom Hearts 3.

I swear, Square has some horrible fans, even by video game standards

Dynasty warriors, and Sonic the hedgehog have like the worst possible fans. You'd think they'd at least like these things or appreciate what there given but no they always complain all the time and it just never ends with them they honestly can't be satisfied in any conceivable way even if these games were competent and running on all of there cylinders they would find several things to hate and complain about.
