Assassin's Creed series (Excluding the 1st game, I hated it.)
BioShock
Borderlands
Crysis (Too many graphics whores who call themselves 'fans' and wave their e-penises around about it despite having no real appreciation for the gameplay itself.)
Dead Space
Diablo series
Demon's Souls (Elitist pricks.)
Fable series (Love is a strong word, but it's amusing.)
Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion (Although, 'love' is a strong word. It was decent, and Morrowind/Fallout 3 were far superior.)
Fallout 3
FEAR series
Gears of War series
God of War series
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (Only GTA I liked, but the fans suck.)
Half-Life series (Love is a strong word, but they were fairly entertaining.)
Halo 1 (Hate the sequels.)
Infamous
Kingdom Hearts 1 & 2 (The fans will buy anything these days if it has Kingdom Hearts in the title...)
Mario games
Mass Effect series
Metal Gear Solid series
Prototype
Ratchet & Clank series
Resident Evil series (I like both old and new, but the fans squabble too damn much between each other. Yes, I get it, they turned a Horror series into an Action game, I was surprised too, but it was a good game and it's been 6 years now, shut up already.)
Resistance series
Shadow of the Colossus
Starcraft series
Zelda series

Anything Star Wars related (Although, I only like a few very specific Star Wars games)
Sly Cooper (Primarily because the fans ran the sequels into the ground with their demand for more cinematic crap, easier gameplay, and more boring side characters.)

God, I despise other Shin Megami Tensei fans.
I usually despise JRPGs, but the SMT franchise was always the exception, because it was well written and fun.
But most SMT fans are weaboos or pricks.

Unrelated, but my captcha is witty Coludi.

Touhou, without a doubt. Not ALL of them, of course. It's just that quite a number of them seem to hit a perfect storm of elitism, meme-spamming and intense creepiness. Unfortunate, really.

To be frank, the only games I have ever seen with good fans are (turn based) strategy games. Because they make suggestions, notice obscure bugs (and if the dev won't, often fix them), and generally understand game balance.

Take Frozen Synapse: in the beta, the sniper rifle seemed underpowered at first. It was slow, had a slow tracking speed, narrow FOV, and took a while to fire. The fans immediately realized that they couldn't just increase the fire rate, as that would make it overpowered. So the solution was a wider FOV and a slightly higher tracking speed. Rushing at it with a shotgunner from the nearest cover no longer worked, and the unit became useful again.

I know of no other genre with fans that understand exactly what effects gameplay tweaks will have, and more importantly tend to suggest (exact) changes to tweaks they don't like rather than just complain.

Obviously this tends to apply more to games that are constantly patched, but how often have you read a review that said "the platforming was great, but the combat sucked and here's how to fix it"?

Pretty much any mmorpg game I've played.

Imagine for a moment, if you will.
You looked forward to this for months and the day has finally arrived! You log in and start creating your character. Who are you my toon? Where will you go? What adventures will you have? You tinker and tinker and suddenly BAM there it is, the perfect toon! Name, class, looks it all works perfectly! Interesting but not over the top. Cool but classy.

So you head out into this vast new world just begging to be discovered! Ready for the adventure of your lifetime! Lifelong firendships will be forged! Tearful goodbyes will be had! Steadily but ever so slowly the vail lifts and the very first thing you see is...

14 naked pink haired female elves cybering

But seriously sometimes I feel like, paradoxically, the worst part of any mmo is the other people. The brutality that comes with internet anonymity is for some reason not that big a deal to me in most games. But in mmo's it's such a moodkiller. It's like genuinly trying to be moved by a beautiful movie in a theatre full of rabid monkeys.

If I like a game, then I could give a shit about what the fans are like, unless its a multiplayer game and therefore coerced into interacting with them. And even then if they're obnoxious and ostentatious fuckwits, I always have the mute button available. Problem solved.

Civilization fans like those at Civfanatics are among the most sensitive and elitist I've come across. Nearly any patch made to the game is akin to destroying the future of the franchise and so no one is ever happy.

Topic title really says it all.

Me for example, I love the MegaTen franchise, but I can't stand my fellow fans sometimes. Whether it's the ones who just whine that every game they release isn't Persona 5, the ones who automatically assume everyone who plays the games are just as big an anime watching Japanophile as they are.

I'm sure everyone has at least one series they love where they can't stand the fans. What's yours?
I feel your pain, really.
Actually, i think i might feel everyones pain, because i simply hate fans, yeah i consider myself a fan of the DDR series, but then again, i dont quite defend it or talk about it online or with friends at all, so i guess im no fanboy.

I love Dragon Age (Even 2) and Mass Effect, but I HATE Bioware fans. That's why I never use their forums.
I second this emotion.

And, while this isn't a game, I can't help but say it. Invader Zim fans are fucking horrible. The man behind the series, Jhonen Vasquez, said even he despised his fans. I groan whenever I see someone compare a character to Gir or some sort. A shame, I used to like the show.

The Elder Scrolls. Favorite series of all time, but the most vocal of the fans are the most obnoxiously unpleaseable. They're the hipsters of the gaming industry

TF2. They complain at the drop of hat....I'm not sure this phrase works here.
awwww i dropped my hat. i hate it so much when that happens. i have to pick it up... ya it sucks.

<TF2 fan, and i kinda think we have a reason to complain what with game breaking weapons and such. i don't mind free to play much cuz I've been in the situation where no money can be spared for gaming but valve could at least have given us a more awesome hat, like a big floating cash symbol above our heads.
Well now that you said it there will prolly be a mod. I still don't see an unbalance unless you pick the wrong class against Demoknight. Easy to kill as soldier, sniper, pyro with a shotgun, and Hoovy with the family business.

Portal
Final Fantasy (VI and VII in particular which is weird since those are my favorites)
Kingdom Hearts
Half-Life
Fallout, seriously, I stumbled onto No Muntants Allowed once and the amount of fanboy hate for the new games in the series on that site actually made me swear I would never go back.
Dragon Age
Mass Effect
Castlevania, it's the same problem with Fallout in that fans of the old games and fans of the new games are in an eternal war over which games are the TRUE Castlevania games.
Anything by Nintendo.

Bioware games, Elder Scroll games, any tabletop game. I pretty much hate 80% of my fellow fans in those areas. Anything and everything is an offense to a higher order of things and they love to tell you about it. Half the time I wonder if I am insane because I don't have the same complaints and actually seem to enjoy the games while they act like the games physically violated them.

Pretty much everything but here's the abridged version:

Devil May Cry (Really, devianart?!?!)
Portal (Fuck the Cake)
Dragon Age (2 was NOT that bad, it was bad but it didn't kill the franchise)
Console Gaming in general (Yes, the PC is much better at some things and I wish I had one)
Mass Effect (NOONE CARES ABOUT YOUR TURIAN FANTASIES!!! especially not me.)
All Elder Scrolls games (noone will ever be happy about any changes they make even though Skyrim will be game of the year easily)
Halo (remember what happened when Yahtzee told the truth about 3?)
Castlevania (lords of shadow wasn't a bad game, though it was almost a bold faced God of War copy)
Gears of War (Yes, all the characters are stupid as hell don't defend them)

and the list goes on

Resident Evil fans. I get that the old school games were great but god damn is it a crime they tried something new?
If its not broken....

New IP is a place to try something new, IP that has a formula that works should stick to that formula. Just my opinion of course. Also 9/10 times these changes are made not to enhance the game but to try and bring the game to a wider audience, which usually means diluting the quality of the gameplay in my experience.
Hi. I'm a resident evil fan. I like both the old games and the new games. If you think 4 was a diluted, low quality game because of the massive changes, you have a very strong bias.

Sorry, I should of been clearer, I haven't played any RE games bar about 15 minutes of RE 5. My comments were purely general.

Well, I love Minecraft a crapload, but sometimes the fans are just...
eh.
