when i ordered Assassins Creed from play.com (£10? score!) all my mates took the piss saying i had wasted my money so by the time it arrived i was expecting it to be pants

But when i first learned how to face plant rooftop guards with a hidden dagger i quickly discovered my life was complete

Seriously i think its one of the funnist games ive played ever! Next to worms ofc but everyone knows that game is awesome.

Viva Piñata.
Coming up with random silly names for whatever creature decided to live in my garden was surprisingly good fun.

I was expecting God of War to be a mediocre hack-'n'-slash and was pleasantly surprised at how much effort went into the game.

LEGO Star Wars was another game that I'm not ashamed to say I enjoyed massively, despite having reservations about it.
these plus the original fallout, even tho i only recently got it
still holds up pretty well
also Super Monkey Ball, freakishly addictive
Agh, I loved Super Monkey ball... I put so many hours into that :p

Trace Memory and Myst

Never thought I'd be the one who got into logic/adventure genre but it is addictive! I love them!

Crysis, I bought it just to show off that my laptop could play it, but that game is really fun

Perimeter.

It's an RTS I had never heard of, bought it because I was just curious - never saw it on the shelves since though, and it turns out to be very inovative and different than anything I had yet played in the RTS genre.

Lengthy and (to me) intersting story, unique nanomorphing, but a surprisingly steep learning curve.

I'd say "get it" if you ever find it.

The Sims 2. I despised the first Sims, because my girlfriend couldn't get enough of it - leading to a significant decrease in my wealth, all thanks its ungodly expansion packs being pumped out every few months. On top of that I also didn't like the gameplay much either.
Funnily enough, a few years ago I played The Sims 2 at a friend's house and really enjoyed it! And it was quite enjoyable leading innocent sims into a pool and removing the ladder.

Sometimes the Grim Reaper took a dump in my toilet. Best glitch ever.
The Grim reaper took a shower made breakfast, AND took a dump in my toilet when I died

Damn, I have to say Call of Juarez. Everyone I knew told me that the game sucked but it got me completely hooked! I loved the story, gameplay and even the graphics were good. One of my all-time favorites for the pc.

Bladestorm on the 360. I went in thinking Dynasty Warrior, but was pleasantly surprised by the high tactical demand.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl and The Witcher. Both I had heard of in passing and I bought both on sale for $15-25.

This. Hated it at first, took a bit of forcing myself to get into the groove of it all. Very nice game, and VATS never got old (for me, anyway.)

Plus, my bloke looked like Indiana Jones. :D
Sucks you can't hide in a refrigerator in this game. :p

Uplink was surprisingly funny when you played it yourself. When seeing someone else play it you would fall asleep
