Alien...something. I can't remember what it involved but it was just the film Alien.

I fucking hate those films.
Alien Resurrection? Are you talking about the actual movies themselves? Or the game based of the movies? That would be Alien Breed or something like that.

Megadrive Sonic the hedgehog games. Drowning music.

And the old DOS game, Syndicate.

And DOOM.

I was fine with Abe's Oddysee though.. oddly. Odd because of when saw's chop your mudokon into multiple chunks of flesh flying around the screen.

I remember getting really scared playing the crappy Blair Witch adventure games. I think it was because I thought the movie was real. Give me a break, I was in year 6.

There was a weird game for the Sega Genesis that I rented a few times, and it scared the heck out of me every time! Thing is I can't remember the name.

You were this weird green poltergeist thing, living in a families house. Now, the family couldn't see you, you would walk amongst them and they would have no idea you were there. The objective was to scare the family out of the house, one by one, by controlling household objects to do weird paranormal stuff, thereby scaring the living daylights out of the family members!

I remember that this cost energy, and your energy also slowly decreased with time. You refilled your energy by picking up green slime. If you ran out of energy, you would be sent to what I can only assume must be the underworld? There was a bunch of green slime there, and you refilled your energy and went back. Maybe there were things that could kill you there? Maybe. Anyway, that was the first thing that I found frightening about this game.

The first couple levels were easy, then there were enemies in the house. Flying demonic heads kinda enemies. Scared the bejeezus out of me every time, and I wouldn't play anymore (come on, I was like 4 or 5). They would do is drain your energy, and send you to the underworld, which sucks because I was scared of that too!

Part of the reason I posted this in the hope that someone could tell me the name of this game. I'd like to give those demonic heads something they've had coming to them for 20-odd years!! Thanks!

I don't know the name of it but when I was 5, I came across a Playstation game display in a store and the game that was playing had a Game Over screen in which somebody has their eyes torn out of their sockets. That freaked the hell out of me.

Silent Hill, the first one, on the PS1. For some unfathomable reason, my mom played it. I just watched, but it was scary as hell to little old me, who only played Gran Turismo at the time. I think we only had the 2 games, actually - we had probably just gotten the PS1 and the games came with it, I bet. It's hard to think clearly that far back, I think I was like...7 or something.

But what's worse about the game is that she tended to play it at night, before I went to bed. Kept having nightmares about things crawling up the stairs outside my bedroom door, 'cause my door was right at the top of the stairs and I could see right down them from my bed at night. It was a horrifying mental image, I tell you. 8/

I was 4 when my parents played Resident Evil (Original). And Tomb Raider. As I recall, they scared me empty.

Quake. This game still scares me, provided I can get the Redbook Audio CD (Remember that shit?) to fucken' work. Honestly the game itself isn't all that scary in retrospect and it was only sort of scary on its own even then, but thanks to the soundtrack and sound effects by Trent Reznor it makes me shit my pants. It just had so much atmosphere and when you were a 6 year old playing in a dark room as creepy ambient music pumped and all these strange sounds played as Lovecraftian monsters tore you to shreds, it definitely became kinda freaky.

Then there's Dark Seed. I regret playing that. My mum didn't want me playing it for obvious reasons, but I snuck into the computer room one time and I had nightmares for at least a fucking year. At least it was my introduction to the awesomeness of H.R. Geiger.

The horror themed levels in Gex 3D. They scared the crap outta me in the early mornings. Having played the game again however I realized how easy I was to scare.

Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire.

The Sewer level, oh god those monsters scared me. And then I had to fight one giant one while underwater.
Sounds like the dreaded diagnoa from Dark Forces. I haven't played the levels they inhabit in about 10 years or so and not really in a rush to return to it.

I guess a lot of FPS games as a young teenager used to spook me out. The feeling of being out there in another world alone, especially things coming from the shadows and dark, even if they were human.

It was my very first gaming experience. My dad sat me infront of Doom (on DOS) and a giant brain on cyborg spider legs startled me into a corner. It proceded to fire green shit at me and make loud robot noises until I fell with a bloodcurdling scream (my dad turned the volume to max), I proceeded to cry.

Doom 3 gave me the creeps too... so much dark.

Resident Evil 2: Corridor + Arms out of wall, plus being very young, an over active imagination, and playing it in a dark room, in the country where weird noises are prevalent.

Silent Hill 2: That game was just dam creepy, fog, monsters that appeared from no-where when you hear static, which made you tense anyway, plus pyramid head was creepy.

The music from boss battles in Sonic 3 & Knuckles. It freaking scared the shit out of me, and I have no clue why.
