Recently, I've been going back and replaying some games. Some I liked. Some I didn't like. Since I'm at it now, I figured it might be worth my while to give games I had a bad initial reaction to a second chance to impress me, since I might be more likely to get into them now that I know what to expect from them. These are games that I felt like I'd been really unfair on; that I hadn't given them a fair chance. These are all games I stopped playing because I wasn't finding them any fun, and I just plain couldn't get interested in them, yet I figure there still might be something there to impress me.

Currently, my games on the "deserve a second chance" list are:

Fallout NV. I loved Fallout 3 so I'm not sure why I didn't have a good first impression of it. I know there's a game I'll love in there somewhere, but I think I just got that sandbox problem of running around because NPCs are telling you this is where the story is instead of going off to find quirky places on my own. Bugginess may also have been an issue, since I had quests that didn't work right, and other stiff

FFXIII. Let me say this; I didn't hate FFXIII. I didn't have that strong of a reaction to it. The most I could say about it was that it was okay, mostly because I think I was so confused by it that I didn't get it. I didn't get why the mechanics had changed so much from previous games, or why it was stopping constantly for cinematics. I didn't get what was going on, since it seemed like the constant flashes to the backstory were impossible to follow, so I had no connection to the game or story. However, by the time I stopped playing, I could see that it was starting to get better. I don't see the harm in at least trying to see this game through fresh eyes, since it will probably be less jarring now that I know what to expect.

Halo: Reach. I have never played a Halo game before, so I think that's mainly why I struggled to get into it. I'm not familiar with the backstory, beyond the obvious basics that Covenant = evil aliens trying to wipe out humanity. I'm not a huge FPS gamer, so it usually takes a bit to get me involved, but I figure I'll probably love it once I give it a second chance and start getting to the interesting parts of the game.

So, anyway, those are my three games that I feel deserve a second look from me. Are there any games you think you'd be willing to try again? Or, can you think of a game that you once hated, only for it to become a game you loved once you tried it again?

Giving Dante's Inferno another chance after a rental back in May.

Really liking it now. Shameless God of War rip-off, but the "Seven Circles" thing leads to some interesting level design. Just make sure you have a strong stomach or creepy fetishes. One of the early bosses is a giant Egyptian woman who puke babies out of her nipples.

I'm giving Chrono Trigger another shot, but so far, it's not going well. Might just be because it's uncomfortable to play. My DS Lite's screen hinge is broke, and it's shuts itself if I don't hold it up.

Plan on giving Red Dead Redemption a THIRD chance soon, too.

But I'll just quit toward the end of the Mexico missions again. I just know it. Never can make it through the Mexican missions. The Landon Ricketts missions are great. But the everything else sucks. From the army to the rebels, it just sucks. Mexico, that is. The first act of the game was great, though.

Might give New Vegas another shot when the price drops. (I sold it). But probably not...Not a big fan of Fallout 3, and New Vegas improved on little in the way of the core shooting mechanics. Somehow, iron sights are worse.

I MIGHT deign to give TF2 another chance. The fact the version I saw was a console FPS without any localized multiplayer was a (massive) turn off.

I gave Bioshock a second chance. Damned glad I did it, too.

Somehow, I managed to avoid spoilers for the game for an entire year; I didn't have a 360 when it came out, so it took me quite a while. When I first rented it, I hated the game. The glitchy, twitchy dead bodies creeped me out, and I accidentally made it too dark so that didn't help at all.

Later on, I tried going through the game again and beat the first level, falling in love with the game. Sadly, I was obsessed with Mass Effect that week, so I had to rent it again later after finishing that. I now own it and its' quite fun sequel; it's among my favourite games.

I'm giving Dungeon Lords a second shot. I hated it's plot illogic and barreness of content the first time I tried it. But maybe it's not so bad.

I'm planning to play through all the Halo games and give Reach the chance I think it deserves. I'm also going to buy Mass Effect 2 for PS3 so that I can experience the story without having to play the confusing borefest, which, to me was ME1.

I'm giving Baldur's Gate a second chance. I didn't think it was bad at all, but I just had no idea, at all, how it worked. After doing a bit of research I think I might be able to make a decent attempt at doing well, eh I dunno.

Edit: Oh yeah, and Fallout 3. I think I already gave up on it after playing Mothership Zeta for the first time. It's terrible, and reminds me why I ditched it for New Vegas in the first place.

For me it just felt like more of the same with very slight improvements, not really enough to hold my attention. :/

Penumbra:Overture-The main draw of this game is the scariness, but the monsters are so easy to kill there's no reason for me to be afraid of them, but the creepy atmosphere is solid, the un-killable enemies are plenty terrifying (Giant, black worms that make almost no noise except for a low grumbling noise) and the puzzles make for a good challenge. Once I got to this RAEG!!1!-inducing section where I had to run from one of the aforementioned worms while traversing pits of 'Deadly green stuff' while breaking down boards with my pickax I just became frustrated and gave up. I'm sure I'd go back to enjoying it if I could just get past that part, one of these days I'll work up the fortitude to get past it.

Mass Effect, I don't think I treated it fairly and it looks like it might be fun.

Mass Effect. I'm still not too fond of the gameplay(it's not bad just too... shooter) or the fact that no matter what option I choose I still sound like a doucher(though less so than 2, it seems.) But I'm finding the story more engaging now that I'm giving it some mind and the RPG aspects sure aren't bad.

Not so much a second chance, since I already love it, but I plan to restart New Vegas now that I've made up my mind on alignment.

I'm going to try and give Blue Shift another chance. I was able to force myself through Half-Life since I found it to get very repetitive (the main redeeming fact was the soundtrack).

I tried Opposing Force, and said "OH MY GOD THIS IS SO EPIC". I consider Opposing Force to be one the best Half-Life games.

Then I tried Blue Shift, and realized it's just more of Half-Life and less of Opposing Force. I was maybe two or so hours in before I left it.

While I liked Overture, it's more of a intro into Penumbra: Black Plague which is much better, and much scarier. Knowing the stuff from Overture makes Black Plague much scarier, and I'd say play through it and then get Black Plague.

And yeah, when you got to the point where you pretty much had to kill the monsters it stopped being scary.

I suppose it's time to reinstall Fallout 3 and give it one last chance.

However this time I may have to murder everyone in Vault 101 before I leave, in revenge for me having to trudge through the opening sequence again. Just the thought of having to suffer the birthday party again is almost enough to put me off revisiting that game.

I've decided to give Mirrors Edge another chance and its not too bad at all, theres obviously some problems still(storys abit questionable as is the combat)but i dont mind so much because i appreciate that they tried something different at least, unlike alot of recent games. When you get some flow going though its actually quite exciting especially during the chase sequences.

COMPUTER also known as PC

Still not getting through to me, there.

But seriously, my computer is so shit backward that it can't run TF2. I'd upgrade it, but this isn't a wise use of resources. It's so bad that the notion of running modern PC games on it is actually laughable.

Plus I'd need to build more farms.

Yeah, I haven't played Requiem too much. It's way too puzzle heavy for my tastes, and they aren't the usual logical physics puzzles either. Still Black Plague is awesome, and the only game that scared me more than it was Amnesia.

Oh, word. I bought BioShock on STEAM for $30.00, gave it one play, and was pretty disappointed. A year and a half later I re-installed it, and fell in love. Much later, I preordered BioShock 2, gave it one play, and was pretty disappointed. Maybe, in 180 days or so, I'll give it a second chance.

Counter-Strike Source, too. First time I played, I got ganked hard; CS has an insanely steep learning curve. But, after I got the hang of it, I am incredibly skilled, and it is my third most played game evar (behind Fallout 3, which is behind Team Fortress 2).

My friend let me play ff13 ... Other than the story... The characters... And the linearness, the combat was awesome I kept playing just to get to the next battle for the adrenal rushed fighting.

I also replayed Sly Cooper 1 and this play around it was hard as balls im surprises i didn't go insane from how many times I died.
