Half-life 2. Average is the only word that comes to mind.
Ocarina of time was good, but worse than majora-mask
Gears of war, call of duty, and halo are all contenders, too.

All of Valve's stuff. It's all pretty good, but I don't think it nearly deserves the huge amount of praise tossed at it.

MW and Halo, obviously. But I can't stand those who say it's crap because it's "mainstreamized".

Minecraft, for the love of God.

Half Life 2. When it came out I disliked it. The background dystopian world was pretty well developed, and a couple characters were interesting, and I even got into the story of it. But then every time I got interested, you would have to go back to another action sequence, or another physics puzzle sequence, or something like that. The game left me wanting so much more than it ended up delivering. Scenes that I heavily anticipated to drive forward the story cut short far too soon, and the driving sections dragged on far too long. The most balanced part of the game in that regard for me ended up being the last mission, where you get a good mix of story and action, and also the gravity gun on steroids was ridiculously fun to use. But it was way to watered down otherwise.

also, they need some damn sublety too. aeris' death might as well be "FEEL SAD NOW!!!1!" for how effective it was.
I am pretty sure alot of people will disagree here, Aeris death marked the first time when alot of people shed tears over a video game.
but why? why is it so sad to everyone? to me, it was just... meh. seriously, when playing their games I feel not like "oh thats so sad"(FF7) or "or oh look they love eachother"(FFX). I just don't. then the stories often don't end properly (KH) or understand who the best choice for portagonist would be(KH2, FFX).

and really, nothing goddamn FLOWS I mean. the story just trips all over itself with moments that are unnecessary, stupid moments, music that is constantly called great when really...

just...

why? WHY is this company so popular with their games when, going back through their history, I haven't found a single quality game?

I HATE square enix. HATE them.
I don't know why Aeris death was tear-worthy but it was. If I knew exactly why, I could probably make money on the formula. As it stands, evoking emotion is not an exact science.

Anyway, it wasn't Square Enix who made Final Fantasy 7 or 10.
in my original post, I mention Squaresoft.

but THATS beyond the point: I struggle to find anything good or at least noteworthy about their games, or games that have even a tangental connection has been so BLEH that the praise of them is as baffling as it is undeserved.

undeserved praise is kind of the point to this thread.

Every Call of Duty game after 2, TF2, and every Total War game.

Edit: I also forgot to add Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas. New Vegas is merely a glorified expansion.

I actually laughed seeing her getting impaled its like whole metaphor for semi consensual rape in my mind.

God of War(s).

It's not even a bad series. It's just very juvenile and a bit repetitive at times.

But seeing what would appear to be mature men drool over it bothers me very much.

Fallout 2. Sure, it's funny and deep as hell. But F3 and New Vegas are still better.

Half Life 2. I didn't think the game was that good at all. Nothing in the "plot" is explained at all, you are required to have played the first one to know wtf is going on.

Portal. Its a decent puzzle game, but hardly revolutionary.

Team Fortress 2. *yawn* A.V.A. is a much more interesting and fun FPS.

Minecraft. This game is incredibly boring. And the "retro" graphics don't do it for me.

World of Warcraft. Will people just shut up about it already?

Counter Strike. Should have died years ago.

Slim Jims. I will never eat one of these "meat sticks" again.
I am going to respond to each of these:
Half Life 2. Don't complain about the plot. It's well-written and subtle, and it doesn't really require a play-through of the first game, just a basic understanding of what happened.

Portal. People liked the humor and the polish. And having the portal gun was such a simple concept, but the implications of dicking around with three dimensions was just so fun for us boring regular folk.

Team Fortress 2. Eh. TF2 is a take it or leave it kinda thing. I've done both.

Minecraft. Minecraft is a game about creation and exploration. I don't understand how you found it boring. Oh well. To each his own.

World of Warcraft. WoW is actually really good and revolutionary. Just kidding it sucks. I agree one hundred percent. Let this ***** die.

Counter Strike. I refuse to say anything bad about counter-strike. I don't really think it's fun anymore, but when I was 7-9, I was hopelessly addicted.

Slim Jims. Yeah they suck.

Fallout: New Vegas isn't really a glorified expansion. Unless you count adding bugs as expanding.

OT: Bioshock. Played it. Liked it. The third act sucked balls. Seriously did they just stop trying after they wrote the Ryan's Office scene?

Haven't heard about Total War in awhile, Empire didn't come off in a big splash publicity wise.

Halo series and pretty much every BioWare game. I am so fucking sick of hearing about how they are the "greatest writers ever" and the "best RPGs ever". If they really were, why were the characters so damn bland and boring in Dragon Age, and it actually took me cheats, music, movies, and the X-Games to actually manage to get through the game without dying of pure boredom? Even the "combat" was putting me to sleep. I'm not buying any more BioWare games.

New Vegas is as much of a "glorified expansion" as every single Halo game after CE was.

I don't want to start a flame war, but these are my list of games:

Call of Duty series, Fallout 3, Dragon Age, KOTOR, Baldurs Gate, Mass Effect, BioShock, Grand Theft Auto San Andreas (yes it's a good game I must admit, but for me it wasn't fun in the slightest), Zelda, Metroid, Castlevania, Super Mario Galaxy 1&2, Oblivion, Morrowind, Resident Evil 4, Civilization series, and some more i cannot remember.
