Lets pull off some scabs and rub salt and lemon juice into the lamest, most infuriating and downright embaressing failures of the gaming industry. Games, playing mechanics, characters, developers, engines, levels and everything else. It's all fair game.

From the Giant Enemy Crab to the Red Ring of Death, what are some of the most insulting letdowns you have experienced as a gamer?

(Note: I'm not trying to slander games, if I could I would spend every waking minute with them, I'm just interested in what old wounds will be re-opened!)

The vanilla ending for Fallout 3. Thank god for Broken Steel, because that ending, quite honestly, ruined the game for me. What's the point of playing through for...that?

Gotta be the Horse Armor Incident.

I'd like to think the industry learned from the screaming that accompanied that, but...

Oh, and didn't the PS3 download version of the The Pitt Fallout Expansion not even work the first day? Didn't experience this, but heard about it. That's pretty huge.

I'll second the ending of Fallout 3 and Spore. Both were jaw-droppingly bad. I was very let down by TES: Oblivion as well.

My biggest letdown in the recent few years, though, is Heavy Rain. It's an okay game, but it's just so flawed in so many ways. Plot holes you could drive a semi through, immersion-breaking glitches galore. With all the hype, and Fahrenheit to show what potential David Cage has (or, for those of you who hate Fahrenheit, just the first half of the game), Heavy Rain turned out to be a massive disappointment.

Daikatana was 10 times worse than this.

Does anyone remember the hype around that game?

"John Romero is going to make you his *****".

Yeah, right.
Yeah, that gets my vote. He actually apologized for that, even going so far as to say he thought it was too much, but the advertising suits loved it, iirc.

I second that as well.

Peter Molyneux and all his promises that never came around. He's a good guy but he can never keep his mouth shut.

This. I was convinced that the game would be pure gold, and it could have been.

But uh, Mercenaries 2 was a huge letdown for me. I loved the first one because it was just tons of fun to play around with, but the second felt unfinished. It just wasn't any fun at all. Bugs everywhere, glitchy weapons delivery, bad shooting mechanics, and the list goes on.

You sure won't - people don't generally like it around here.
Except for me. But I'm a nice guy (or at the very least really don't feel like debating it).
OT: Ehh, I honestly don't remember any.
Weird.

The Fable Games. Fable 2 added insult to injury.

Driver 2 + 3

Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy

Alone in the Dark (The new one, so promising, yet so bad)

Colony Wars Online (at least, i once read about it in a gaming magazine shortly before release of the PS2, back when it seemed that Online Functionality would become a big thing 1 or 2 years into the PS2's life cycle. It was probably a rumor at best, but i'm still secretly waiting for it)

Yeah the Cliche you have to die for the world crap gets old...

Some of the programmers need to grow up and just think about the people who want to keep wandering the wastes and think of a real creative good ending.

Ninja Gaiden 2 on the 360 for me. By no means a bad game, but comapared to NG for XBOX it was cheap, unfinished and lazy.
