There is no conceivable way for me to respond to this thread without being called a troll, but what the Hell.

BioWare games. If I hear one more time about their epic story writing and amazing characters, hidden somewhere in all that dull gameplay...

Okay, everyone flame me.

GTFO TROLL!!!

Actually, I'm with you. I never thought the writing in ME 1 or 2 was spectacular (actually I found it a little cheesy) and ME2's plot was a huge letdown for me. Plus I thought KOTOR's gameplay was pretty dull--but I dug the story.

Oh... I hadn't finished Spore yet. *sad face*

I did finish Borderlands *very sad face*

Not looking forward to finishing other games, because of this syndrome *tears running down face*

So... just never finish a game! Mind you, if it's Borderlands, it's sort of hard to predict when it will end, as it sneaks up on one, and then runs away into the distance, leaving the poor player dazed and muttering, "you mean... that's IT? It's over? Sheesh..."

Daikatana was 10 times worse than this.

Does anyone remember the hype around that game?

"John Romero is going to make you his *****".

Yeah, right.
This. Funny how Deus Ex came out right after...

Spore (it does five things, none of them right).

The Wii (Well, whaddya know, the nintendo exclusives are few and far between... but here, have some shovelware in the meantime)

Little Big Planet (Whoah awesome level-designer that's easy to use and all! Too bad the gameplay is horribad)

Alpha Protocol (Didn't buy it, but after all the hype about a Spy-action RPG the gameplay looks deeply flawed. Which is a shame, I wanted it, and I wanted it to be good)

Modern Warfare 2 (I like the gameplay, and the matchmaking works... but really now? There are good ways to deal with cheaters, so GET TO IT IW... obviously that's the multiplayer, single-player is awesome)

CoD:WaW (Treycarch are many things, Infinity Ward they are not)

Splinter Cell: Double Agent, PS3 version (poorly optimised piece of junk)

Lol Let down, heck I NEVER expect that game when they promised it 4 years in and it failed to pop. Heck even Mechwarrior didn't have that bad a gap...

Starcraft Ghost!

God, to be honest, I was way more hyped up about that game then Starcraft II.

Too Human. It was boasted to be an epic hack'n'slash where you play a GOD fighting mechanical demons and you can summon your diefic powers to scatter the steel hordes like ants before your mighty blade. There was also supposed to be 5-player co-op.

Finished product can be summed up in these words:

"The fuck is this?"

Here's what I don't get. Why was people actually anticipating it in the first place? Don't get me wrong, I kind of liked Duke Nukem 3D. But when I heard about Duke Nukem Forever, I kinda went "Eh. That might kill some time". It's not like the series is revolutionary in any way. It's kind of funny-ish. Immature, but sort of funny. It never had particularly good gameplay, the graphics were always mediocre compared to its contemporaries... Why did we get hyped up in the first place?

no new dance moves in Wrath of the lich king.

dammit blizzard, I want my new dances!!

but more seriously, Spore was the biggest letdown I've ever experienced. we were promised so much, and rather than get a masterpiece, we got 6 minigames and a crappy 3d model maker

kotor 2 what were they thinking releasing a game half finished
I'm not gonna argue that it was rushed. What they were thinking was probably "the suits -have- to have this in stores for Christmas", since the release date (North America) is December 6. I'm guessing executive meddling had a lot to do with it. Still, I don't think it was too bad a game. Sure, the ending felt rushed, the HK-47 quest peters out to nothing, and there were bits and pieces that weren't properly done. Yet, I think it's a cool storyline, great characters, and an all around decent RPG experience. I suppose I just think people are being a bit too harsh on poor KotOR II. For me, it was a bigger experience than KotOR I, tell you the truth (and I love that game, too), despite it's flaws. Whenever the Sith Lords Restoration Projects is finished, it'll be epic, I'm positive.

Edit: This gamespy article sheds some more light on the issue.

The vanilla ending for Fallout 3. Thank god for Broken Steel, because that ending, quite honestly, ruined the game for me. What's the point of playing through for...that?
Yeah the Cliche you have to die for the world crap gets old...

Some of the programmers need to grow up and just think about the people who want to keep wandering the wastes and think of a real creative good ending.
A game programmer and a game designer are two completely different things

Programmers have very little creative input and mostly focus on coding, game designers are in charge of the gameplay/story decisions.
