Ugh, Rap...
While I could spew hate on it all day, I agree with your request for keeping it flame free.
That and I be lazy. =3

Well it all depends on your perspective. I view it as poetry, that is only enhanced by music and a beat, whereas most view it as repetitive music with people talking over it. As I said in a previous post, Rap died around '94, so most stuff people hear is utter garbage. Also I literally never listen to awful rap. There is an abundance of real rap, although it is unfortunately obscured by the majority giving the rest a bad name.
I guess I need to agree with you there.
While Rap and R&B are leading the way imo, music in general just seems to be going downhill lately, it's a little depressing.

Slightly off topic, but I think I may have figured out why Rap lyrics rub me the wrong way so much.
One of my favored genras is J-pop, and even if I know the lyrics in English, the Japanese lyrics don't register as words on a subconscious level, instead they register as another layer of the music itself where as Rap does the jarring opposite.
I also have been known to listen to melodic trance, which further supports this theory. o_O
That should cover it.
Took me ages to come up with that theory as to why I dislike it so. o_O

Also Country. It's like feeding greens to a kid to me, blech. *Shudder*
I remember having that conversation with you.

I just popped in to say that I dislike how people hate on rap, saying it's all about "bitches and guns" when they've never listened to any. Your reason was good, and I accepted that fine.

Also the recent crop of child stars just make me *shudder*. Not cool...

Being an avid fan of metal,I've grown tired of people dismissing it as a valid form of music.I've seen people everywhere with their pathetic excuses like "it's just noise".Yeah, spoken by someone who clearly hasn't listened to very much of it.

Now,the loud stuff, like Death Or Black metal,is not for everyone. In fact, nobody likes it at first.I myself had to wean into it by listening to lighter stuff first.

BUT,there is a lot of beauty and thought put into so many existing bands and sub-genres.Power,Symphonic and Progressive metal has shown me over the years that metal can and is a valid art-form.I understand that this is entirely subjective, but nevertheless, not all metal is noise. It certainly isn't easy listening, which I appreciate. It may also not be for everyone, but please for the love of god.Stop calling the entire genre (which is a lot more sparse than people realise) "just noise".

And just to clarify - SLIPKNOT,BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE AND METALLICA ARE NOT NOR EVER WILL BE THE BE-ALL-AND-END-ALL OF METAL.THEY DO NOT REPRESENT EVERYTHING METAL HAS TO OFFER.

Also may I point out.I listen to metal, this is true. This does however not mean I am part of the Metalhead stereotype.

I do not hate ALL THINGS MAINSTREAM.I just hate bad music.
I do not ignore all that is not metal, and do not think metal is the greatest music on earth.
I listen to Hip-Hop,Dance,Jazz and some Blues too.

I hate over earnest kerrang rock like 30 seconds to mars, christ they suck. they all do. I also hate most metal, fucking tuneless noise (I have a friend who loves it so i know enough to judge). Most of its as sacharrine and poor as any chart hit today, just with a different backing. Although there is good stuff, I must admit (i am partial to a bit of Iron Maiden for example)

I hate people who hate all rap, even when all they've listened to is fiddy and the crap they have now. Don't dismiss a whole genre based on a limited knowledge. Try some public enemy or de la soul, even eric b and rakim are pretty good. even modern rap can be brilliant, such as Outkast and ghostface Killah.

The same can be said of pop, which is also often maligned. The beatles played pop music, so did MJ. Are they crap? No. Good pop is great, just as bad pop is bad. it's the same with most genres.

And RnB, RnB isn't Rihanna singing badly then a rapper coming in. it's Ray Charles doing his thing or Motown, the whole of motown. Anyone who dismisses RnB is a cretin, because theres still some good stuff out there keeping the spirit of it alive.

oh, and I really dslike most prog rock, I've tried listening to it and just don't care for it at all (except for Pink floyd and king crimson).

... What music do you like? Rap, pop, metal. There goes the three biggest genres right there. Now all i can think of is classical, jazz, blues rock and alt rock. Or RnB but lets face it, you're on the escapist, i doubt you're that shallow.

OT:

I personally HATE My Chemical Romance.

Seriously, the band would be ok if they dropped the whole "WE SING FOR TEENAGERS WHO THINK THEY'RE LIFE IS TOUGH EVEN THOUGH I WAS "INSPIRED" BY 9/11".

People use her all the time as an example of how soulless music has become. If you want to use Ke$ha or Justin Bieber or 90% of the music you'll hear on the radio, then fine, but Lady Gaga has talent.
I agree with this.

I'm not sure if I can really complain about music as such, or just the people who're into it, but the thing that annoys me is when people confuse "bad" with "I don't like". There's plenty of music I don't like, but I wouldn't say that it's "bad" as such.

Also, I believe that there is good stuff and bad stuff in every genre. You just have to find it.

There heavier stuff is all right... Teenagers, House of wolves, Black parade, mama etc.

And if you ignore the throngs of poser emos saying they're the best band ever then you can actually enjoy them.

You've totally missed the point. especially what i said about rnb, why is liking it shallow? RnB, like i said isn't rihanna, beyonce and alike, but Marvin gaye, Ray Charles, Smokey Robinson and Martha and The Vandellas. even Michael jackson is rnb. RnB is, along with the blues, one of the bases of modern rock and roll, and deserves respect. certainly more respect than almost any other genre.

The same for pop, it can be brilliant (beatles, MJ, beach boys etc.). If you actually read what i wrote, you'd know that i do like pop and rap (but not metal) and hate those who dismiss them out of hand.

it seems like you only skim read what I wrote.

if i had to chose a favorite genre, though, I'd go for alt rock what with some of my favourite bands being the Pixies, REM and Jane's Addiction.

I'm pissed off that Iron Maiden are playing 80% stuff from the last 2 albums on the current tour.

I want to hear Hallowed Be Thy Name and The Trooper, not fucking Benjamin Breeg.
I was a little upset by that until they played dance of the dead and it was awesome. Also when they actually played Hallowed be thy name.
They did Hallowed? Hallelujah! I was looking up setlists from early on the tour and it wasn't on it. I mean I love every song from Brave New World, but found the next two albums underwhelming and too noisily produced for thier style.

What other oldies did they do? (and where did you see them?)

A personal dislike of mine: Dizzee Rascal.
No, it's not because I hate rap. I enjoy occasional rap, if it's well-intended or has a catchy tune.
No, i'm not a racist.

It's because he cannot, or will not SING. In every single "song" of his, he does not sing. He talks. He talks in a normal voice, like you would everyday. There's no attempt to try to go with the music, no attempt to show passion about it; it's just goddamn talking. Get rid of his fucking vocals and you might have a half-decent tune, but with it it's just horrible. Gah!

I'm into things like psychadelic rock and folk. Although i will listen to everything its just that there are certain aspects of rap that annoy me, mainly the fact that most songs are about 'sex and bitches' although there are some rappers who i can safely say are amazing lyricists such as Eminem. By far one of the best in the world.

Well they did lots of newer stuff, then at the end they played Fear of the Dark and then Iron Maiden. Then everything went dark, they all walked off, Niko threw some sticks and a drum skin...And then after a while you heard "Woe to you oh Earth and sea, for the devil sends the beast with wrath." and it was beautiful. Then they played number of the Beast, Hallowed be thy name, and Running free.
I saw them in Pittsburgh by the way. Dream Theater was great too.

there is a whole lot of shit that i hate about music. like why cant a bands second album never be good... it seems impossible
Led zeppelin II by Led Zeppelin
Doolittle by Pixies
The Bends by Radiohead
Catch a Fire by the Wailers
Axis: Bold as Love By Jimi Hendrix
Nevermind by Nirvana
It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back by Public Enemy
Paul's Boutique by Beastie Boys
Green river by CCR
Unknown Pleasures by Joy Division
Fun House by The Stooges
Bryter Layter by Nick drake
Siamese Dream by Smashing Pumpkins
Disraeli Gears by Cream
Loveless by My Bloody Valentine

all are second albums, all are considered among the best ever, most are that artists best work. Obviously there are more great second albums out there, but I don't have the time or the patience.

its not impossible, is it? Just an annoying trend.

I got one of thier albums, The Black Parade out of curiousity and I was really surprised by how good it was. It reminded me a lot of Queen, the big bombastic epic songs with strong melodies.

I listened to the first album and didn't like it at all though, it was too emo-punk or something.

I have a funny taste in music, and there is a lot of it I don't like--even if it's by the same band. But I single out the Beatles for this one: I've been told--and experienced--that they are massively popular, and deserve near universal love and admiration. I, however, don't feel that way; my criteria is simple: if it sounds good, it's because it probably is. I don't like the Beatles because they don't ring a pleasant note with my ears. But this apparently is a concept too hard for people to grasp with. I just received a lecture from a friend the other day telling me how the The Beatles "revolutionized" the music industry, and how much they "experimented" and how "creative" they were. So? It doesn't sound good, remember?

The only band, in my opinion, that has its entire catalog of music appeal to me is Queen, and that's about it.

Yeah fair enough, they're not bad, not what I meant though. Public Enemy (especially earlier stuff) is more what I'm talking about and I'd show ya some amazing Serbian/Croatian rappers to show you what the really amazing stuff is, but it's a little hard to get into it when you can't understand the lyrics. If you wanna give it a look though (and for anyone who knows ex-Yu language), look up:

Marchelo - sort of Eminem style, but an incredibly well educated guy, best lyrics ever, to the point where I can unironically say most of his stuff is poetry cast into rap, has some really fun feel-good songs but you really have to be from around here to get them, loads of political songs too that are very, very good

Edo Maajka - different kinds of rap, lots of fun and feel-good rap songs, lots of serious stuff too about relationships, against the people stuck in the Serbo-Croatian war mindset (and against the war itself), especially against gangsters etc.

Beogradski Sindikat - mostly political and social themes, some serious stuff delivered by a large group of good rappers

Don't worry mate, you aren't alone with the Dizzee Rascal hate (I presume you're British/Irish..?). If I may add another point to your rant, the reason he annoys me so much is because he does not know English. I am not even sure he has an education. Fine, Eminem uses slang, but he also includes proper sentences and words, not garbage picked up in the back streets of London. Listening to Dizzee Rascal violently rape a language almost makes me cry, and then he had the balls to join up with Florence and the Machine- who actually looked to have a bit of promise! That was akin to putting a radioactive sign next to any of their music, for me.

Another hate of mine, is the Dance/Techno that is generally played here. I don't mean all forms, just the ones that create a 10 second tune at the most, overlay loads of electronic effects, and repeat the shite for 5 whole minutes- and then using a well known song to make it more appealing. I would be fine with the music, only every chav (or whatever the 'raver' is known as in your area) insists on blaring it out of their car, or putting it loud on their iPod, or talking about it. These obnoxious assholes don't even realise the shit they are listening to, having been brainwashed by other assholes.

Finally, Coldplay, Keane, Radiohead, Arctic Monkeys and even Snow Patrol (they come from a place not to far from me) all put me to sleep. Seriously, at a school music production, a friend of mine started singing 'The Scientist' by Coldplay. I had to be woken up after 3 minutes by the person sitting next to me. If I cannot go to sleep, I have a special playlist created from songs of these bands, and it always puts me to sleep. I do not understand how a band can set out to create such mind-numbingly boring music, and how they have not killed themselves already. (Apologies to the topic creator, I know others have said this, just had to get it off my chest.)

/rant.

Shut up, Justin Bieber! You are being used by others to make money, and in less than half a decade your career will be over, replaced by some new teen idol whom everyone will complain about. But I'm complaining about you know, so stay focused!
Agreed. OH SO AGREED.

Also, the amount of female pop singers trying to be sex objects. The music generally is a few beats with lyrics that rarely has any substance to it, and you are not good role models for all the young girls that want to be like you :/
Hits particularly home for me (being female) and generally enjoying most "pop" music. I like my lyrics to have a meaning, even if the lyrics mean something different to me than they did to the artist. I don't want to look at a pop star, then look at my body and go "WOW I WISH I LOOKED LIKE THAT" (which would mean I'd have fake tits and a size -2 waist).

Lady Gaga is actually a good singer.

People use her all the time as an example of how soulless music has become. If you want to use Ke$ha or Justin Bieber or 90% of the music you'll hear on the radio, then fine, but Lady Gaga has talent. If you've heard just her and a piano, you'll know. She is also one of the most prominent trolls in society, coming second to the collective force that is Anonymous.
This. My dad pulls that all the time and I wish I could just show him some live footage but he'd scoff and walk away if I tried. There are actually a couple of songs of hers I can relate to as well.

Okay, done quoting, hah.

Tbh, I'm really more miffed by people sometimes than actual music. Yeah, there's stuff I don't like (generally most rap and the fact that the subject matter is rarely about things I don't want to hear about, etc. although I have found some I really enjoy a lot), but in all honestly, it's people that really do my head in.

What I really can't stand is when a person (doesn't matter if they're a friend or not) goes on and on about how they love a band when they've only heard one song of theirs. Sorry, but you don't love the band, you love the SONG. This is something I try to avoid doing, specifically saying "Oh yeah, I love that song too" if I have the same amount of knowledge about the band as they do.

I also hate when a band I really like gets associated with something I'm not all that fond of (e.g.: Paramore on the Twilight soundtrack and the god awful music video that came out of it).
