Getting raped is like getting a flat tire. Also, it's God's will. Fancy that.

I love how people are going either "RELIGION SUCKS" or "RELIGION ROCKS" in this thread, but they all follow it up with "Let's not turn this into a religious flame war, people!"

On topic: Yeah, this guy is an idiot. I have no qualms about wanting people like that to die. Fuck "every person is equal", because they are not. This person is not worth as much as you or me. He's worth about the same as a 9mm round, preferrably one lodged in his head.

God needs to stay OUT of office. Why are some political christians in America becoming so militant and stubborn these days?

If God (and by God you mean the Christian God)is all-good, how could something evil be his will? Regardless of your opinions on Christianity, that just isn't logical.
To quote Epicurus...

"Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able?
Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing?
Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing?
Then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able nor willing?
Then why call him God?"

That kind of applies to all monotheistic religions. :x
Heh. I am a born and raised Christian. And I have just fallen in love with that quote. So simple, yet it speaks volumes...*files it away for future spiritual debates*

So the guy said something incredibly stupid and a writer wrote an incendiary article to tell him off. Big deal. Politicians say stupid things and get people yelling at them all the time. I don't think any politician is free from people trying to bury them every 2 seconds or doing incredibly stupid things. Make the guy know that was a dumb move and why and hopefully he can avoid further asinine comments.

there was an article i read... i cannot remember where... and i am an atheist who respects logical people who choose to have faith... but in this article... more a short story really... a man has a conversation with god, by the end of it the man comes to the realization that good and evil are words, and what makes an action "good" or "evil" is defined by man, and further man was not given free will, but free will is a consequence of being a sentient creature. god controls everything but to unmake free will would be to unmake man as a whole... thus he prevents evil through the actions of good men who choose to be good via their own free will...

i am still unconvinced of religion, but i have yet to hear something more moving.
You should read Nietzsche - Beyond Good and Evil. You'll stay unconvinced of imaginary sky man, but you'll have a fascinating deconstruction of those childish concepts.

And what I am taking from this is yet another reason for my extreme anti-theism. I hate religion in all its forms. Gods will my arse. Fucking knobjockey.
See above! Also, nice OC VG Cats avatar.
This ignores the Doctrine of Free Will though. God has given Man the power to choose to the good or the evil; ie: he didn't create robots to blindly follow him because that would have defeated the purpose of creating them in the first place. It also ignores the fallen nature of Man, which would explain where evil comes from.

I don't want to start a religious war over this though (I'm a Roman Catholic btw).
The 'Fallen Nature of Man' is just another idea put forward to increase theistic control. It allows the idea that the only way to rise again is via their particular faith/sect and thus ensures control by fear.

I'm sorry, I just can't say "rape insurance" with a straight face. Personally I'd just buy the gun and be done with it.

Besides, its Kansas... who really cares what a hillbilly thinks.
(Yes I am aware that not all kansassians are hillbillies but this dude clearly has a few round about branches in his family tree.)
You shouldn't even feel the need to say that. The guy won an election there, so clearly enough of their voting populace ARE sister-fucking tea-drinkin' queer-fearin' bible-illiterate "Christians" that he does to a large degree represent the state, or at a part of it. I'm a Texan, and I accept that stereotypes go with the territory so long as our state legislature insists on introducing bills to force universities that have a gay assistance center to create a "straight assistance center" as well. And to make a location in our state the number one nuclear waste site in the country. And to make it virtually impossible to sue if the landfill near your home is tainting your water and making your children sick.

...no offense if any of y'all are sister-fucking Christians.

Nothing is a big deal until it affects them personally. Then its not god's will because how could a god do something so mean to them! It doesn't make sense.

DeGraaf: "We do need to plan ahead, don't we, in life?"

Bollier: "And so women need to plan ahead for issues that they have no control over with pregnancy?"

DeGraaf: "I have a spare tire on my car."
UUUUUUUNNNNGGGGHHHHHH[footnote]The sound a person makes as their brain liquifies and droops like syrup from their eyesockets[/footnote].

Why are these people in charge? I'm all for letting the public decide who they want to be in power, democracy is a pretty good idea when you think of the alternatives. But when these elected individuals are fucked in the head, people are gong to suffer for it.

Oh so very true...
It still amazing how people are so quick to label abortion is bad.
I won't say that it takes a smarter person to go pro-abortion, because there are just as many uninformed decisions on that side as well.
But it does seem that most people are quick to jump on the side of the anti-abortion without educating themselves in the slightest, or getting into the logic of why the people who are pro-abortion, are pro-abortion.

My high school social teacher always told us:
"To argue, you need to know your side of the argument, and their side of the argument.
To argue well, you need to know your side of the argument well, and their side of the argument well.
To argue the best, you need to know their side of the argument better than they know it"

Its so rare to get into discussions like that these days =(

Overdramatized.

This thread, that article, and rape in general. It's all over dramatized.

I wouldn't equate it with a spare tire, but I wouldn't equate it with a mind shattering life altering experience either.
Woah woah. Seriously. I seriously have to disagree with you here. I'm keeping a cool head, but have you ever even talked to someone who's been seriously affected by sexual abuse/rape?

DISCLAIMER: What I'm about to say may seem rude or piggish but I am simply looking at it from a realistic / scientific point of view and I REFUSE to be politically correct in any way like most of you zombies are.

"women should be prepared to be raped the way he is prepared for a flat tire"

Look I KIND OF understand what they are trying to say. They are just doing a horrible job at it. Let's forget about God and religion for a second and look at the animal kingdom. Some animal species frequently 'rape' one another. A female of the species might not seem willing and may even run away until the male tackles it and 'rapes' it. A certain species of bed bugs reproduce by literally stabbing their penises into the flesh of the female if she fights back.

My point is that even if humans were as 'dumb' as animals we would still rape one another... and we will probably continue to rape one another when we get 'smarter' too. It is biologically imprinted into us to rape the female of the species. Yes we all know it is morally wrong so we make a conscientious decision to not do it no matter how bad our urges and attraction is.

Females never did anything wrong in the first-place other than being born female. Of course they don't 'deserve' to be raped but because it is inevitable that a male may find an attractive female (oh gosh really?) ATTRACTIVE then chances are eventually one of those males is going to be adhering to his animalistic nature. We could loosely say this is 'Gods will' or plan or whatever because he designed us but I myself couldn't give a crap about religion so I look at the species as a whole biologically instead which makes far more sense.

If you look anything remotely close to this:
then there is a chance you will get raped given the right circumstances... just like getting a flat tire (although the probability of each is far different... almost everyone has gotten a flat tire... rape on the other hand SHOULD be far more infrequent).

Statistics of Rape per capita... (holy shit my home country is #3?... keep in mind this is REPORTED rape and probably doesn't cover ACTUAL rape like in countries where Men get away with it and women get executed for fessing up... I'm looking at you Islam countries!):

The only thing I could find in less than a minute about how often people get flat tires:

PS: If you're wondering why I put Denise Richards as the picture and not a model then clearly you haven't seen the movie 'Wild Things'.
