Girls are a fundamental part of life for a guy, else life would be one loooooong football locker room.
What exactly do you mean by the second part of this sentence? Because I have a sneaking suspicion you completely let gay men slip your mind. After all, one looooong football locker room as a gay guy's life would be a very good life indeed. Just sayin'.

On topic, I'll probably assume if you're a girl you less likely to be a gamer than if you're a guy (just from personal experience). But once I know a girl is playing, then of course I'm not going to assume she's fundamentally worse than anyone else at playing video games. That's just stupid.

There's no girls on the internet, silly.
Whose names don't end in .jpg anyway :p

But in all seriousness, I don't see why gaming is supposed to be a 'male' interest. One of my best friends is female and she's a Gamer. If anybody thinks girl gamers don't exist and/or must suck at games, then they're either an ignorant frat boy or a 13 year old boy (which they most likely are if we're talking XBL). Every girl I've ever seen pick up a controller has been at least mildly skilled at a game. I've always found it's fighting games, which granted aren't really more that button mashing contests. They're also really good at party games too... And puzzle games... I'm noticing a pattern...
My old girlfriend played CoD4, TF2, Portal, Half-Life 2, Rockband, Unreal Tournament...I'm starting to see a pattern, too...Girls are just as good as boys at this crap, and that people need to get over it.

Gamer girls are really annoying in my opinion. I really dont like them "treading on our territory" Especially the ones that think they're so fucking special just because thay are a girl.

Oh, them. They're hard to deal with. That just takes a quick "Get the fuck over your chromosomes," and then you just need to move on. And I can't stress this one enough: It's NOT OUR TERRITORY. Video games are built for whoever want to play them.

I've never really noticed much sexism on games. This might be because I ignore sex, race, religion ect and automaticlly assume that everyone is an asshole and they are inferior to me at this game (my PSN name is Meet_Your_Doom!) If I see somebody who I think is a girl, I shoot them in the head, and if it's a guy, I shoot them in the balls just for a laugh. I don't know any girls who like gaming, and I suppose I do assume that they aren't as good, but then every girl I know IS crap because they never play, so that's justified (I think?). Men and women are equal nowadays, and if the "battle of the sexes" has spilled over into gaming then I for one will welcome it, because this is the only way I can just kill both sides when I get bored with arguing!

well, i'm a girl who loves gaming, i usually play on steam the mostly and i rarely get any sexist remarks from other gamers, although that might have something to do with the fact that my display name is non-gender specific but when i reveal i'm i girl everyone thinks its hilarious.
i really hate it when people generalise me and my gaming skills just because im a girl. i can beat my boyfriend half the time at lots of different games and he's been gaming his whole life, not to mention his computer is a proper gaming computer and mines about 5 years old, and whenever his friends come over for a lan i can usually beat at least two of them, on games like CSS, starcraft and C&C3, and they are all really good... lol enough of tooting my horn though, i might actually go kill some terrorists!

Haha... Like it even matters. I think John Gabriel's Greater Internet Fuckwad Theory applies equally to both genders, I've been annoyed by both men and women online but also played well alongside both.

As for whether they're any better or worse at games than men, depends largely on the girl and the game in question. Although a lot of girls seem to go for specific genres, some use the anonymity offered by the web to do something completely opposite to their expected gender role.

Just like when you were kids, some girls wanted to play with dolls, others with action man/GI Joe/Whatever... Guys who take umbrage at this are just boys who never grew up. Some would argue that this is why they are into videogames in the first place, but that's another story for a different audience.

I am happy to be dating a girl who can kick ass at Wii boxing but it doesn't really make a lot of difference in our relationship. We have yet to share consoles though... Not planning on it til the 2 year mark at least.

When I play I don't get any negative comments for being a girl. People seem sort of delighted, actually.

i'm a girl - i game - i havent had any of that rubbish. Actually my take is random enough to not give my gender away and I dont use teamspeak.
actually, that being said I was playing SC online and once they found out I was a girl they were overly impressed, I'm not the best SC player in the world but because I was competent and FEMALE that upped my points.

Boys still hate getting beat by girls - thats never changed
that is very true, but many guys hate getting beat by other guys, they just hate getting beat period. (I say this because I know a guy who that fits perfectly. He is way competitive.)

What? Since when have there been females on the internet? (sarcasm) No though I have a few girls on my XBL friends list and they rock. Seriously one of them is the one of the best bloody Uziel pilots I have seen

If there is a girl that is good at games, i'm fine with that. If there is a very sexy girl who is good at video games and smart, will you marry me?
looks like youre never getting married
I've met one. Well, at least she WAS sexy. Now she's still a gamer, but rather chubby. She's a kickass fighting game player, she's quick to grasp 2-3 basic moves that are effective and safe and she sticks to that. However, she's dreadful at Survival Horror, RTS, and any other things that requires deep thinking.

I've meet about two girls on XBL that actually talk in all of the four years I've had an account. When I play WoW though, I play a with and against a lot of girls; probably about 1/3 of the people I know on WoW are girls. I really don't get the big deal about seeing a girl play a video game because most of the girls on WoW I know are the highest levels.

i agree, this is more of a statement than a discussion topic. however its a very well thought out and sincere statement so I was very happy to read it.

As far as the topic goes, I like seeing girls gaming. and its particularly nice to see them playing something like an fps instead of just casual games. There's a pretty interesting play value video on the subject that I thought was cool. check it out.

http://www.onnetworks.com/videos/play-value/women-in-gaming?autoplay=true

"there are more female gamers over the age of eighteen than male gamers under eighteen." that totally blows my mind.

Well the truth is I wish there where more girl gamer's, even though they obviously exist, I never seem to meet them. A good example is the course that I'm doing (computer games development), there's one girl on the course I mean COME ON!

So what exactly is the OP trying to say? Stop treating me unfairly online because you think I'm a girl, but girls are cool?

?

Man up, if you have issues with people misrepresenting your gender then correct them or ignore them. Do you think they are spending any time questioning your gender as much as you are? Probably not.

The specific treatment you are referring to happens to many people and it's not usually because of some mixed up sexist attitudes, although they exist. You want shit, go get it before they do, regardless of what gender other people assume you are.

I think you are looking for excuses for why folks are asshats online in general. Asshats simply are, accept that and play on.

How do different sexual organs affect your hand-eye coordination...?
I really don't care, you know what, little demon children and drunk frat-boy-assholes piss me off more than anything.

If the only thing that you can use to bond with a potential partner is video games, you should probably consider not bothering. You might find they have other interests that conflict with games.
