i'd like to meet some more gamer girls. i've meet 1 in the past 6 months and even though she's close to my age, she acts like she's 15 which annoys me to no end. i just avoid her
You know, I've noticed this too, I know other girl gamers and, well I feel bloody ashamed to know them because they're acting like ditzy retards just to get attention. Not that many I'm glad to say, but they do make me cringe.
it's almost like an exterm with them. this particular one i was talking about is full of drama. it's the same with women that are in to anime. they are overly consumed by it and act like retards and it's just a huge turn off....in the sense you're ok if you never see/hear that anime and or game name again
as far as the gamer girls go and gaming. a vast majority of the ones i meet on a whim play WoW and they feel playing that for 8 hours a day makes them a gamer. no hate on wow.
I think with anime girls, they're emulating their favourite character because they're obviously not interesting enough to get noticed by the man-folk, but most girls like that are all about the drama and attention.
I used to play WoW, but it never felt like a game to me (not in a weird 'WoW=life' way) it just never felt game-y to me.
i play wow in short burst. i play for like 2 maybe 3 weeks. cancel my account and let it set there and collect dust for abotu 3 months. my highest character is a lv 32...and i just got there.
but i recently had a conversation/argument with a "girl gamer" who only plays wow. she claimed to me she wasn't totally consumed by WoW. i told her she is so far off from being a gamer girl it's not even funny. then quoted her on how just last week she bought parts to make a kick ass computer just to play WoW then almost cried that she might not be able to play next month. I properly told her that she might as well never play any other game seeing she bases her entire life off wow and the last thing the gaming culture needs is another body encouraging developers to be lazy. make some crap that will never fly and piss off everyone else. needless to say she wasn't happy with that statement
Lmao!
I just can't understand how people can get like that about games. They need a good talking-to when they do though. I knew a girl like that, but she was like it with every MMORPG she could find, gaia, Flyff, and the worse thing was she tried to get everyone else to download them.
I'm not that much of a dedicated gamer, but I can tell when people take it too far.
I'll be honest. i was a big Everquest fan. the first one. i loved it, it was fun. but then they just got boring. so i've been there. i've done that and i know what it's like to be consumed by a game. but i never got to the point where i was so consumed i told people i wasn't addicted.
but my life has been abotu games sense i was 5. i love games. i mean, I got in to 3D animation just to try to get into the industry. I'm a pretty big Final Fantasy fan at that. but even with Final Fantasy i have my limits. i've known people (oddlly enough another woman) who is so into the game she spent 700 bucks just for the import of the special Edition Crisis Core PSP and she never beat the game because it was all in japanese. for a good month there. i didn't want to hear anything about final fantasy because she killed it for me.

I'll never stop getting drawn in by Pokemon games >_< and I'm a sucker for the Sims. My mum got a Sega Megadrive in the 80's, so I've literally grown up with some sort of games machine. Of course I'm a whizz at platformers and the like because that's all I played when I was younger, then of course we played that and the SNES for YEARS until the Playstation came along.
I never liked Final Fantasy for the same reason, all the friends I had made a huge fuss about it, but it bored me. I downloaded Final Fantasy 3 & 6 for my bf to play on me DS and I've not been interested enough to play them at all.

same here. there was always something around to play. but i love RPGs i love story telling and RPGs tell the best stories. final fantasy tends to tell the best ones. there are others. Grandia, Star Ocean, a few others. but even more, it's the JRPGs i love the most. I'm the only one of my friends that gets all school boyish when a final fantasy game in the actually line comes so needless to say i'm sitting here waiting for FF13 and FFv13 to come out after the disappointment that was FF12

Yea, I do like the RPG's, specially one's where you can give people stupid names. I played a final fantasy game on the playstation and gave them names like Poopy and Crapface.
But, I have to say, I love the games where you look after things but as long as it has some sort of plot, like pokemon, digimon (i was mind-boggled when I found there was a Digimon game for the DS), Monster Rancher (Cannot wait for that to be on DS, it's on it's way, apparently), games like that. I'm not mad enough to get nintendogs or anything.

lmao more games should let you name things. I'd make a game where it lets you name EVERYTHING... though that'd probably be as far as I get... I'm a bit lazy like that.

I concur 100%, there have been many games that I have cleared waaay before any of my male friends....a fact that does not sit well with them, but they must simply accept!
At times, there have been times when I've had to clear certain parts for them.....and these guys are pretty adept at gaming...

When I play online I usually act pretty normal when playing around gamers I know are girls. This is mostly because I'm not an total jerk. But it always happens that when I act kind or normal to girl gamers other guys call me out for just trying to "score" or some shit. Maybe it's because I have a younger sister or something, but I always try to act friendly around girls online (maybe cause I know they get so much crap most of the time).

I would also suggest going on RoosterTeeth and getting their "How come i never get the sniper rifle shirt" ----- it's awesome. And yes, many girls are better than me at gaming....which is sometimes frustrating, haha

Gamer girls are really annoying in my opinion. I really dont like them "treading on our territory" Especially the ones that think they're so fucking special just because thay are a girl.
Enjoy beating off for the rest of your life.

But yeah, that's a big reason for why I don't play online much.
I actually barely know any girls online, though that's probably coincidence. If I did, I would frag her the same as I would frag any guy.
In Gears of War, I happened to be playing with a college aged girl.
Her college friends and boyfriend were on her team.
Whenever I killed her, her teammates would yell at me and report me for disorderly conduct.

Frankly, I think it's the standards the players set that keep most girls from gaming.

i'd like to meet some more gamer girls. i've meet 1 in the past 6 months and even though she's close to my age, she acts like she's 15 which annoys me to no end. i just avoid her
You know, I've noticed this too, I know other girl gamers and, well I feel bloody ashamed to know them because they're acting like ditzy retards just to get attention.
I'm not mad enough to get nintendogs or anything.
that was so fun to do. in final fantasy 7. my first play through. i named barrett FatAss. then he sat there and cussed the whole time. i might as well have laughed the entire 80some hours of playing the game
lmao more games should let you name things. I'd make a game where it lets you name EVERYTHING... though that'd probably be as far as I get... I'm a bit lazy like that.
and they actually use your name in the game and don't call you something stupid....we kinda took this thread over

I remember waaay back, my girlfriend playing Gears Of War. Anytime she played, when I next logged in I'd have 75,000 friend requests. Girls are still something of a novelty online, and games create quite a unique environment for social interaction. Anthropologists would be fascinated watching lone women in games.

Raise your hand if you pretended to be a girl in WoW to get hand outs.

"I can has monies? YAY!!1! Hehe! ;D"

I'm all for being courteous to the opposite sex in gaming, but I don't go anywhere beyond that. If they're being retarded, I'm gonna call them out on it. If they're being bitches, I'm gonna call them out on it. If they beat my ass two ways from Sunday, I'm gonna give them mad props, go back to training, and then ask for a rematch as soon as I'm ready to exact my glorious comeback.

Girl Gamers are humans too. Treat 'em accordingly.

Tip: I've become close friends with probably twenty girls online (yes, I know they're girls, don't go there.) They seem to play MMOs a lot.
Specifically, WoW.
My girlfriend plays alot of WoW, but so do alot of other women, which doesn't bode well for the stereotypes, due to WoW being a very easy, very bad game.
I don't think girls are any worse at games or anything, I have just yet to meet one who can competently play anything other that WoW or the Sims.

I'm still wondering why some people apparently see this happen all the time. I have played something like 6 different female characters in WoW, and never once gotten flirted at, never mind free monies and mad lootz. Plus I haven't seen anyone else get anything for free, not that it's the sort of thing anyone would typically announce aloud.

So is this thing
- a US server feature
- dependent on having a NE/BE/human character, or
- due to some people having figured out particularly well-working ways to communicate IRL female status to male teenagers in-game?

Let's be honest, a team mate is a team mate and an opponnant is an opponnant regardless of gender.
