Raise your hand if you pretended to be a girl in WoW to get hand outs.

"I can has monies? YAY!!1! Hehe! ;D"
I'm still wondering why some people apparently see this happen all the time. I have played something like 6 different female characters in WoW, and never once gotten flirted at, never mind free monies and mad lootz. Plus I haven't seen anyone else get anything for free, not that it's the sort of thing anyone would typically announce aloud.

So is this thing
- a US server feature
- dependent on having a NE/BE/human character, or
- due to some people having figured out particularly well-working ways to communicate IRL female status to male teenagers in-game?
I would say your best bet is a NE or BE and a populated US server. Full of teens. Sad, sad teens...

Honestly, you don't even have to sound like a girl. It boggles my freakin mind.

Gamer girls are really annoying in my opinion. I really dont like them "treading on our territory" Especially the ones that think they're so fucking special just because thay are a girl.

What the hell do you mean "Our territory"? One of the best DOA players out there is a girl, and half the girls I know can beat my ass at everything but Halo3. Don't go saying that games are guys territory, you're just showing blatant ignorance. Go online, find a girl, and if she doesn't beat your ass, you haven't found a girl.

And to reply to the Gay post. Yes, sorry about that, some guys are really happy with looooong locker rooms. Like Bjork says (singer) , "everyone is bi to some degree", but THAT IS NOT WHAT THIS POST IS ABOUT, SO DONT COMMENT.

I would also suggest going on RoosterTeeth and getting their "How come i never get the sniper rifle shirt" ----- it's awesome. And yes, many girls are better than me at gaming....which is sometimes frustrating, haha
I am sooooo going to get that shirt, thanks man.

I suppose I could buy that Penny is a pretty gay nickname. You do know that it is short for Penelope, yes?

Here's a thought, ignore the rabble or tell them you're not as girl if it bothers you that much (or change your screen name, I mean come on, why would anyone call you Penny? Because you like to put pennies on railroad tracks? Because your name is Spencer?).

Sexism does exist in the world, and the mature and hugely romantic norms of gamers does often lead to "Hey, hey, first one to shoot ten bots gets toples pics of ***" and other grotesque taunts I have been privvy too. BUt depending on the gamer and the game, you can escape a lot of that. My avatar is always female, and I never b ring up the subject of real life gender. I've met tons of girls on line as a result (assuming I am a woman I suppose)

No I've never dated any of them, nor do I lie if asked or it does come up. Personally, I am likely never going to encounter these people outside the game environment, so it doesn't really matter in my mind. If we form an online friendship that may be meaningful in some way I'm not going to hide who I am and do understand mistakes. By the time the subject comes up in that situation it doesn't matter, we're already friends.

More people should handle their gaming worlds like that.

yeah, most girls I know who play online ALWAYS get ripped on for some reason.

I guess its because most people who play online just don't know how to talk to girls. Those poor bastards.

I have like 3 girls on my friends list, and all are pretty good.

I used to play FEAR online regularly with a girl. And in the rare occasions she didn't take first place she was definitely second. Didn't matter how many people were in the room she kicked ass and took names.

My gamer tag doesn't really reveal anything, so most often nobody knows my gender, which is good. I sometimes get this treatment when people find out, but in all honesty it just gives me something to prove and makes me play that much harder.
One trend I find far more annoying is people babying you and helping too much. Weather they think you cant play and need the help, or just are trying to be nice to you because your female, it can get rather annoying. Extra help is sometimes good, but most often I would just like to play the game like everyone else.
In short I get along with those of you who treat female gamers no different and you best not go easy on me because i'm a girl, cause I won't be doing the same for you :p

Why should people have a problem with a female gamer? Or even make a big deal about it? Games are aimed at guys because, lets face it, the majority of gamers are male. Doesn't mean the games need to read "You must have at least one Y chromosone to play this game".

If there is a girl that is good at games, i'm fine with that. If there is a very sexy girl who is good at video games and smart, will you marry me?
You, sir, are like a poet :p

dude, I onced faced a girl on Dead or Alive 4 online... she wooped my ass so badly, I just felt owned... is it odd that I find that kind of hot?

anyway, The girl gamers I do know are pretty good, although most prefer to just not use their mics online unless they are playing with friends, mainly because of all the shit they deal with from assholes.

Female gamers, like their male counterparts, can have any of a wide range of personalities. To think you can lump them all together in one category is moronic.

Well not all, I have a girl-gamer friend who can beat me in anything but PC shooters, and I don't hate it/care.

I don't think that gaming girls are superior or inferior to guys in anyway, but if there's one stereotype I somewhat adhere to, it's that gaming girls a one-in-a-million. You can claim all you'd like that there are plenty of women who play video games and fine, I could agree with that, but it just doesn't change the fact that there aren't that many of them.

And no, I'm not talking about chicks who aren't boring and would pick up the controller every once in a while, I mean the ones that know about all the new shit and would most likely beat you at it. That's why I think it's exceptional when I occasionally do find them, as they tend to be more open-minded and have an interesting personality.

sadly, the only girl I've met on an fps (that i can veify was a girl because they had a mic) was a crazy racist who kept telling me to "get your n****r ass on the motherf*****g mogoose before I start team kiling".

So really can't say myself, although I've never had a problem shooting a girl online anymore than shooting a guy, so whatever.

In real life, I'll note that of the 40 or so girls I know, none of them are gamers in the FPS sense. a couple of them have nontendogs, but I don't count that.

Hum, I think the current atmosphere comes from the fact that video games are a niece culture. They tend to attract a cut off group of people who share a private interest(or at least they used to). Girls tend to be more social, so they don't often end up in a niche that guys have to stick with because they don't belong elsewhere. That has lead to the higher percentage of guys in gaming. A lack of female presence for many years lead guys to get believe that only guys can game and thus the current sexist atmosphere (my theory is larger then that, but I'm not going to post a big wall of text here.)
