Orks is never beaten in battle.
If we win, we win.
If we die, we'z dead, so it don't count as a beat.
An' if we run away, we can always come back for anuvva go, see? WAAAAAAaaAaAaAAAAGH ORKZ!

OT - You know, I reckon this could work if they used an adaption of the Mass Effect 2 combat system. That did cover and melee pretty well and, let's face it, Orks and Imperial Guard don't really have "powers", they just get bigger guns :p

Oh GOD YES!! I know they had a Gorkamorka game in the works before they decided to scrap the entire game, but if they still have it knocking around, it was basically the same game, just without the vehicles.

Sounds like a good idea, but I'd replace the Orks with the Tau, and make Orks a second PvE raction, with the Tyranids.

You know what I think?

I think they should try and aim to make this game along the veins of a little MMOFPS that came out a few years back. Anyone remember PlanetSide? Anyone?

I actually think that a way to make an MMO work is to adapt the basic gameplay formula from games like BFBC:2.

No actual levels, only ranks. You rank up by getting kills and doing missions. Higher Ranks mean better gear. HOWEVER! Even if you are wearing the best gear, someone who has turned the game on for the very first time and only has the starting gun can kill you. It may be harder for them to do than if they had equivalent equipment, but still infinitely possible.

I think that could make these sorts of games a little more fun.

That already existed, Planetside. And it was goooooooood. (until the community died.)

And here we have the same problem as star wars games: If the Jedi/Space Marines are anything less than overpowered, it's innacurate.

If I'm playing as a Space Marine, I'm going to want to feel powerful. I am a superhuman, eight foot tall killing machine. But eventually a time will come where "I just died because I was attacked by three disgruntled hive rats at once".

It happened in Warhammer Online as well. I didn't feel like I was an all powerful fire mage, I felt like I was getting my ass handed to me because I was attacked by 2 thief's, who meleed me to death.

Until MMO's can get over the whole "Go out and kill shit until you level up enough to get this quest and wear this armour, I'm not going to bother with them.
Absolutely right. Space marines already have some of the best armour in the universe. No unlock needed. Unless you started as a recruit and worked your way through to scout etc. However, that seems too involved for an mmo.

I suspect, as others have suggested, that an inquisition story arc (a la inquisitor - the rpg) would work best.

I've been saying this for years, it or Mordheim would work brilliantly. Gang warfare in a gigantic hive city? Yes please.

I really hope they don't let us play as Space Marines. As much as it would rock, they'd be hopelessly unbalanced and overpowered... Maybe as support chars on rare occasions (such as storming a stronghold [read: dungeon]). I could see this working if they were to let us play as, say, neophytes of the Inquisition, low-tier Mechanicus adepts, rogue traders and scoundrels, members of the Adeptus Arbites, and so on. PLEASE, no Imperial Guard either! Those guys work as an army, which is great for RTS but virtually impossible to implement as a playable class in an MMO. Necrons and Tyranids would make sense as enemies, but not as playable factions because they have no personality or individuality whatsoever.
So...the only playable faction would be the Eldar?

If you can't be a Space Marine, then what's the point? Anyway, SM and IC have been reported, so you're out of luck.

As far as Planetside, there's a classic balance issue from that game that applies here. The Terran Republic always benefited from having more people. TR vehicles tended to require more people to fully operate, but a fully crewed tank or car would have more firepower than the enemy equivalents. The problem they always had is that the TR wasn't exactly the most popular side, and (at least when I played) was severely undercrewed. I think to successfully pull of IG, you'd need to have NPCs.

How in the hell do you play as Orks in an MMO? They are, in essence, football hooligans. They're barely organised, how do you give out missions for that?
They were quite effective in age of reckoning.

Gotta say though I think I would be playing as either Orks or Chaos. Though I realy want Tyranids.

Glad to see we'll finally get official info and coverage on the game at this year's E3, until now I was quite sceptical this was anything more than a rumor.
I would not rule out the space marines if Chaos is in the game. They may mirror each other allowing your character to "grow" into one. (i know that doesn't make much sense but hey)

Given that there are literally millions of IG regiments, each with its own combat doctrines and specializations, I don't see how IG would be a problem at all.

It would indeed be awesome if one could do the whole process of becoming a Space Marine. I'd implement trials between players, and only a couple would be selected for Space Marine training. After that, you'd play as a Scout for a good while, before becoming an Astartes. Once a Space Marine, you could select your role, tactical, assault or devastator, and after a while, you would gain enough veterancy to use Terminator armour.

Finally, if killed while being a veteran, you would be given the option to be interred in a dreadnought.

Obviously, none of this will actually be implemented, but hey... one can dream.

I think Space Marine should be in it, but not as a starting character. You could start of as a basic human Guardsman and once you get high level/rank enough you unlock some sort of side quest that lets you train to join a Space Marine chapter.

I think the idea of a W40k MMO could be really good, then again it could be awful. I';; keep and eye of how this progresses.
