If you are interested in 40k games i found this an interesting read: http://uk.pc.ign.com/articles/108/1080371p1.html

Everything I have heard about this puts it in good stead, one point i'd like to make is that the factions as far as i heard leave the potential for expansions very open, Tau can set up an expeditionary fleet, Dark eldar could raid from somewhere outside the original games system, Necrons could appear on isolated planets after the nids have finished with them. In fact i think the idea of using Tyranids as the pve race is ingenious, the only race that could adapt to pretty much any type of planet, and they don't really suit the idea of a human player anyway.
Plus it means players get to try and fight carnifexes...WIN!

You know... I'd break my only gaming rule and play this mmo in order to get some ork dakka in the brain of the closest space marine.

Yeah, I'm not really sure why Necromunda isn't a video game yet. I can only assume the good folks at GW are too stupid to make it.
I think that's because its not one of their "main stream" games, so they will probably ignore it for all eternity...
Well, yeah. It's been left to rot along with every other small-scale game that doesn't require the player to buy little people until their wallets bleed. But since that's not an issue with video games, I'm really not sure what the issue is beyond 'we're not dealing with that IP any more'. Hells, they stuck Blood Bowl straight onto the PC and it worked out fine. Not that Necromunda would work out well with such a straight conversion, but it's certainly an excellent setting, ripe for development into an MMO, team shooter, whatever. Well, maybe not a team shooter. We'll let Gorkamorka do that. Reskin TF2 and pretend we invented it.

Make it a MMOFPS like Planetside, where your advancement isn't in levels but vehichles/troop upgrade you get with a mechanic similar to certification point. For the more powerful waregear/abilities, you could couple it with some sort of rank/command rank requirement. I guess you could even go as far as having a class distinction within each army list and have individual advancement for each class, though that greatly increases the ongoing effort to "balance" things.

WHY JUST MMO's?

Imagine how awesome a regular RPG set on a hive planet/or just in space would be.

I just hate paying monthly subscription fees and, simply WONT.

I have been waiting for this impatiently ever since it was announced. I am a massive fan of 40K fluff and will almost certainly buy this at launch, however crap it turns out to be. Ideally, I'd like to be a Carnifex, but I can see why Tyranids wouldn't really work for this sort of game. So I'll just have to choose between Eldar, Orks and Chaos. Although if I have the chance to be one of the Emperor's Children then it's Chaos all the way. Unless "Imperium" includes Grey Knights. Or unless "Eldar" includes Warp Spiders. Goddamnit, this is hard. I'll just have to be everything. At once.

Where are you getting this info, BTW? What exactly are you quoting?
Gamesradar, if I'm not mistaken.

From this source: http://mmofocus.se/index.php/2010/02/19/warhammer-40k-online/
Subscription fees look to be about $13 so about £8.50 a month which will probably go down a lot on the large deals.

This has been in the works for years now, I'm not saying I've allowed myself high hopes, just that they really could pull this off.

Just keep in mind if they do make Space MEHREENS, you KNOW they have to be balanced, and will most certainly not be capable of killing entire guilds of players by themselves.

Sounds awesome! but one little thing: No Eldar?! I am sad now.
Did you read the OP? It's right there as one of the four playable races!

How in the hell do you play as Orks in an MMO? They are, in essence, football hooligans. They're barely organised, how do you give out missions for that?
Kill things, nick their stuff. Team up with other orks to kill more things and nick more stuff.

Im kinda interested in this but there are so many things that could go wrong with it. Im actually willing to pray space marines are NOT playable in this game (fat chance) They start out as quite simply too powerfull.

Ya know what I would love to see from Games Workshop? A Necromunda MMORPG
Necromunda would make more sense but I think you and I are the only two people who remember it. 40k is more marketable.

Also you forgot the greatest ork mission: you need to find this missing flashy gubbins, then find a mekboy who will use it to make your kart faster/gun louder.

If I sign onto this (and I never play MMOs), I will probably play as an ork.
However, I wish they came out with this before 5th edition. They kind of lost me around that time. Not just the rules for 5th edition, it was also the fact that they gimped out chaos (the force I usually fought against), the price hike and laziness of the White Dwarf publication, and the disappearance of Lost and the Damned.

I hope to god this doesn't suck. It better have proper combat. And ragdoll physics. If I can't smack an Ork in the forehead with a thunder hammer and watch him fly into a pillar, his mangled body wrapping around it like some sort of obscene decoration, they've done it wrong. This 40k; you have to get the little things right.

Also, I want to be able to play as a Kroot. And eat people and mutate and stuff. Good times.

Amen to that. I want to see a good singleplayer RPG.

The same way you get football hooligans to learn chants, sing songs and throw insults at the ref. It's an arcane and mysterious process, but I believe beer is involved.

OT: Let's hope this MMO doesn't go the way of Warhammer Online. I'm hoping, at least.

Lets hope they do, and learn from WAR mistakes.

Orks have Klans, which would give plenty possibilities for missions.
