Glory to the first man to die! Chaaarge!! Use your bayonets, use your bloody bayonets!

I love the IG (in DoW, that's all I know about WH40k) and would propably play as them.

I'd love to play a 40k MMO, but the only question that i want answered is "will necrons be involved in anyway?".
I'll second that.

In fact... I'm hoping that they'll be a playable race at some point.

I think Space Marine should be in it, but not as a starting character. You could start of as a basic human Guardsman and once you get high level/rank enough you unlock some sort of side quest that lets you train to join a Space Marine chapter.

I think the idea of a W40k MMO could be really good, then again it could be awful. I';; keep and eye of how this progresses.
Unfortunately that would go against the fluff. Guardsmen are too old to start Astartes training, as it takes a very young person to withstand the implants.

FOR THE EMPEROR! HOLD THE LINE! If this make this in FPS form rather than point and click form it will be epic.

I thought ot was they have to be young, but sort of early twenties'ish at most. Either way I think it would be the most sensible way of implimenting the Space Marines.

If this is anything, and I do say ANYTHING like any of the following:

World of Warcraft
Warhammer Online
Conan online
EvE online
Ultima Online
Anarchy Online
Star Trek online

then it will be shit.
This kind of level-up based press-1-to-slash-2-to-bludgeon-3-to-heal-hotbar health points mana points arbitrary stats equipment-means-everything point-and-click fuckshit has been done to death and the market is literally being SATURATED with it.

Hell, you can barely do a web-search without being assaulted by chinese/korean wow-clones.

IF wh40k online is to be AT ALL any more interesting than watching paint dry then it either needs to be some kind of 1st person Shooter/Mount&Blade/3d person adventure hybrid, or a multiplayer driven strategic carbon copy of the table top wargame.
I actually think that a way to make an MMO work is to adapt the basic gameplay formula from games like BFBC:2.

No actual levels, only ranks. You rank up by getting kills and doing missions. Higher Ranks mean better gear. HOWEVER! Even if you are wearing the best gear, someone who has turned the game on for the very first time and only has the starting gun can kill you. It may be harder for them to do than if they had equivalent equipment, but still infinitely possible.

I think that could make these sorts of games a little more fun.
This, its the only way this will work as an MMO. I'd love to see another MMOFPS because I have fond memorys of Planetside...until the expansions.

Maybe at a later date, but implement them as some sort of high-level uber threat that are bad-ass like the real Necrons.

And I don't know why there is all the hate for WoW, it is one of the best systems I feel for an MMORPG, it would work, it has ranged combat and melee, it implements PvP really well, they'd just have to mod it alil so no of the sides are allied, which would be easy given the sheer size of the WH40K uni. Heck loads of MMORPG's copy it to some degree (I know they copied it of another one, but are all the best things in life new?) so I hope its like WoW and not one of those other kind that havn't used that system.

I also like the Nid's being a full PvE faction, it would be like playing a Murloc or Gnoll, just pointless and what would the mission be? Go to X kill all the inhabitants, no need to report back cause your hive minded, actually that would be kinda sweet....

Ya know what I would love to see from Games Workshop? A Necromunda MMORPG
Yeah, I'm not really sure why Necromunda isn't a video game yet. I can only assume the good folks at GW are too stupid to make it.

How in the hell do you play as Orks in an MMO? They are, in essence, football hooligans. They're barely organised, how do you give out missions for that?

I think that's because its not one of their "main stream" games, so they will probably ignore it for all eternity...

I dont know why everyone is saying that if space marine were implimented they would have to be the best thing on two legs to stay true to the fluff. Compared to the guard space marines are awesome but compared to the enemies of the imperium space marines arent really that special.

Space marine - Necron warrior - Specialised Eldar (i.e warp spider/banshee/etc) - big tryanid - chaos space marine

All of them are on the same sort of power level, a game like this could easily be balanced in game and fluff wise in my opinion.

On a side note, if i can play as eldar and get anywhere near a d-cannon then i'll be one happy bunny. You get hit by a d-cannon and its game over, no matter what you are.

So...the only playable faction would be the Eldar?

If you can't be a Space Marine, then what's the point? Anyway, SM and IC have been reported, so you're out of luck.
There are things of interest in W40k besides SM and IG, you know.
I'll still probably end up playing it anyway.

I would not rule out the space marines if Chaos is in the game. They may mirror each other allowing your character to "grow" into one. (i know that doesn't make much sense but hey)
That might actually work. Once your character has reached a certain level and accomplished a certain number of specific tasks, they could be collected in a Space Marine chapter's recruitment drive. It's certainly not unheard of in the canon.

ether that or your guardsman settles down on a conquered planet and starts a family, has a son, and the son is caught up in a Space Marine recruitment drive and you play on from there. I think it would make more sense then suddenly "Hey you! *poof* Your a Space Marine now!" after all you don't just turn into a Space Marine overnight, its a long and painful process!

actually why do I care? Just let me be ether a Inquisitor, Eldar, or a Tau in a battle suit and I'll shut up and start shooting!

That's how. Or maybe a shitton of turf wars.

I'm just happy to hear that Chaos are in it!
