I can't wait to play an Imperial soldier!

Being an indoctrinated nationalist/ cannon fodder has always been my dream! Dying in thousands to kill a single space marine, coming in a world of gigantic bio-monsters and gigantic men in super space suits wearing just a uniform and carrying a useless laser pointer gun to die for the emperor woooo.

On an unrelated note, can you be a red shirt in Star Trek?

And the day they get around to implementing the Tau, I will be a happy panda. Till then, I'll keep tabs on this. Might get interesting.

They've got a massive amount of lore to lean on..

How in the hell do you play as Orks in an MMO? They are, in essence, football hooligans. They're barely organised, how do you give out missions for that?
"Ya dos 'ummies? Go krump 'em 'eads!"
I NEEDZ MORE KNOW-WOTZ TER BUILD ME SUPA-DAKKA-BLASTA! BRING ME A PILE O' DEM WIERDBOY BRAINZ AND I'll GIVE YER A NEW SHOOTA!

SHUT IT YA GIT.

Nah, I can't see Orks really working as an MMO race.

I hope the game just gives out increasingly large hats and shoulder pads instead of numbered levels.

If this is anything, and I do say ANYTHING like any of the following:

World of Warcraft
Warhammer Online
Conan online
EvE online
Ultima Online
Anarchy Online
Star Trek online

then it will be shit.
This kind of level-up based press-1-to-slash-2-to-bludgeon-3-to-heal-hotbar health points mana points arbitrary stats equipment-means-everything point-and-click fuckshit has been done to death and the market is literally being SATURATED with it.

Hell, you can barely do a web-search without being assaulted by chinese/korean wow-clones.

IF wh40k online is to be AT ALL any more interesting than watching paint dry then it either needs to be some kind of 1st person Shooter/Mount&Blade/3d person adventure hybrid, or a multiplayer driven strategic carbon copy of the table top wargame.
It's possible. Don't forget, it's specifically talking about an MMO, not an MMORPG.

I want it to be good.
But it will be bad.

If they will make it like, one IG vs one SM vs one orc (that is, balanced) than it will kill this universum for me.
Spacemarines are superhumans while IG are cheap "zerg the enemy" type of army.

I have realllly bad feelings about this one...

And Relic doing this? No armored vehicles?

Dunno, I have hope, but after warhammer online I'm cautious.

A Massively Multiplayer Online game set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe is currently in development, according to reports. The game will be announced officially at E3 in June of this year, where more information may hopefully be gleaned for the game.

However, until then, a list of possible features has been released, which includes

Playable factions:
?Imperium
?Eldar
?Orks
?Chaos

Features:
?Focus both on Melee and Long range Combat
?Covering system
?29 Zones (21 claimable, 8 invadeable)
?Open-World
?PvP around resource gathering and taking strategic points
?Center zone features a conquerable stronghold
?No playable Tanks or other Warmachines at release but implemented possibility for expansion
?Tyranids as full fighting PvE-Faction
Let's see where this leads us. I'm not an MMO person (I only played Warhammer Online, and even then for a short while), but I'm on record as saying that the one MMO I'd play would be a 40K one. Seems like I'll have to make good on what I said.

Pax Imperialis.
Just wondering does it say anything about does Imperium include Marines? Also I don't see why they can't have everyone has a playable race I suppose leads way for expansions. Also I wouldn't mind levels as long it was Guild Wars style levels.

Unless they go the route of MMOFPSRPG ala Planetside, then it will be crap. Fair enough having some Third Person if you want to be Melee based (or a flying/jumping unit...) but 40k is about guns, and guns in MMOs tend to suck big time if you can't aim them at people.

I'd also hate to see 500 different types of boltgun with stats, a boltgun is a boltgun!!!

I really hope they don't let us play as Space Marines. As much as it would rock, they'd be hopelessly unbalanced and overpowered... Maybe as support chars on rare occasions (such as storming a stronghold [read: dungeon]). I could see this working if they were to let us play as, say, neophytes of the Inquisition, low-tier Mechanicus adepts, rogue traders and scoundrels, members of the Adeptus Arbites, and so on. PLEASE, no Imperial Guard either! Those guys work as an army, which is great for RTS but virtually impossible to implement as a playable class in an MMO. Necrons and Tyranids would make sense as enemies, but not as playable factions because they have no personality or individuality whatsoever.

Glad to see we'll finally get official info and coverage on the game at this year's E3, until now I was quite sceptical this was anything more than a rumor.

Not true. Pretty much every race has a variation of the boltgun, and even within the Space Marines you have master-crafted bolters, each unique, and in addition to that every single individual "normal" bolter is customized for and by its owner.

In addition to that, although ranged combar is the primary form of combat in 40K, close combat isn't that distant a second. In fact, to some races ranged combat is just a way to thin the enemy's ranks before getting to within sword's reach.

A new perspective might be good for the 40k universe, and when I think about it I think it would work quite well.

Wonder if it'll play like Tabula Rasa. I know it wasn't hugely popular, but it was pretty fun making firing lines and such, and gunning things to death as they charged you was an experience that never got old. Although that would make it harder to balance a guardsman to a space marine.

Unless, like someone suggested, you have a City of Villains mastermind style sergeant. That would be nifty. As you progress you could specialise your squad into veterans, storm troopers or fire support. Conjecture is fun :)

Ah well, as a former Games Workshopper I'm hyped for whatever they make, but secretly I'm hoping for the Tau expansion. Haven't had a mecha in an MMO since RF Online, and those crisis suits look so nice.

And I'm still waiting for the Gorkamorka MMO. That game so easily translates into an Online guild based grind fest it's like they designed it that way.
