Finally, a return the good old days of no camping, everyone is roaming the map simultaneously gameplay.

This game is sounding better and better as time goes on. I might even buy a Wii!

Sigh. It seems that, once again, I'm going to have to announce to my fellow Escapists that I have a highly controversial opinion that they generally won't agree with.

Namely: Camping is a perfectly legitimate strategy. It might be annoying, but frankly, the only reason it's annoying is because it works so well.

The best counter to camping is good map design. It only becomes an overpowered strategy when the map has a perfect spot which can only be attacked from one angle.

In most cases, people complaining about camping is just another case of people complaining about strategy.

Everybody should be made aware, before they post about how shit this game is, that the mode is just a mode. It is not a feature that runs constant through all gametypes.

3 Seconds is a little harsh, what if you step away from the controller for a minute? Maybe they should change it to about 30 seconds.

I don't like it.

Camping is the most realistic action anyone would do in such a situation. And I like to pretend I'm really in those games, I'm a role player. Noone sane would openly run around.

Stop ruining my perfectionistic desire for realistic actions!

Too bad if you want to snipe.
Besides, this. I'm also a sniper.
When was 007 ever meant to be realistic?

I think it's nice that they do something to try to keep camping to a limit at least. I might buy this when it comes out, I loved the original Goldeneye.

False. Games are fun, or should be. If the game is not fun, it is a poorly-designed game.

Competition is fun when the odds are even AND the game is MOVING. When everyone is just sitting around waiting for everyone ELSE to make the first move, it's called a Cold War (ie, the most boring kind of war). Camping is one of those emergent behaviors in games that fails the "what if everyone did it?" test of whether or not it is good for a game.

The same problem plagues paintball and Nerfing groups, and it's why they work against it. The game becomes very BORING and PREDICTABLE because of the "strategy" of camping. Nothing about camping promotes fun, variety, or challenge in a game. It promotes imbalance and stagnation.

Is it a good strategy to use in an ACTUAL war, where the goal is to win NO MATTER WHAT? Sure. But in a game, it's just bad gameplay.

Couldn't the campers just dance back and forth in one spot instead?
Yep. haha. My idea: They make it a bit more than 3 seconds and give you a radius of a few feet that you can't stand in for more than the given time.

Three seconds? So that means if I have to sneeze or something I can't even stand still for a few seconds? I don't like this.

Actually, that was my exact idea.
I didn't put it down because I wanted to be a little snappier. ;)
So woo, great minds and all that!

First thing I thought of as well. Small movements back and forth within a small area.

Ok; a few things.

1. To the people complaining that 3 seconds means if you're distracted by a conversation/need to leave the room/whatever you'll die. I'm sorry but if you take your eyes off the ball for a long enough period for this to be a problem you'll be killed by another player regardless of whether you blow up or not, this game mode actually STOPS other players getting points from killing you while you're distracted.

2. To all the snipers complaining about this; really? You were planning on trying to snipe in a WII EXCLUSIVE game that is all about fast paced combat? The Wii isn't designed with snipers in mind, this game mode isn't designed with snipers in mind. Huh, funny that.

3. To camper defenders, just because you CAN do something doesn't mean you SHOULD do something. If all you care about is getting the most kills at the expense of everyone else having fun, then you probably aren't planning on playing many Wii games so why complain about this one?

4. To everyone who says that this will turn it into a run and gun game and henceforth lose all skill; you honestly think that all fast paced games turn into nothing but luck? Try telling that to the Timesplitters fans (possibly one of the most fast paced, not to mention FUN, FPS games of recent years). Of course it takes skill, just not a skill set that can be cultivated sitting in one spot with a sniper rifle in hand, just because it's not a skill you have doesn't mean it's not a skill.

5. Once again, the mode is optional. Don't like it don't play it. Simple.

Sorry but reading these comments really got on my nerves.

I guess realistic isn't the right expression. But it would be common sense to hide and try to shoot as many opponents as possible without being seen. As I said, I'm a role player.

3 seconds sounds a bit much. What if you're looking for a certain key/ button, or you're preparing to write something... or even just aim with a weapon. 10 seconds should be about right.
You do know it's a nintendo exclusive right? If it takes you three seconds to find a button on the wii remote you need a new hobby.
Not all people that own wiis are gaming pros you know. I'm sure you're aware that much of Nintendo's target audience are those that may not have usually bought videogames in the past.

My mum has recently got into Mario Kart: DD (gamecube). Whilst she's getting used to it now, it's taken her MONTHS to do well enough to start getting 1st place on 50cc because she finds the buttons quite complicated... should I want to get her into a game like Goldeneye, this 3 second rule doesn't make it very easy approachable for people like her.

Eurocom made Nightire.
Eurocom is making 2010 GoldenEye.

...I think we're safe...

Great! Reminds me of the time when FPS multiplayer was fun!

Would be better if you could change the time, so set it to ~7sec so people have time to accurately snipe (but not camp) or to 1sec for pure, manic fun.

EDIT: Since people don't get it:

1. This is optional. As a great man once said: "Complaining about extras make you a tosser."

2. This is less of a way to prevent camping and more of a way to make the match more frantic.

3. This is Goldeneye, not Call of Duty. The game plays very different, and isn't very sniper friendly in the first place.
Oh my god, this.

Did anyone really stopped to camp or anything in the original? I really doubt it. Goldeneye back then was really fast-paced. No one stood still for long, or they'd get their intestines replaced with bullets from my RPC-90. This really helps bring back the old multi-player gameplay.

I was just thinking the same thing. Just do the bare minimum to stay alive and you can continue making people rage quit.

Then again, what's this going to mean for snipers?
