I'm sure a sizable portion of this community has often played a game and their inner game designer came out and said "Why didn't they do it this way?" or "This game would be perfect if only they fixed this."

Simple rules:

1) This isn't for games that haven't aged well, we all wish FF7 looked like whatever Crytek just spewed out but let's not consider graphics as features.
2) This isn't for games you wish were in a separate genre (guy wishing FO3 was more FPS-y get out!)
3) This is for games you actually ENJOYED.
4) Try to limit the number of apples/oranges comparisons, some people like turn-based combat, some like real time, this is a preference, not a game design flaw

So give your personal input on a game you enjoyed but where you think you had a brilliant idea for how it could have been done "better"

I wish you could actually do stuff with the money you earn in Red Dead Redemption. Seriously, you can't walk 2 steps in that game without earning money because you shot a thief, or looted his corpse, or accidentally stepped on some wildlife, or picked up a flower, or won at horseshoes, or you completed one of those eerie fucked up stranger missions. Anywhere you go, anything you do, you get tons of money for it. And there's nothing to invest it on! Ammo and stat boosters are free all over and I'm pretty sure they cater to the player's needs. Health and Dead Eye regenerate pretty quickly anyway. Weapons are given as plot points so you don't even have to bother buying them. Horse breeds are purely cosmetic purchases, since you can whistle one for free at any moment. And there're maybe a couple of property purchases you can make, TOPS.

Love the game but I wish I had a better sense of purpose for taking up jobs and such.

I wish Oblivion had all the features they removed from Morrowind, and thus that Skyrim had alot of these features too. Morrowind had alot of variety that was culled, such as weapons, spells, soul gems and even potion bottles. Mark/Recall!

I wish Remember Me had more of the memory change sequences. Seriously they were the zenith of the game and if we had more than 4.5 (if you've played it you know why '.5') of them I think the game story would benefit more in the pacing department. Having more of them would allow us to have more than 1 in the first half of the game.

I also wish that the timer of the combo is increased because some of the enemies are ruthlessly unforgiving and don't allow you to hit them. The auto-lock on could also benefit from being a little more sensitive, because it really does lock-on.

I wish Borderlands 2 had better drop rates, or even guaranteed Legendary drops from all the bosses: it's awesome fun going around trying all the guns, but farming for them is a huge pain in the butt. Yes, I know I can just use the save editor (in fact I do use it), but I'd rather do that without third party programs, thank you.

Same deal with Dungeons Defenders, actually. Most people never even get to see any Mythical equipment, and those are the lowest of the high tier stuff, because Nightmare is, well a nightmare to get into since it's so different from all the other difficulties. They'd need to increase exp rate, item drop rate, but most importantly, item quality. Also, they'd need to make Nightmare maps actually doable without using a guide.

I wish Dishonored scrapped or at least defanged the chaos system.

Here's an amazing array of abilities and weapons to kill your enemies and dispose of their corpses. You may never use any of them. Also if you're spotted just reload, seriously.

Dragons Dogma should have had online co-op. I'm still reeling from how Capcom missed that one.

The server system/innate off-host lag that the Battle for Middle-Earth games had. Everything else was fairly fixable through patches of some sort, but that was one of the things they never really got fixed.

Yeah, this is why I stopped playing it. For a game that's pretty much all about scoring loot and finding guns, I felt like I was counting the number of times I actually came across a gun I wanted to use on my hands. Well, that and the fact that once you hit a certain point it becomes apparent that, just like the first one, the later game really isn't built around single player. I just wasn't having any fun by myself.

As for a suggestion of my own, I guess I'll go with Mass Effect 3. No, not for the reason you think. I thought 3 had the best gameplay of the trilogy, and certainly the best approach to weapons and unlocks. But there are elements of the first game I wish it could have kept. I hate those really obvious 'barriers' between areas with no enemies where your weapons are holstered and the fighting areas that (I think) will only ever spawn one of the three 'factions' of enemies.

I miss the slightly more open feel the first game had in areas like Feros, where you'd show up, shoot some geth, find some people, holster your weapons, have a quick chat and then proceed with the geth fighting. While cover placement still made a lot of the action areas obvious in the first game, it wasn't quite as jarring as ME3 was. Not to mention that ME 1 could have you fighting named individuals, or occasional biotics. Variety. Sure, there was more variety in the ways the AI acted in 3, but I still got frustrated fighting the same three groups of enemies the whole game. I also miss how, well, powerful leveled up powers made you in the first game. It really irked me that shields prevented using powers like lift or singularity, and that they damaged health even when they could work. There was very little reason to bother with things like crowd control because most of the powers just became a different way of killing people.

So, TL;DR - I wish Mass Effect 3 could have kept a few more of the less unctuous of ME1's gameplay mechanics.

I wish ZOE2 had a better difficulty curve.
The last boss was exorbitantly harder than everything before it.

I would love it if all Modern Military Shooters only let you play in Hardcore mode.

Ah the joy that would bring me...

I wish Mass Effect 3 didn't end the way it did. I wish it had an option to duke it out with the Reapers successfully. I'd want that to be the hardest ending to achieve, requiring you to play all 3 games and doing absolutely everything right. And the price for winning the ship to ship battle would be devastating. like say losing the Sol system, the bulk of humanity wiped out along with a huge chunk of the allied armies. I wish they'd use the weapons hinted at in ME1 to achieve this instead of conveniently forgetting a bunch of lore in favour of RGB we got.

I wish Chrono Cross had been longer.

Maybe some side missions for each character or something.
I love that game.

I wish P3 and P4 hadn't strayed away from the main formula. Yes, the life simulation, social links and improved capabilities were very nice additions.

The simple gameplay, single, huge dungeon so they don't have to have many different hallways and stairs, the 2 or 3 lines of battle dialouge being repeated over and over, the main characters having absoloutely no personality beyond one very basic aspect strected out into ~60 hours of conversation...

These games are riddled with crap. Not to mention, the plots aren't much to read over. In 3, the plot can be summarised as "bailing out on suicide halfway through to make fire and stuff, oh and bad science ruined everything". Yes, a very bad summarisation, but even then, the plot isn't that great. Persona 4 is probably worse here. It focused on the Social Links, and although they're better, the plot suffers even more for it.

Playing Mass Effect 2 was fun but that fell asleep quite a few times while scanning the damn planets.
The buggy sections in ME1 were pretty boring too but at least something happened.

I wish that Fire Emblem Awakening did a few things.
1) Got ported to Wii U.
2) Put in online multiplayer like Enemy Unkown.
3) Got a graphical makeover to fix some of the more jagged character models and give people actual feet instead of hooves.
4) Tweaked the balancing and difficulty to make it harder and tighter.
5) Changed some of the supports around so we get more LGBT romances.

No More Heroes. I like the game but it's quite flawed.

add a way to fast travel to jobs in no more heroes and fast travel in general. also make it's overworld smaller.
there is barley any content of value in the top prat of the map. so the area above the bridge and the bridge it self would be gone and the content of value and collectibles that was there would be spread out though renaming the overworld.

travel to job place, take job, travel to job, do job, travel back to job place, rinse and repeat until you have enough money to kill the next racked assassin, go though level and kill the interesting assassin character, then doing jobs again so you can kill the next ranked assassin. if you do a piss poor a the job mini game(make very little money) thing you still have to run back for a new one. The world is uninteresting to travel though and process getting and getting to jobs is a pain in the ass so fast travel would be nice.

I wish...

I wish ME1 had a more streamlined inventory system.
I wish Wet had a better combat system and a more likeable main character (Hell with Yahtzee, that game was pretty good otherwise and had great music)
I wish ME2 was more customizable.
I wish Fable had been everything Peter Molyneux had promised.
I wish Borderlands had a less steep difficulty curve. It feels like the game could be played solo up to a certain point, then it becomes much harder than is necessary or even fun if you're running solo.
I wish GTA4 had more of the sense of humor of San Andreas and Vice City.
I wish Skyrim wasn't quite so devoid of personality. Oblivion too, though Shivering isles helped mitigate that.
I wish FF8 hadn't [SPOILERS] had that story twist of all the characters growing up together [END SPOILERS]. Shit was stupid.
I wish God of War played at the speed of Devil May Cry.
I wish Burnout hadn't gone open world.
I wish Bioshock infinite wasn't a "swashbuckling adventure". I like Bioshock one's atmosphere and slightly slower but more manageable combat speed. I was in control of every battle in the first one, each movement flowed into the next and a modicum of strategy was rewarded with fluid combat. Infinite felt like call of duty with lightning powers.
I wish Remember Me wasn't such a goddamn mess. Great character, good story. Rushed game with clunky controls and a really neat gimmick that could have been so much more.
I wish Chrono Cross had more endings.
I wish Chrono Trigger was... No, I love Chrono Trigger just the way it is.
I wish Advance Wars, Door of Ruin was more like Advance Wars: Dual Strike. I don't need it to be edgy and grim.
I wish Fire Emblem Awakening would stop eating my life.
I wish timesplitters health system was a little less forgiving.
I wish FFX had a "mute Tidus" feature.
I wish Kingdom hearts had a "mute Sora" feature.
I wish FF7 and 8 had a "smack cloud" "smack squall" upside the head when they brood too much feature.
I wish ME3 had someway to unlock or upgrade the classes I want to play in multiplayer. Weapons should stay random.
I wish every pokemon since gold and silver was more like Red and blue. No berries, no fashion minigames. Simplicity isn't always a bad thing.
I wish NMH2 had more bosses and that the ending boss wasn't so boring.

if there was anything i could do to prompt a xenogears remake, i'd do it. what needs to change is disc 2. the whole thing. scrap that thing like it never existed and just rebuild the second disc properly.
