Wow, just wow, Kill those bastards. Don't even bother with the electric chair, or even a noose. Just shoot them. It's more than they deserve.

Sorry really quick technicality, LA country =/= LA. Small complaint but it bugged me a little that everyone is talking about LA when the article said Canyon Country. I am in and out of LA a couple times a week and I have no idea where this Canyon Country is.

OT. Jeepers kids these days. They should have just hocked the gun and got A LOT more money, and probably would not have gotten a guy killed.

lets kick it old testament style!... stone em'...

people like this are a waste of space, i feel bad for the man who lost his life, and the family that is now missing a member. they should be made to suffer, more to be an example to future idiots who don't respect human life.

A Nintendo DS is NOT worth a human life!

My sympathy goes out to the samaritan family.

Damn, that is messed up.

Good on that person for trying to protect the kid being robbed. I (hope that I) would have done the same in that situation, but damn, that's messed up.

The Samaritan was a real hero. Shame he had to die. Still hope I would have the courage to step in myself if it comes to it someday, or that another person would step in to save the life of a person I cared about.

I don't get the need for the gun if it was four people against one. What, was the gun for needed insurance? And where did the guy with the bat come from? An alley somewhere? "So I was just practicing my pitches to get into the league in the cafe nearby and noticed a man in trouble!"

Next we're going to find that the kids get away with it because "They were defending themselves from a guy who was trying to kill them with a bat."
So riddle me this now and riddle me that
From where the hell came the man with the bat?

OT: I find it hard to even form an opinion on this.

It does make me think we have some candidates in case we invoke pirate stye punishment again though. Keelhauling and such might be a fun experience for someone who thinks a gaming system is worth more than human life.

Well in most states a death related the commission of a felony is capital murder.
So the minors are probably going to be tried as adults.

The sad thing is: People have been killed for less than a Nintendo DS.

Just strap the shooter down in old sparky and fire that bad boy up. Saves time and money.

Death Penalty. It's a good solution in cases like these. Scum will always be scum no matter how much "help" you give them. But if you execute them, preffy in public. Then atleast there has been justice to the victims.
No, absolutely not. As stupid as those teenagers were and as bad as the crimes they committed were, they're still teens. Keep them far from society and make them learn the hard way; the guilt will get to them.
Besides, Capital Punishment is the worse deterrent on violent crime than regular imprisonment of criminals. It's costly, it's inhumane, it doesn't bring down crime rates in the long term, and it's used as an outlet for vengeance rather than actual justice.
Call me naive, but this isn't ancient Mesopotamia. You'd think that modern society would be sane enough to not spill four teenager's worth of blood after the blood of one person's been spilled already.

Ah teenagers... you're such a great part of our society.
Ahem. I'm 17. There are millions of other teenagers out there who have more sense than these four idiots.

Well, yes. I have to agree that they should be executed.

The point of prison is to remove people who can't/won't function in society, from society. However, killing someone over a $100 game system is...beyond 'can't function'.
Wow...to be honest I was expecting to be blasted with people saying how horrible I am for thinking such a thing and so on and so forth.

I'm quite plesantly surprised.
If it makes you feel better, I think you're horrible.

And this is why I'm afraid to use Craigslist.

This good samaritan is a hero. It's a shame he died... And all this over a DS? Come on! What the hell is wrong with those kids?!

These people are salvageable. Better people have come from worse.

Punishment. Rehabilitation.

But retribution? Extermination?
The thing about punishment and rehabilitation is that it been glamorized so much that kids don't see it as a big thing. They'll do their time, they MIGHT change and yet most go right back to doing stupid shit. Sometimes extreme measures are needed before people take the basic punishment, rehab seriously again and not go right back to doing that stupid shit that got'em into trouble in the first place. It's also a part of the government to make sure criminals can merge back into society right by giving them quality work.

People with gun access are much more likely to commit suicide because passing ideas can so quickly become permanent reality. Throw in the neurological restrictions on adolescents' abilities to have mature impulse control, it's an obvious recipe for disaster. I would have less remorse if the kids beat someone to death, or slowly killed someone. In those cases there's an intention to cause suffering for the sake of suffering.

A used DS split 4 ways is like 15 dollars each. What a fucking waste of time. Seriously, if you're stupid enough to kill someone for 15 dollars, you deserve to rot in prison. If they had a gun, why the hell didn't they rob a store or something that would yield more money or whatever? I just don't understand, if the kid needed such a small amount of money I'd give it to the idiot if it would literally save a life.

I would have hated to be the one selling the damn thing. Kid was just trying to sell the DS for maybe $50 that he probably would have spent on a new game. What did he get? Beat up, Shot in the leg, and witnessed a murder. Perfect. Just. Fucking. Perfect.
