Kaizers Orchestra

I highly doubt many people on this forum has heard about them. They are popular in Norway, and pretty well-known in europe considering that they sing in norwiegen.
Even if it's pretty much only skandenavians who can understand the lyrics, the music in the band is somewhat uniqe and quite good. Give a few tracks a chance and maybe you'll like them.

Since I don't know jack about most modern music, I'm gonna go old school here; every single one of the bands/singers I'm about to list has garnered me a response of "Who?" more times than I care to remember:

- The Brian Setzer Orchestra
- Dire Straits
- Mark Knopfler
- Harry Belafonte
- Eric Clapton
- MeatLoaf
- Bryan Adams
- Bob Seger
- Mandy Patinkin
- Carl Perkins
- Phil Collins
- Martin Page
- Michael Crawford
- Pearl Jam
- Pet Shop Boys
- Tom Jones
- Tony Bennett

I love all of them and it continually destroys me when nobody knows who I'm talking about.

Flobots. They're amazing. Some people know their song 'handlebars', but the song 'Stand Up' is so much better.

Opeth would be my top choice for this topic; they are still relatively unknown, and I consider their work to be genius, especially Still Life and Blackwater Park. Mikael Akerfeldt is, from my viewpoint, a great frontman: his compositions are brilliant, lyrics poetic and deep, and singing voice incredibly good, whether growling or singing normally. I could write volumes about Opeth, but I much of what the band is can only be conveyed by their music. Check them out, chances are there will be something in their catalogue that you will enjoy!

Here are two examples of their work:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FBS7ejV9qEk - Burden (Light song, clean vox, Watershed)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D0hRznmgLUo - The Moor (Heavy Song, mostly growled / some clean vox, Still Life) My Personal favorite Opeth song.

Stoner rock is amazing. Try bands such as Karma To Burn and Colour Haze. Nice to see Pelican mentioned on here. They are just getting better and better. Also a great up and coming band from leeds called Chickenhawk. They have some fantastic videos too.

Sir.

The instant I saw you mention Karma To Burn, I clicked your link without hesitation. Chickenhawk just sold an album.

Brad Sucks. Good music to listen to anytime.
Currently checking them out, Borderline sounds like a good song so far, going to look into him some more.

One greatly underappreciated band is:

"Kamelot"

Okay, so they ARE popular in eastern Europe, but almost no-one outside of Norway has heard of them, which is a shame, because they are a genuinely good symphonic metal band, and deserve far more recognition.
Then again, the entire metal genre is underappreciated thanks to the raft of 'scream music', which I am NOT a fan of!
Kamelot is a decent band.

And I hear you brother, Screamo is not a fucking genera, not should it be considered one. Its fucking hipster trash created to make a mockery of real metal. Whenever someone mentions screamo, just ignore it, theres no reason to fight with retards who can't understand what real metal is.

Prepare to have your mind blown:

In 1968 The Rolling Stones put on a show called "The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus" for TV. For some reason it went unreleased until the 90's (I think). The show isn't just the stones though. They only do about four songs. The show features everyone from Jethro Tull to The Who.

One of the best bands of the night though was a group by the name of "The Dirty Mac". This was a super group of truly epic proportions. It featured -

John Lennon - Vocals & Rhythm
Eric Clapton - Lead Guitar
Keith Richards - Bass (Normally plays lead guitar for the Rolling Stones)
Mitch Mitchel - Drums (Normally plays for Jimmi Hendrix)

They played only two songs, and these are the only two songs they ever played together. The first, and best, is Yer Blues [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gc5_QNFD5yk] off the Beatles White Album. The second song was Whole Lotta Yoko, which was cool until yoko Ono started (literally) shrieking into the microphone.

Yer Blues has an intro part to it (part of the video posted) which is kind of... strange, but you can always skip ahead. The song starts at about 1:08, and Eric Clapton absolutely rips it up once the song gets going. (Skip to 3:05 to see Clapton melting faces)

I wouldn't say unknown, as they have a cult fan base, but they never took off commercially but Acid Bath is a cool, if relatively obscure band.

Dear god, I swore that my quest to find someone else who likes Acid Bath would be in vain.

I can't decide if I should hug you for being you, or kill you for making me look bad.

I love Cassie Eats Cockroaches simply for the Clockwork Orange quote in there.

Obviously, these bands aren't unheard of. Perhaps a more appropriate thread title is in order.

Hell, I'd like to meet someone who doesn't know Streetlight Manifesto.

Regardless, I've gotten into Daft Punk recently. I'm sure a lot of people have heard of them, but they were news to me, so whatever.
Hi I'm someone who hasn't heard of Streetlight Manifesto until now.

Well i didnt want to go down the usual kyuss/clutch/Fu manchu route. They are all amazing bands but more well known than the hidden gems in there,. Since i'm back naming more I'll add Acid King. Also The Atomic Bitchwax. Possibly due to them having the greatest bass player i have ever seen. If you like stoner rock and want a good way of findig some fantastic bands I cannot recommend Last Fm enough. If you go to Lastfm.com and where it prompts you to type in a band name or type of music type Kyuss. There is then an option to play Kyuss radio. It will then play a kyuss song and then cycle through other artists kyuss fans have recommended. the results are awesome.

Sad, but true. Doesn't get rid of my impulse to knock them silly when they go on about Rihanna and Lady GaGa though -twitch-

Thank You.

I was thinking that I was going to be the only Kamelot fan on this thread and it's nice to know that people outside of Europe have heard of them.

Also on the techno side of things, Flesh Field and Juno Reactor are great choices, especially the work Juno Reactor did on the Matrix movie soundtracks.
