The goodness of a game, and the beauty of a person are in the eyes of the beeholder.Xanadu84 said:A feminine hygiene product could be great, but I definitely won't use any...Mcface said:The title is so fail...

A game can definitely be great, even if you don't like it. It's completely feasible that a game does a great job at doing something which doesn't perk your interest, and focuses less on things which matters the most to you. It would be a mark of sophistication to realize that something you don't personally enjoy does something which others might enjoy. I didn't really enjoy, "Hamlet", but I am more then capable of acknowledging its brilliance. If you can't name a game like this, hey, no problem, I never said you had to. This thread is totally optional in participation. But surely it is logically sound that an individual can take into consideration the tastes of another person, which happens to be different from yours, and perhaps even admit that your position is unusual, and you can't exactly explain it. There's no shame in that, its just taste in entertainment. I know I have never had a problem with admitting I am unusual.
If I was attracted to fat people, and I saw the most beautiful skinny person in the world, I could say without shame that I understand that this person is beautiful, and appreciate the effort that took, without that fact threatening my position of not being attracted to them.
Call of duty: Modern Warfare 2. The nukes are just bullshit, and there are guns that just completely break the game. The whole game (apart from single player is bullshit).Xanadu84 said:Good faith effort to be Search Bar approved.
Ive noticed that people naturally express there bias. If they don't like a game, it's always a bad game, if they do, then either it's a big seller or under-appreciated. So I'd like to present a little subversion, to get people to think about critically analyzing games instead of just stating there personal preference: What games do you recognize are great, but just don't enjoy? Have you ever seen a game that you can list nothing but good things about, but you just...can't enjoy yourself?
Personally, I never really enjoyed Street Fighter 4. Wonderful game, great art style, impressive method of combining all the strengths of 2D and 3D graphics, solid, balanced and interesting game play that's accessible to new player without minimizing the skill of experienced player...and every time I played I felt like I was just pressing a button until the other guy fell down. It just never clicked for me, even though I traditionally like many varieties of fighting games.
Also, I never liked Metroid. And frankly, that one I REALLY can't explain. I recognize it as great intellectually, but for some reason, the rest of my brain doesn't.
Or it could be to do with the fact that it's just system shock II copypasted, but without any penalty for death or fear of running out of specifically needed ammo?Guitarmasterx7 said:Most people here didn't actually READ the thread >_>
On topic: Bioshock. I recall enjoying it when I was actually playing it, but looking back on it I can't help but feel like it sucked. Though that's probably largely due to the whole ending where your character... changes, that kind of "fuck you"'d the whole concept and left it on that note. Not the slightest bit exited for the second one.
There's a second Brawl? I though it was the one of the N64, Melee and brawl.enzilewulf said:Super smash bros brawl 1 and 2, Okay befor you say o you are such a poser I hated it befor I ever saw Ben Yahtzee.

That now what i'm asking. I'm looking for games which you genuinely believe are great. If someone asked, you would tell them that this game is an excellent, top notch, well made, awesome game, but which, by some fluke, you just can't enjoy yourself whikle playing. I'm curious if people can put there personal tastes behind them, and try to appraise a game through a more objective set of criteria.
I cannot play a Valve game. Any of them. Sure, the Source engine is deemed as good, and everyone is entitled to their opinions, but I cannot see it this way. Yes, I will admit that the Source engine has inspired a lot of games and many of them are hailed as some of the greatest of all time (Which I simply cannot agree with at all).
Here's the deal, you want me to pick a game that I hate but praise it as a revolutionary game that it top of the line. I cannot do this. It doesn't make sense to do this. Now, I can say that the premise of Little Big Planet is a wonderful idea. I cannot, however, say that Little Big Planet deserves praise as best game ever. I will never say that every game should copy its formula, because that would be idiotic. What you are asking me to do is against every fiber of what I believe. You want me to pick a game that I think is perfect, or near perfect, but despise utterly. If something is perfect in someone's mind, they cannot hate it. If they do, then it is not perfect.
You picked Street Fighter IV. But all you did was give a short review of it. You said that the game was very well made, but you didn't have fun playing it. Little Big Planet had pretty art, decent controls, and a unique idea, yet I hated playing it. It was not fun. So, I will say, don't play it. Simple as that.
Maybe I'm missing your point entirely, but, what I'm getting is that you want us to pick a game that we think is perfect but had no fun with. This cannot be done.
I don't think that would be a good thing in all honesty.thenoblitt said:I wish the world had more people like you in it.
