Yiazmat from FF12. He literally took several hours to beat. So if you messed up and died, you had to start from the begin :D
Didn't he have 50 million Hp?
That sounds like a rubbish boss fight to me. I would be seriously pissed off if I lost several hours of playtime like that.
Should I assume you don't like World of Warcraft?

That happens alot in that game. And not just with parties of 4. More like parties of 40.

Do the ones from Shadow Of The Collossus actually count? That game was just boss fight after boss fight ... but EPIC boss fights at that.

No, I do not. Good assumption.

None, boss fights are shit.

I'm surprised dev's didn't get rid of them 10 years ago.
Why do you think that exactly? I'm not disagreeing, just curious.
Well considering how much everything else advances in games (and how quickly), it seems odd that they can't come up with anything better than what is generally a variation on some sort of being with a huge health bar and lasers for balls (the cock being some form of cannon).

Especially as story telling is actually improving as well, something big and shooty isn't satisfying when it makes no sense.

Take the recent and excellent Arkham Asylum; a fantastic game taking on the uniqueness of Batman and the world, but then the boss fights were rubbish.

Do something DIFFERENT, I don't need to just hit something big to have a satisfactory end. For the final fight in Arkham, why didn't they have a simply but brutal hand to hand fight, mano-a-mano with the Joker?

That would have been so much more satisfying then what it was.

Mafia for example (yes, some of you may have noticed I use this game for a lot of examples) had a large shoot out for its finale. It was hard, but it fitted the story and when you got down to the villain it was a matter of practicing what you had been doing for most of the game; being careful when you took your shots and trying not to get hit. The 'boss' had the same amount of health as you, and when he ran out to surprise you, if you pumped him with one shot from a sawn-off he went down like a sack of shit.

That was satisfying.

Ghoat from Zelda: Majora's mask.
Are you kidding??? Ghoat was too bloody easy. I beat him by standing at the door and shooting him with an arrow every time he ran by.
You aren't doing it right!
The fun bit is Goron rolling after him!

Now that was the best part of Majora's Mask. I even still have my old NP magazine telg me how to beat him.

Johnny Bravo? Do you mean Neo? Seriously, he seemed to have gotten his script confused and thought he was in the Matrix.

Nooo, don't be silly. Boss battles are a great change of pace and really suit a lot of games. Its great to have that extra challenge just before you finish the level.

If for no other reason than the song.

Yes, that's a bass. Yes, it's that amazing. Yes, that is your jaw on the floor. You may want to pick it up now.

You all lose.

Conkers Bad Fur Day wins this one, anytime. The Great Mighty Poo defeats all enemies.
Except the hit detection was shit on the remake, but since we're talking BFD and not Live & Reloaded, I am obliged to agree.

OT: Hmmm... The Leviathan from Resistance 2.
