i liked the lizard swordsmen from the legend of zeld series

they're the only enemies i've known that will fight you one on one even though their's nothing holding the others back

Yiazmat from FF12. He literally took several hours to beat. So if you messed up and died, you had to start from the begin :D
Didn't he have 50 million Hp?
That sounds like a rubbish boss fight to me. I would be seriously pissed off if I lost several hours of playtime like that.
Exact same. Sounds like someone is seriously imbalanced. FF12? Isn't that recent? Like, when people are soft and cannot handle difficulty? (me)
Or was he a side-boss? Optional?

Code of Honor maybe?
well, they only follow the code of honor if you're targeting one of them, if you're not then both lizards will attack.

If I can get away with an MMO answer the opera event in wow was great. It is a random encounter of either Romulo and Juliana, The crone (wizard of oz), or the big bad wolf.

If that doesn't count then I will go with the Twin wizard fight at the end of the spirit temple in Ocarina of Time.

Maybe when you target one, the other knows you "Challenged him to a Duel!" and will back off until the duel is over.

Or Mysterio from the Spiderman 2 game. You'll know why if you played.
Best. Boss. Ever!
I loved the What If cheat when he got a goldfish bowl for a head.

My favourite? Probably...the big coral-coloured floaty snake beast at the start of Beyond Good and Evil

Ghoat from Zelda: Majora's mask.
Are you kidding??? Ghoat was too bloody easy. I beat him by standing at the door and shooting him with an arrow every time he ran by.
Goht. You didn't take the harder (slightly) and extremely fun option of rolling around the room dodging and spiking him up the backside? Fail to you, sir.

That's the boring way to beat him. You're supposed to roll into him while in spiky ball mode and beat him to death.

These have to be my top 5. I really wanted to say The Dahaka, but he is a final boss if you play Warrior Within properly.

That huge chimaera in Resistance 2, that you fight in the city. The one that grabs you and throws you right through a bridge.
