I've been playing since I was about eleven, so probably about 9 years, I play every possible style that I can, because I used to teach, quite often people would want to learn quite different stuff to the kind of thing that I'd usually play myself. I own 3 guitars at the moment, but have been through countless over the years, at the minute I have:

An Ibanez RG42BP - Neck through, floyd rose, a real shredders guitar, it get's the most play ;)

[EDIT] My ones the step up, with the sharkfin inlays

A Jackson DKMGT - string through, passive EMG pickups, I tend to use this one for drop tunings
http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/photo.php?id=1261

And an Ibanez classical because for the past two years I've been learning Bach and Francisco Tarrega :).
Very nice. I especially like the finish on the Jackson, it's a really nice colour. Pity i think their headstocks are foul.

I was thinking about necks the other day. Set-throughs are obviously better than bolt ons, so why bother with bolt ons at all? I know they're cheaper, but putting massive metal bolts straight through the neck of a beautiful guitar is an abomination.

Oldie thread but beats starting up a new one.

I mostly play acoustic, I have a Maton EM325c which is a beautiful fucking guitar. I altered the action a bit to bring the strings closer to the fretboard to help with harmonics.

In the way of electrics I have a hand-me-down Peavy Predator and a much abused Kay Les Paul that I quite literally found in a junkyard.

Reason I posted is that I'm looking to get back into some electric playing and... well my two electrics are not really up to it so I'm actually looking for a new guitar... kind of... when I get the money. I was thinking of getting a Fender Jaguar HH, basically because it looks like one cool damn guitar and from what I've read is pretty versatile. I was wondering if any of you Escapist Guitarists had opinions one way or the other or suggestions for a good versatile, and if I'm completely honest with you, cool-looking guitar.

This is an old thread, but still relevant I guess. I can't play guitar well, though I keep trying, 3 of my friends play brilliantly but I just can't get the hang of the damn things. Still not sure I even tune the thing right.

Ahh, I'm a sinner, lefty but play righty :(

I have 2 guitars. 1 is a strat copy I got from Argos that I love despite it looking and sounding horrible :p My other guitar, only recently fixed, is a Jackson Warrior :)

On this note, how do I get my Floyd rose strings to stay the same? It seems when I tune one all the other go out of tune!

Been playing for about 6 weeks. Yeah, by everyone elses standards, I suck big time, but for a beginner, I pick things up really quickly. Or so my teacher says.

I just got an Ibanez XPT 700. Beautiful guitar, and money well spent.

I like to play death/black metal. A lot of Dissection, The Black Dahlia Murder, some Arsis, a touch of Necrophagist (I'm not quite "there" yet).

I've got a simple bass: Fender Squire. Not going to wow anybody, but I've been told (Both before and after my purchase) that it's a good starter bass. Might get a newer, better one eventually (Like an acoustic...I'd love an acoustic bass).
I'm interested, which one and how much did you pay for it? Because if you get a really good one then they can be better than some of the more expensive basses.

Started off on the trombone, been playing that for nearly seven years. On-topic, I've been teaching myself bass for just over a year and a half, and I'm thinking about taking lessons, and I've been teaching myself guitar for nearly a year now. I have a Sumo bass (no-one else seems to have heard of it either), a Fender Precision Squire 5-string (my favourite), a Legacy Diamond (not too bad Gibson copy) and a custom Crafter Cruiser (previous owner put in humbuckers, which make it sound a hell of a lot better).

5 years here, self-taught. I used to play solely metal but I've developed my own technique and style, if I had to try and describe it I'd say...hmm.... Hendrix/Mike McCready/Jerry Cantrell/Larry Lalonde.

My beauty is a Schecter diamond series omen extreme with floyd rose trem http://media.photobucket.com/image/omen%20fr%20extreme/darkangelsavior/SchecterOmenFRExtremeBCH03.jpg (not mine but pretty much identical, cept for the finish which, while the same colour scheme, is a little wavier, i dunno how to describe it xD) Fucking LOVE this guitar. Surprisingly amazing for the price (bout $500 aus) and plays awesomely.
My first guitar was a cherry red fender squier strat. Play's great despite being outclassed by the schecter.
For gear I use an 100W marshall MG amp, effects are : behringer ultra metal pedal, cheap but has a great tone, behringer delay pedal which i cant even be bothered plugging in anymore as the battery gets drained really really fast and I don't have an adapter for it so I just use the amp's delay effect :p, and a Dunlop GCB-95 crybaby wah which is lots of fun

I play bass and guitar, grade 8 at both. I try not to limit myself on what I'll listen to and learn, there's some great stuff out there besides metal (although metal is wicked!). For instance, my bass teacher suggested I lesten to some ska music a few years ago for some interesting basslines and I've never stopped listening to it since.

Go musical diversity!

I'm thinking of starting to learn electric as guitars have peaked my interest over the last few months (Thanks Chuck Schuldiner, K.K. Downing, Yngwie and Mustaine). May I have recommendations of what to get as starter gear.(amps, brand, etc.)

8 years of guitar playing, own a Schecter Hellraiser FR, lovely guitar. The Floyd Rose recently broke though, and haven't had time to fix it lately... mainly because even though guitar is my main instrument, I currenctly play bass in a death metal band, and haven't really played that much guitar lately.

I am left handed, but was recommended to play right handed as it would be easier for buying guitars and stuff.
Yea me too, now I cant imagine playing left handed it just seems so... awkward, even though I do everything else left handed.

Been playing for about 10 years, but only been enjoying it for the last 2-3 since I can actually play what I want and dont take lessons anymore.

Well I have an Ibanez SAS36FM in sunburst red
Beauty to play, light, versatile and brilliant for shredding

A Roland cube
[imagehttp://www.ostfoldmusikk.no/catalog/images/Roland%20cube-15.jpg[[/IMG]
Perfect for just playing at home and has so much control over it

Finally I have my Yamaha APX500
Which has a lovely rich tone and for £200 it was a steal

I want a Jackson V King though, neck is so smooth it's unreal
I have been playing for 5 years now but I'm already at grade 8, doing it this summer and I have been teaching friends but if I pass I can legally do it professionally

Yeah I play bass. I'm studying Popular Music, I play in a dance band and have an audition for a metal band next week.

My gear

Fender Jazz 24 V with R.Coco strings tuned E-A-D-G-C and Mono M80 electric bass case and a Mono 'duraweave' short strap. There is about $2500 in that picture...

Its a fantastic bass, the fact that its active means that it can play so many differnt styles. I'm digging the C string, I've got into solo stuff and chordal stuff more and more so it suits it.

The case is a beast, its harder than some hard cases I've seen. Its got a so many pockets and compartments, I an fit 3 leads, a mic, a pedal, pens, books, picks, loose change and any after gig supplies a sexy bass player needs.. What?

Ashdown MAG300 head + MAG410 cab

300 watts, but I haven't played it yet because I don't have the right cable. Its sitting in my office, laughing at me =(

EDIT: I've been getting lessons since I started and I think its great. Don't get me wrong, different things work for different people. I've always found it great to have someone pushing me along. Right now in my lessons I am getting taught by one of the (if not the) best bassists in New Zealand. Always good to know =D

I do play guitar. I would say that I collect obscure guitars. I have 2 B.C. Rich guitars, one with body art that's pretty sweet, a Fender acoustic guitar with an electric head, and a Fender rip-off with an acoustic head. Most recently, though, I got a semi-hollowbody guitar from my grandpa. The obscure part about that one is that it's Toyota brand.
