I play a mean air guitar...

all kidding aside, I'm currently learning how to play the bass guitar. although I don't remember what kind of guitar I'm learning on; I don't own it. I do know that it's brown, though. my dad owned an acoustic guitar once, but gave it to my cousin when he tried to start his own band.

Been playing Bass for about 3 years, but my brother has been giving me on and off lessons on the guitar. Mainly I play punk rock (because it's fun and I'm not good enough for metal) but I'm slowly making progress.

Also, I'm taking a woodworking class at my school where we spend the whole semester making a guitar.

I know. My school is awesome.
Dude, Bass rules and is an underrated instrument.
Punk rock rules, beside it sounds better is the lead singer is the bassist, its slightly easier to play which allows for more focus of vocals/guitars. unless you wanna do some of that cliff burton tom foolery that is.
Oh it seems you misunderstood me. I only play punk on the six-string electric guitar. On bass I can rock the shit out of that thing on everything from slap-and-pop funk to super shreddy speed metal. Guess I should have made that clearer.

I'm a bass player and have been for the past 10 years. I play an Alembic Anniversary, a Status Series 1 and a Rickenbacker 4003, depending on my whims or the genre in need to play. I use a small, lightweight Mark Bass amp for small venues and a large Gallien Krueger stack for bigger places.

I play some guitar too, but only fingerstyle. Tried playing with a pick numerous times, never got the hang of it. I've got a Hamer Studio Custom and a small 15 watt Fender tube amp. It sounds pretty good and I only play guitar at home so I don't need anything bigger.

I play a tad, if not just to jam with my guitarist. Metal, too. Mainly, SOAD tunes.

I play Bass! No formal lessons, mostly by ear. Picked it up a year ago to stave off boredom when I was living up north. I'm slowly learning to play 'properly', and I really enjoy it.

I've got a simple bass: Fender Squire. Not going to wow anybody, but I've been told (Both before and after my purchase) that it's a good starter bass. Might get a newer, better one eventually (Like an acoustic...I'd love an acoustic bass).
My first bass was a Squier as well. Had it for about 3 and a half years and had no problems with it.

EDIT: Bass I play now:
I've been playing bass for 5(ish) years and I've got the hang of the whole learning by ear thing. (Started saving up for the one I want to buy next:)
Just need to decide on the colour..

I play a B.C. Rich Warlock, custom painted orange and white to look like a skull, I've been playing for about a year and half and play mostly shred/hard rock things like Eruption. I am currently working on "Guitars Suck" if anyone knows a decent tab of it I would be SO grateful.

I use the April 2003 edition of the B.C. Rich Body Art series called Skull Pile.

Here's the link to the picture and the details of it.

Anyway, I play bass as well, presently on an Epiphone Thunderbird

Absolutely beautiful instrument.
How do you handle the weight of the headstock, the neck dive, the strap popping off, the lack up upper fret access and the horrible, horrible tone?

Yeah.. I'm not big on the 'ol T-Bird. Not the eppiphone one at least. The Gibson one gets rid of some of those problems (some) but for $3000 you could get so much more.

Ibanez is quite literally perfect.
*Forces OT to high five*

I own and Ibanez too, and I hope to be able to get an Iceman and change the pickups around to make it a soloist guitar. I like me the JEM pickup disposition. It's just great sounding. And yes, I play metal too. So once again, high five.

Oh and I believe we are on fire

Holy shit, this thing's up again?! The last post was in January, someone has some glorious necro skills.

I do love my Ibanez, although i've pretty much stopped playing guitar now. It's stopped being fun, it's more like a chore than a hobby. I might pick it up again further down the line, but for now i'll just gaze at my beautiful, beautiful Ibanez.

Yeah been playing for about 3 years now.
I can play most things...except for sweeping.
MY one weakness :(
well...i have several :p
Fender man-current guitar is a white strat, even the neck is white, i love it XD
started with acoustic songs, but moved on to metal and punk rock.
Sweeping's a tricky one. Obviously, you need to follow the old rule of practice makes perfect, but it takes longer with this style. The co-ordination and timing needs to be spot on, it gave me a lot of trouble when i learnt it. Incredibly rewarding though.

If you haven't got anything like this already, i strongly advise you pick up this DVD. It's incredibly helpful for introducing and mastering sweeping, plus it introduced me to Andy James, who is absolutely incredible.

I play, I have a Les Paul Studio, a Fender Squire, an a couple of acoustics.

I play metal, rock and blues. And lately, I've been working on chord forms and bluesy metal. Similiar to Thin Lizzy, Led Zeppelin, and W.A.S.P. but nowhere near as good. I've played for about a year and a half.

Also, I've got several hundred dollars saved up and am thinking about a new guitar. Would you people be so kind as to make recommendations. At the moment, I've been thinking about a Master Series Warlock, or a Strat of some kind. But I'm open to other ideas if anybody has them.

You cannot go wrong with an Ibanez. The SZ series is fantastic, i've posted a link in the OP of my SZ320. They're shorter scale (can't remember what though), 22 frets. Quite havy guitars, thicker body and neck than the usual Ibanez builds, nice and chunky, which is great for me. The Mahogany body and string-through-body system give it a really warm tone and absolutely amazing resonance, to the point that it actually sounds decent played acoustically. Pretty good stock pick-ups as well, and as usual with Ibanez it' great value for money.

I'll look into those as well. Im also a fan of thick body guitars, after all, I do own a Les Paul. I probably should have specified that it was a Gibson.

And Ibanez are mostly shred guitars with high playability am I right?
