I've taught myself guitar on and off for about five years now. I play acoustic, so chords mainly. I love playing blues bottle jazz, it's great fun.

I decided about a week ago that I'm going to learn how to play guitar. I do not play any instruments so I felt like I needed to learn something. I do not have a guitar, but I have a couple of friends in a band, and I'm going to see if they want to sell me one of their old ones.

I've played guitar for roughly four years and bass for around two or three. I've been in so many bands that it's like changing socks for me.

I mostly play classic rock or metal, but I branch out to thrash, noise, nu metal, country, disco, punk and all kinds of weird shit. People look at me strange when I tell them that my influences are Mr. Bungle, Buckethead, Electric Six, KMFDM, and MFKR-era Slipknot.

Fun story: I used to work at a warehouse, where I had a boss that played metal guitar for years. After moving half the warehouse across town to start a new location, he got the bright idea to turn a few empty offices into a recording studio, using about three years worth of paperwork as insulation. He let me use it after work a few times, which was awesome.

I've been playing guitar for... four or five years... Something like that. Lot of metal, but I'm trying to branch out, so I've been playing a lot of rock, and some acoustic stuff lately.

Currently have:
Ibanez ICx120 (AMAZING guitar) (C Standard / Drop Bb)
Japanese Les Paul clone (antique and very sweet) (E Standard/Drop D)
Ibanez V70 Dreadnought (E Standard/Drop D)
Framus Classical Acoustic.

On the first three, I refuse to use ANYTHING but D'Addario strings. I almost never touch the Framus, so... Eh. I play through a Line 6 Spider III 150, have never been in a band, but I play with friends on occasion.

I'm self-teaching acoustic.
It's kinda been hard, what with playing a crappy broken guitar designed for ten-year-olds.
I don't know much about guitars and whatnot. But then, as long as it makes a sound, I don't really see how it matters.
Yeah. I'm a philistine. Go me.

I've played bass for 7 years and guitar for 5. I took bass lessons for the first year, but picked up guitar using the music theory and jazz I took in high school. I try to keep at least some versatility in my playing, but I've been pretty into hard rock and metal recently.

Guitar:
ESP/LTD Viper 400(EMG 81+85, D Standard/Drop C), Schecter C1(Duncan JB+59), LTD MH301 (Duncan Custom Custom+Pearly Gates), Korean Strat (Duncan Alnico II Pros, Open G)
->
Digitech Bad Monkey, EHX Small Stone, EHX Q-Tron
->
Boogie Stiletto+2x12 V30s, Line 6 Echo Park in the loop

Bass:
Warwick Corvette 4, Fretless
->
EHX Big Muff
->
SWR Workingman's 4004+GK 4x10

My cabinet is full of the pint glasses they give away for returning the string packets...

I have an Ibanez Gio electric guitar, and a Brownsville accoustic (I forget what exact kind but they stopped making them 3 years ago or so). I use a Spider II amp, and I play mostly music that I have made up. I had about 5 lessons, and then I realised that I could learn on my own, very quickly at that. Also I learned my teacher was a stupid alcoholic who would half the time not show up for lessons....

Half the lessons, I would come in an be like "Hey look what I learned in 10 minutes!" and He'd say "That's what I was going to teach you in an hour!" I'm just guessing that my skills at studying on my own are better than my ability to absorb a teacher's lesson.

I've been playing for about 6 years. Right now I use my Gibson Explorer. I mainly play some genres of metal and blues.

I've been playing guitar for 2 years, I an play better than most guitarists I know. I own a Epiphone Les Paul Standard, and I'm planning on getting a new one (maybe a Ibanez or Schecter). I play metal for the most part, but I eventually play some rock and country.

Been playing Bass for about 3 years, but my brother has been giving me on and off lessons on the guitar. Mainly I play punk rock (because it's fun and I'm not good enough for metal) but I'm slowly making progress.

Also, I'm taking a woodworking class at my school where we spend the whole semester making a guitar.

I know. My school is awesome.

I play Bass! No formal lessons, mostly by ear. Picked it up a year ago to stave off boredom when I was living up north. I'm slowly learning to play 'properly', and I really enjoy it.

I've got a simple bass: Fender Squire. Not going to wow anybody, but I've been told (Both before and after my purchase) that it's a good starter bass. Might get a newer, better one eventually (Like an acoustic...I'd love an acoustic bass).
You don't have any pictures, do you?

Anyway, I play bass as well, presently on an Epiphone Thunderbird

Absolutely beautiful instrument.

I play bass guitar and can play pretty well. I can play a regular six string acoustic as well, but I moved on as I like bass better and it is easier. Currently learning Hendrix and Beatles songs, and I'm at least trying to play I Saw Her Standing There and singin at the same time. That's my baby in my avatar and I love her so.
Yeah you can't really see how it looks I'll get a pick when I'm arsed.

I've tried playing guitar, but I simply don't have the patience to do it. The most serious practice I did was trying to learn how to play the song playing in level e1m1 from the first Doom game. Went okay until I reached the parts of the song where I had to do some really fast picking, and I sort of gave up after that. Acoustic art just isn't my field I guess...

I got a Yamaha Pacifica guitar (not too fancy, but great for me), and a Fender Squire Bass (again, not fancy). They're both really good, in my opinion, and do the job well.

I play guitar and no lessons. Only the interwebz. I've played for about three months, can't read music, and know only one scale (D Major), but I'm trying to learn the Iron Man solo anyway. Also, I have a Epiphone Les Paul Special II, which is good and cheap. I'm looking into either getting an Epiphone SG or Squier Telecaster next.

I mainly know Green Day at this point. They're really easy to learn and I like them, so it works. I'm trying to work in some metal now though.
